"You assholes! Don't leave me to this crazy brat!"
The man being held hostage yelled after his comrades. If this dragon figured out he had been the one to beat that girl he was fucked.
The man kept struggling, even while the dragon created some sand skeleton dolls and sent them after the men. The man was about to yell to the trees to warn his comrades, but then the dragon spoke to him. And before he could even answer the bastard broke his arm. The man yelled from pain and clenched his jaw. He puffed few times from pain, and then spit.
"The bitch deserved it. Her screams were annoying."

In the woods the two other men were captured easily enough, each of them immobilized one skeleton but the other ones were able to overcome the men. One of them really got his leg broken. But the leader, the man with the cold eyes, was able to destroy three skeletons and after a minute had passed he noticed his abilities were back. And like that the man erased himself. His scent, presence and any indication of his existence disappeared, but he was there. And as his henchmen got dragged back to the dragon he sneaked behind it, his gun just as nonexistent as him. But he couldn't shoot, or do anything in this state. He didn't exist, so he couldn't affect what was real. So he would run behind the dragon, and after pointing his gun at the boy's head he would start existing again, the barrel of his gun firmly against the back of the dragon's head.
"Free my men or I will shoot."
The only reason the man didn't shoot now was because even he still had some humanity in him, and he would rather not shoot children. But if Destra did anything suspicious he would shoot immediately.

He thought he got him, and if this was a few months ago he definitely would have been left with no options. Over a short period of time Destra had managed to become incredibly strong. Strong enough to take over his clan. He thought he'd demonstrated the fact that his lightning tore things apart enough, but he figured these guys had bad memories.

"Well, that's a nice ability. Seems like you've got me," the skeletons released the other two flunkies, and stood by. Three were missing, honestly that was fewer than he was expecting to lose. Destra acted fast, channeling an intense charge of lightning at the point where the gun was pressed against him. It began to fall apart. "Or you would have if my lightning wasn't so unique. It innately tears things apart. That's how I was able to stop that hail of machine gun fire earlier, that's how I made the sand for these skeletons."

Destra whistled, four of the skeletons went to grab the other men again, while the other three moved to mob their leader. Destra's attention was back on the one he grabbed.

"You're a real stand up guy huh? Well your bitching and moaning really makes me wanna beat you till you're black and blue. Must be rough," he punctuated he statement by stepping on his broken arm. "That how your alcoholic daddy treated you? Must make you feel like a real tough guy. You're all such tough guys right?"

He proceeded to punch and kick the man until he was thoroughly bruised up and bloody. But not dead, nowhere near dead, just in a lot of pain. "Next question: which one of you fucks... cut off her thumb?"

The leader jumped back as his gun started coming apart, and he couldn't do much for his men as they got grabbed by the skeletons. It was everyone for themselves. And that was his case as well, when three skeletons mobbed him. The leader began fighting the skeletons, he quickly took care of one but the other two were giving him trouble. It was clear he could win this fight, but it could take him some time. His henchmen, on the other hand, were starting to lose spirit and the skeletons could easily apprehend them. What cowards.

The man on the ground yelled again when Destra stepped on his broken arm, not saying anything and merely glaring up at the dragon. He kept glaring until his eyes swelled shut from being punched and kicked. During this beat down the leader got pushed against the ground by one of Destra's skeletons, and as the dragon asked his next question he didn't react in any way. Because it had been him. He had been the one strong enough to make it a clean and fast cut. But the other two men weren't as composed as their leader, and they both glanced at him. The leader closed his eyes, as he prepared himself. Or the dragon would take long enough for him to activate his ability again and escape. All he needed was another minute.

Destra was planning on moving on to their fearless leader anyway. He had no idea how long it took for his little party trick to kick back in, but it was probably close, if not ready to be used once again. His flunkies were so undisciplined, with the way they threw him under the bus.

"Eyes open, fearless leader. You handled this so sloppily you deserve every bit of this. You didn't need to cut her thumb off. You could have just put her on the phone," he had the skeleton prop the leader up, and took his hand, examining it. "You've got some nice fingers...."

There was no warning, Destra sprouted his tail, and ran the bony tip right through the man's knee. He didn't remove it either. The skeleton however, did let go. Even if he used his power where could he go on that leg?

"There will be no running," Destra's eyes were cold, definitely not the eyes of some angry teenager. Anyone with any kind of experience would know that he was no stranger to this sort of thing. The other skeletons forced the men to look on as their leader had his hand shredded by Destra's lightning, until little by little his fingers eventually fell off.

"I hope you're not thinking 'at least we won in the long term', because you haven't. All that fuss on the news, that was all a lie I cooked up to get Helena back. So when you look at your gnarled stump just remember that it was all for nothing."

The leader didn't answer, merely looked upon Destra expressionlessly. Nothing the dragon said could sway him, much less anything he did. But he did fell to his knee when Destra sliced the other one, the leader might not have had sense of pain, but his body knew when it couldn't do something.

The leader could recognize the look in Destra's eyes, somewhere deep inside he pitied the dragon for gaining those eyes at such a young age. But the pity was short-lived, as Destra proceeded to destroy his hand. Still the leader's face didn't flinch, even when one of the men at the back threw up.

What finally got the leader to react was Destra saying that they had been tricked. The leader cocked a brow at that, so that's how it was. The leader personally wouldn't have cared, he wasn't a part of this conflict, but he cared since he probably wouldn't get paid now.

Destra growled, and looked at the other three men with disgust. There was only one thing left to do as far as he was concerned. He moved to the man who he'd beaten, shaking his head. His arm was already broken, and he was thoroughly beaten up. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, as if debating whether he should or shouldn't do what he was considering.

And then in the same manner as their leader, he destroyed his good hand. "This is probably overkill but, I don't think you guys have really learned anything from this. So you'll have the scars to remember it."

With that, he moved to the other two, repeating the process. After he was done he whistled, the skeletons that were holding the men began to cackle with red electricity, then explode hard enough to knock them into the ground, but not kill them. "Well, go clean yourselves up. I have someone waiting for me, which is more than I can probably say for you."

Destra pushed off the ground, and rose into the air. He was done wasting his time with them. He hadn't even shifted as he flew higher, and eventually began to head back. Back to Helena's family, back to her side. He just let out a tired sigh, things were finally wrapping up with this.

Police sirens could be heard in the distance, called in by Hendricksen. The leader of the group wasn't worried, he had his ways to deal with captivity and he didn't have to worry about these men.
The man Destra had beaten was unconscious on the ground, but as Destra walked over and destroyed his hand he woke up with a violent jerk and screamed from pain, only to pass out again soon after. The other men began resisting and even begging, until they screamed from pain as well as their hands were destroyed.
All of the men were knocked out by the exploding skeletons, left there to wait for the police to pick them up.

Back in the mansion Helena was awake, barely, and getting examined by an EMT. She was feeling weak and tired, and she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep properly for a long time. Helena was no stranger to nightmares, and she was pretty sure those were going to be a frequent visitor from now on.
Helena let out a small annoyed gruff, when the EMT pointed a light in her eye, and he nodded a bit, turning to Hendricksen and Olga who were standing by.
"She has a concussion, bruising, several microruptures and two broken ribs. And that hand has been poorly sanitized and needs treatment. We will take her to the ER and get her stabilized."
Helena got mildly annoyed the EMT was talking like she wasn't there and weakly cleared her throat.
"I'm right here, and I'm not messed up enough not to understand your words."
Hendricksen sighed a bit and went over to Helena, stroking her hair a bit.
"I'm sorry dear. Go back to sleep, you need it."
Helena felt the brief urge to complain about being treated like a child, but after what she had been through she'd let her parents treat her like a baby for a while. Both them and her had been scarred by this. Helena nodded and closed her eyes, not sleeping yet but close to it.

Helena was put it a wheelchair and brought outside, where an ambulance was waiting. Helena looked around, avoiding turning her head because that hurt like hell, looking for Destra. Was he done with the kidnappers yet? Helena had said not to kill them but there was a small part of her angry enough, that wouldn't feel bad if he did. But Helena pushed that part back, it wasn't helping anyone.
"Father? Destra was here, right? Did he return already?"
Helena asked Hendricksen, who was the one pushing the wheelchair. Hendricksen let out an affirming sound and stopped pushing, as the EMTs lifted Helena to the back of the ambulance.
"He didn't return yet. I'll tell him where to find you, don't worry."

It didn't take long for Destra to return to the mansion. He could see the ambulance, and Helena being wheeled over to it. He was just in time. The dragon effectively dropped out of the sky, landing a short distance away from everyone. He let out a tired sigh, and went over to join the group.

"They won't be a problem anymore," he said. "How is she?"

Helena and Hendricksen could both see Destra returning, and Helena felt too tired to even lift her hand so she nodded as he came over. Hendricksen similarly nodded, and opened his mouth to answer Destra's question. But Helena spoke first.
"Don't tell me you too are going to speak like I'm not here?"
Her voice was weak, but discernible enough, and now Helena did smile slightly. After all, she was incredibly relieved and happy Destra was here. She lifted her arm a bit and held out a hand towards Destra, wanting to hold his hand.
"Come to the hospital with me? For some reason I really don't want to go alone. It's alright, right Father?"
Helena looked over at Hendricksen, and from her eyes Hendricksen could see that she wouldn't take no for an answer. Hendricksen let out a tired sigh as well and turned to Destra.
"She has a concussion, bruising and damaged bones, and possibly infection on her hand. You won't be able to enter the ER with her, but you can ride with her in the ambulance if you wish."
