Room 108. What a coincidence. Everto sighed. He'd been here before, room 108 was the room he'd had then too. He wondered vaguely who he would be sharing with this time. Chances were his old roommate would have changed dorms, and just when he was starting to like the kid. Sort of. Back then, it had been beyond Everto's capability to like anyone, but he'd changed since then. Sicne then he'd found out how he came to be, who his family was, and where they were. He hadn't visited them though, he was not ready for that. And even though he had been told how he came to be, he still didn't have any memories of it. Finding the door to his old room, his new room, unlocked, he lightly pushed it open. It still creaked. For some reason, it had only ever creaked when he'd touched it: never when his roommate or any of his roommate's friends. If, during his brief stay, he'd had time to ever call somebody to fix it no doubt they would have found nothing wring with the door. It just creaked for Everto.
Stepping softly into the room, his black cloth backpack slung over one shoulder, Everto saw his new roommate in his old room immediately. The guy was just standing their lounge. He knew that this room was one of the many that could house up to four boys, five if someone slept on the couch. Nodding briefly at the kid, not yet speaking, he spotted the other guy almost immediately. Dropping his bag into the armchair that sat next to the lounge in their, well, their lounge, he headed for where his other new "roomie" was. Might as well talk to the guy. After all, he was trying to turn over a new leaf and change. Change. He'd already changed so much from the last time he was here, that he would even consider talking to the boy he would have to share as little time as possible with. As for unpacking, well, he didn't have many possessions last time he came and he had even less now, having been forced to sell many things for food or information. That last beggar ripped me off, he remembered, thinking of how much the man had charged him for so little information. As for why he didn't simply threaten the man, well, that man had been powerful as well, though in a much different manner. Come to think of it, he hadn't been able to threaten very many of his informants at all.
Knocking softly on the door that stood open to the bedroom, Everto leant on the doorframe. If only Ella could see me now... Ella was the first person he had failed to threaten, a halfcat. She had turned out to be a dangerous woman, and Everto had spent three weeks recovering from his encounter with her. He still had scars up his right arm from that. He smiled at the memory. Ella had declared him useless, unable to ever get along with human beings. She had then hissed at him and stalked off, ginger tail held high. Absentmindedly brushing at invisible dirt on his trademark black jumper and pants, he waited for the boy to realise that he was right behind him. Wonder if anyone I know is still here... Though he had not made any real friends last time at the Academy, Everto had met a few people. Marine, her sister, and someone else who he couldn't quite remember. Oh yes, he recalled that incident clearly. He had saved some kid then. He didn't know why, but he had dragged the boy out of the burning common room. Turning his attention back to the boy before him, Everto decided he might as well try to begin a conversation.
He addressed the room, or, rather, the two boys who were in it with him. Keeping his voice calm, his face blank, he spoke softly. "Everto Savio. You?" It wasn't much, but it was enough. Hopefully. Heck, it should be enough. Clearly he was stating his own name as a gesture of goodwill and asking the others' names in return. It was obvious, wasn't it? Twisting side-on so that he no longer had his back to the kid in the lounge, Everto remained leaning on the doorframe. Glancing around, he guessed that the scorchmarks he had made last time had been either cleaned off or painted over. Then again, he had only scorched the ceiling of one of the bedrooms, the one thathad been his. Absentmindedly crossing the lounge to the back right bedroom, he picked up his bag along the way and kicked open the door. Seeing the faded scorchmarks gave him hope. Maybe not everything has changed... Throwing his bag onto the ed, Everto returned to the side where the other boys were.
