Life was good, better than it'd been for a while. The young mage had readied some of his nicer clothes, it was meant to be a romantic evening after all. He'd done his best to fix his hair, though it's fluffy nature made it difficult to tame. Once satisfied he'd make his way to Aswan's doorm.

He'd knock, waiting patiently for his girlfriend to answer. When the door opened he'd smile, "hello darling." In a flash he'd produce a rose for her, one he'd kept safe from the winter air. "You look beautiful," though she always looked lovely to him.

"Are you ready?" he'd ask, no rush in his voice, he'd planned the evening especially for her but he didn't wish to rush her.

Truth be told, Aswan never could remember when most of the festivals were on the island, even though she'd mapped them out on her calendar months before. She'd know countless factoids about the holiday itself, but when asked for the date.. that was usually where her near-perfect memorization often flopped. For some it was names - for her it was dates. The only one she'd remembered as happening squarely in the middle of February was the famous Valentine's Day. Maybe that's why she vaguely expected the knock on her dorm door. She had a feeling it was from Roland - after all, he was the only one, or one of the only ones, who knew her dorm and would knock.

Getting up from her daily planning of the notes she'd prepared on her myriad of classes, she swung the door open.

"Hello darling."

Oh, that's too cute, was her first thought.

"You look beautiful." Her, with her messy hair tied up like always, in a giant sweater. Her? Beautiful? It was only then that she took him in fully and realized he'd dressed up for a romantic evening. Rose and all. Reddening from both the flattery of Roland's flirting and at the embarrassment of not being ready for such an event, she smiled and opened the door fully to let him in. She was lucky, she thought, so lucky to have a boyfriend like him.

"My apologies, Roland. I'm not q-quite ready yet.. b-but I will be shortly! Make yourself at homein the meantime!" Jeez, it seriously embarrassed her that she'd forgotten!

"No problem love," he'd say with a chuckle, he found her scatterbrained ways endearing and adorable. He'd step inside, removing his jacket and setting it aside. "There's no rush," he'd say with a chuckle, "we have all evening."

He'd glance around, he'd come here often, knew she often had papers scattered about from the various things she works on. "How are the new classes?" he'd ask curiously, stepping over to some papers and glancing over them. "College sounds enjoyable?" he was intelligent, but he was more magical leaning than anything else.

The young mage was excited for tonight, he enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend. "It's still chilly out, snow finally stopped though."

"We have all evening."

Her boyfriend, wading through the piles and piles of slightly scattered papers, glanced around. She knew he was accustomed to such a mess, but she couldn't help but feel embarrassed anyway. She had to change out of this messy outfit... maybe she had something in the closet she could change into? Ugh, when did she get so vain? Maybe it was when she started to care so much about what her boyfriend - the one who she was going to spend all evening with, the thought of which brought a smile to her face - thought of her. No problem... love!

"College is wonderful," Aswan called out as she headed down the hall to her room. "They have all sorts of research on the nature of magic from most standpoints - philosophical, scientific... even artistic. It's fascinating how artistic history marries the two, simply fascinating!" Aha! There it was: a little black dress hanging on the edge there, unworn and unwrinkled. Aswan faintly remembered picking it up somewhere, though the reason escaped her at the moment. Either way, it was a lovely dress.

"Oh! I heard the snow may have died down a fair bit - " here her voice muffed even more through the door as she put on the dress - "but I'll miss it all the same. I really do love snowfall."

The mage wpuchuckle as his girlfriend spoke excitedly, he was proud of her. "I'm happy you're enjoying it," he'd hum in thought, "another year and I'll be joining you in college." He'd adapted well to the modern world, technology and culture was fascinating.

"Yes, they finally found the source of the snow," he'd say, continuing to look around, "strange incident with some gods." He'd heard various rumors regarding what had happened, he was happy they'd avoided the whole matter.

Finally he'd find a small vase, filling it with water he'd place a second rose in it, setting it on the table as a small surprise for her.

"Exciting," she commented from behind the door as she struggled to get the dress on right. "I do hope they manage to get that fixed or cleared up, or something of that ilk. Although I do imagine there would be a bit of research to do on the subject to discover that very thing."
Finally, the dress was on - she had to admit, it did look nice. Pulling her brown hair out of its bun and braiding a section of it, she took one last look at herself. Oh.. she did look nice. Hopefully it would be stunning enough for Roland - himself being stunning.

Hearing the tap in the kitchen running brought a smil to her lips. He may have gotten thirsty waiting for her - but then she was taking up more time than she anticipated. It didn't matter - he was an esteemed and essential guest in her home... er, her dorm.

"I'm done," she called out from the hallway, walking down to the kitchen.

He'd turn to see her emerge, "wow..you look amazing darling." The mage would step over to her, offering his hand, he knew she had to adjust to the sensation of touching a living person. "That dress suits you, you are beautiful," he loved pretty much everything about her, including her looks.

"Shall we go?" he'd ask, stepping a bit closer, "would you like to walk? I can call a taxi for us." If she eventually took his hand he'd give it a gentle squeeze, she was quite a bit shorter than him though.

The mage would flash a smile, "I believe you'll be nicely surprised by tonight." Once they'd decided on things he'd lead her out of her dorm and out of the school, smiling calmly as they went.

It always impressed her, without fail, that Roland was so considerate. Instead of just holding her hand, he had only offered his; knowing that she would have the time to settle into the slightly nauseating feeling of touching a living being, before it gave way to the much more welcome tingle in her fingers. Squeezing her free hand, she took his hand and blushed. Partly at his words, yes, but also partly because she was pushing back that wave of nausea.

It helped a little that Roland squeezed the hand he was holding, because the pressure settled his hand into hers and alleiviated some of that prior queasiness. It felt like her hand was falling asleep.

"Actually, if it's alright, can we walk? It would save money for you, and the snow outside is pretty, anyhow." Giving him a shy smile, she stepped into her boots and pulled her jacket around her.

"I believe you'll be nicely surprised by tonight."

Wonderful - now her blush deepened and she turned away to at least attempt to hide it. In what way did he mean that...?

With a smile he'd start to lead her away from the school, hand in hand with the girl he loved. "Walking it is," he'd nod, "the snow is nice looking now. Not a hinderdnce anymore, so I hope what's left lasts a while longer."

He'd chuckle, "you're blush is lovely darling," he'd say, gently teasing, though he did genuinely think it looked beautiful. "I am quite lucky to be accompanied by you," he'd give her hand a gentle squeeze as they continued their walk.

"Ah but it seems I've forgotten to give you one of your flowers," he'd sat as they neared the restaurant. "Here," pulling a box from his pocket, he'd open it, revealing the blossom of a flower made completely from chocolate. "A little dessert before dinner?"

"Oh, please." She tried to cover her face with her hands, but it showed through all the same. If she were being quite honest, she was lucky to be with him, not the other way around. Generous, kind to a fault, romantic... She never would have guessed before.

Upon spotting the exquisite chocolate flower - something that obviously either was extremely expensive or a work of art that must have taken hours to do - her blush only deepened. It shouldn't have been possible, but of course, it was so. "Ahhh, you couldn't have! It's gorgeous."
