It was so cold out here.
The tiny Fae girl clung to the lower branches of the tree, lookin out over the scene. She could spot a few other signs of flora (the tree being one, but there were a few other assorted plants that made her at least a little more comfortable) on the borders of the area she was in.
Of course, she was looking for her gift exchange partner. There had been some push from her aunt to enter a gift exchange, probably to meet a new friend. At least, she hoped they would be a friend - it terrified her to think of being paired with a really mean human in an orange vest.
Hanging from the branch she was on, almost like an ornament, she'd hooked her gift to the other person on her paperclipped rope, and now it swung lightly back and forth. It would have made a nice little swing for her, or a footswing. But that wasn't a swing - no, the package read clearly: Firecrackers.
Olive had read something on firecrackers. They exploded when they were lit, and so far she was convinced that if she took a wrong move, they would explode in her face. That would hurt.
She hoped her trade partner would come soon.

@Kait

Riley came only a couple of minutes late. Her gift was handmade: a piece of wood cut in the shape of a star, painted half red and half black. There was a hole in it and some string she put through the hole - the idea was that it could make a decent tree ornament. It was contained in a mess of crumpled red wrapping paper and tape.

She had read on the internet that the red-and-black star was a symbol for something called "anarcho-communism." She'd read the first paragraph about anarcho-communism on wikipedia and decided she was an anarcho-communist now, and that this wooden star ornament would make a great gift.

Even though she was late, she didn't see her partner under the tree where they were supposed to meet. So, with a shrug, she sat down at the foot of the tree with the gift in her lap. The girl stuck each of her hands in the other sleeve of her school uniform jacket to protect herself better from the cold.

She hoped her trade partner would show up soon. Hopefully it wasn't one of the Scouts.

The tiny Fae looked hesitantly over the sea of faces below her, trying to decide which one could be the person she was supposed to give the firecrackers to. Maybe it was that frantic girl with the cat eras over there? Or maybe it was that other one, the one with the purple hat. Or maybe...
Maybe it wasn't any of them. They were too far away from her. Maybe she needed to look up close.
Carefully, so as not to slip on one of the branches (or her hair), she hopped down from her branch and looked around again. Who looked like a "Riley" here? But then again, what did Rileys look like? Maybe if she called out, a Riley would reply.
So, looking out and just a little bit lower on the tree now, she yelled out as loud as she could.
"Riley!? Riley... Riley!?"
Hopefully she didn't look too much like an ornament to be overlooked.

She heard the tiny voice calling from the other side of the tree. She scrambeled to her feet, holding her poorly-wrapped star between sleeve-covered hands. "I'm Riley!" Peeking around the tree, she finally spotted the tiny fae that had been shouting her name.

"...Olive?"

Riley was expecting someone a lot bigger. She looked at Olive, then she looked at how large her gift was. Hopefully this wouldn't be a problem. Maybe Olive could use magic or something.

When she noticed the package Olive was holding, her face lit up. "Wicked! Those are for me?"

"Rile - "
The tiny fae cut herself off as she took in the person who had replied to her calls. So this was a Riley. Her first instinct was to cower and observe from the pine tree, but she didn't do that. That would be unspeakably rude. Instead, she cautiously peered out and nodded. "I am Olive," she affirmed, taking a few little steps toward Riley (as far as the branch went that could support her) and pointed tot he gift above her. "Yeah! These are for you!" She tried her best to sound chipper. Was it working, she wondered? Hopefully so.
Another glance at Riley's sleeve-covered hands revealed the rather large gift (well, to Olive it was pretty large) that she'd brought. The gift looked to be whittled out of wood, handmade. Olive smiled. Such pretty colors! Though it wasn't green, it was a nice shade of red that she'd seen on many berries both back home and here.
"It looks beautiful," Olive told her trade partner, pointing at the star.
