Chill, laid back. Relaxed body language with many smiles and laughter. Likes to joke around with anyone and everyone, and doesn’t mind throwing himself under a bus for laughs. Almost unbreakable (public) confidence, and likes to build others up as well. A bit flippant and unapologetic at times, but tends to roll with most verbal punches. Friendly as hell, a true extrovert.

Enjoys helping others, physically and emotionally, and doesn’t mind listening. Non-judgemental. Selfless, and would give his life to protect his loved ones. Loves cute animals and small children. Would make a damn good father, if he cleaned himself up.

Infamous, shameless flirt. Fond of romantic gestures. Loves dating, complimenting, giving and recieving attention, sex, and pleasant physical contact with others. Dates casually and doesn’t like to commit (is a bit afraid of intimacy), but might not be able to help himself with the right person.

Holds even his closest friends at an arm’ s length. Loves to hang out, cuddle, talk, help others, but rarely lets anyone in himself. Doesn’t really hide his struggles — he literally wears his pain on his skin — but has no idea what he’d do if someone were to offer help, and definitely isn’t about to ask. Trustworthy, but scared to be vulnerable and intimate with anyone. Acts carefree and “lone wolfish” to mask this fear, and says he doesn’t need friends but likes to have them.

Emotionally-driven and impulsive. Though usually lax, has occasional, almost volatile exceptions in the form of intense emotion. Not easily annoyed, but very short temper when someone manages it. If genuinely angry, can quickly become loud, vulgar, and even violent. Strong emotions, both positive and negative, come in big, hot bursts that cloud his logic and reason.

Never hurts others intentionally, unless in a very bad state of mind… but is very self-destructive. Drug use, alcohol, plain self-mutilation… Addicted to cigarettes and showing signs of early alcoholism. Insomnia, some symptoms of bipolar depression (undiagnosed). Most likely has some form of PTSD, but hidden well and with few triggers. Buried but intense self-hatred. Misses parents in a violent, angry way, and has mixed feelings about his uncle’s death. Never wishes to murder again, and is somewhat haunted by the memories. Reacts harshly when he finds out he’s being taken advantage of, and can be pretty jagged when the situation calls. Reckless with his own safety.

Cute, soft, and/or small things. Artist — paint, charcoal, and fire. Rolls his own cigarettes... and fireworks. Vibrant colors, heat-of-the-moment expressions. Average singer, kinda bad dancer. Skilled with streetfighting, specifically close combat without Agni.

Agni is an ancient ring made of a dark black metal, the width of the band about as wide as a finger. The appearance of the metal is softer than it is shiny. When Riley is not using his powers, Agni maintains no notable markings, aside from a faint dark-ash colored design. When “awake”, the design shifts to a dark yellow-orange-red gradient, grows longer, and begins to shift, leaving Agni looking as though it is made of magma. In any state, the ring is always somewhat warm to the touch, but it grows hot enough to burn others when Riley is using his powers. Only Riley is immune to the heat of the ring (unless a character is otherwise immune via powers, etc).

Agni grants Riley powers related to explosions. Most often, this draws parallels towards fireworks and their dynamics, but it may refer to any sort of explosion - physical, mental/emotional, etc. Subpowers must usually be relied on for clarification.

Agni is indestructible by normal means, but can be locked/tampered with/destroyed via powerful magic. The ring only responds to its current master, Riley. This ownership can be transferred by murder (Agni goes to the killer), natural death (first person who directly touches Agni), or willing transfer. If a non-master tries to use Agni, the ring will become moody, resulting in anything from high temperatures to major explosions.

Riley does not have access to his powers if his ring is removed. He is unable to lose the ring; Riley can sense general area of the ring from any location. If not found, Agni will teleport back to Riley within 24hr if lost or stolen. The ring morphs to fit the size of the finger of it's master (i.e. one size fits all).


Subpower One: Combustion
Like his ring, “Combustion” is really a dual talent. It can refer to setting flammable objects on fire, within a certain range, or exploding combustible matter otherwise inaccessible should he have been using, say, pyromancy. An example of the latter statement can be seen in a metal barrel of oil. With pyromancy, the oil could not be destroyed, but combustion can bypass the metal frame and explode the oil from within. The range of this power is about 50ft (about 15 m) in all directions, with a larger distance, thicker shell (in reference to the metal barrel) or higher quantity requiring more effort on Riley’s part. Overuse of this power (>1hr of semi-constant use) can leave him exhausted and, in more extreme circumstances, incapacitated for a proportionate amount of time.


Subpower Two: Combustible Materials Creation
Riley is able to create his own combustible materials - such as gunpowder, etc. However, he cannot create, say, liquid petroleum or flammable gas. Generally speaking, the materials he is able to create should be somehow related to fireworks (as well as matches, paper, kindling, <10lbs firewood per 24hr, charcoal, etc), to give an idea of what exactly is in his range to create, as many materials are flammable.

Though able to create his own fireworks, he cannot create them pre-made, and must use his created materials to finish the project manually. The range is about 20ft (6m) in all directions. Once material is created, it is permanent.

The quantities produced depend on the complexity of the materials at hand and their densities. Complex materials (such as firework chemicals) take more effort and concentration than simple materials (uncolored paper). I.e. Riley could produce multiple small bins full of firework wrapping paper within a 24 hour period before he gives in from fatigue, while a gallon of firework chemicals in one go could leave him incapacitated for several hours - assuming he is able to complete the quantity at all.

Simple materials/lower quantities can be completed in only a minute or two. However, very complex materials, or large amounts, could require up to a half-hour of strong concentration.


Subpower Three: Combustion Resistance
Riley is immune to any explosion, fire, etc created by his own powers. He also is about half as vulnerable to outside heat/flame/explosion/etc as an ordinary human. Finally, Riley is immune to the dangers of smoke (including both smoke from fire and cigarette smoke) while wearing Agni, but still reaps potential benefits and can become addicted.

Riley’s life began with incredible promise. He was the only child of John and London Davis, a wildly successful business couple with millions upon millions of dollars in business, stocks, investments, and liquid savings. The family also made a point of donating to local shelters and many charities — especially those involved with mental health awareness, due to Olivia’s (and her family’s) own struggles. The Davises resided in a lush apartment on Chicago’s Gold Coast, and lived a dream-worthy life for many years.

However, this life began to fall away when Riley was 12 years old. His father was murdered in a freak encounter while conducting business in Chicago’s South Side. After a debilitating bout of depression, a brief hospital stay, and a flurry of legal proceedings, London soon followed via gunshot suicide. Riley found her. However, before her death, she did three important things: 1) She ensured Riley’s custody was given to her brother Darrell, instead of their former choice, Abigale (a trusted co-worker and family friend), 2) She continued to designate Abigale as the supervisor of Riley’s inheritance and allowances, and 3) She formally transferred Agni, her empowered ring, to Riley, thus making him it’s owner.

Life became difficult under Darrel’s roof. The man himself had been through much, and despite the former efforts of London and her husband, he’d gone sour. Perhaps once a good man, Darrel had become a violent, angry man, with a disposition for addiction and manipulation. He had his good moments, but they never lasted for long, because he was ultimately fueled by selfishness. Darrel began neglectful and became outright abusive with time and attitude from Riley, keeping the boy around in order to salvage his inheritance checks. Eventually, this abuse moved into sexual, as well. Searching for escape, and learning from the best of them, Riley followed Darrel’s habits and, too, began smoking, drinking, and even selling fireworks illegally for extra cash.

Sometime between the ages of 15 and 16, Riley was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and had the wrong attitude towards his attacker. He wound up being stabbed three times in the abdomen, catching the fourth in his hand and stealing the knife. Adrenaline drove him and he fought back, collapsing shortly after the mugger fell dead to the ground himself. A passerby overheard the commotion and alerted the police. Luckily, Riley survived without permanent damage. Even more luckily, a surveillance camera caught the entire ordeal, and Riley was released on the grounds of self-defense.

The letter from Starlight Academy arrived when Riley was 17, just finishing his junior year of high school. It provided an escape, and he was eager to take up the offer. However, the promise of full escape triggered the rage within him, and he couldn’t leave without paying his uncle back for years of hell. The night before Riley was set to leave, he acquired a gun and killed his uncle, before setting off fireworks in his home to burn it down (and calling the police anonymously to make sure it didn’t affect other houses).

Riley settled in nicely and met several people, and also received his inheritance. It took about a year before the MCPD connected all the dots with Riley’s uncle’s murder, and he was convicted just before finishing his senior year of high school. He dropped out, and spent the next year finishing his time in the Behavioral Correctional Facility on the juvie islands. It would have been a shorter stay, but he was stubborn in therapy, and only ever gave enough substance to be released. Riley was then released and currently lives on the main island.
