"Yes. Then I will be counting on you. Yes, thank you. Goodbye."
Hendricksen set the phone down with a sigh and rubbed his temple briefly. That was the 6th call he had made this afternoon, to an investor that was "buying" his land. The other calls had been about the same thing, Hendricksen calling in to check if his companies and stocks and other earthly possessions had been "purchased" successfully. They had, and from this moment on Hendricksen and his family were officially without any wealth for the first time...in recorded family history. It would all have been quite shocking even to the Regalia of the unwavering will if it hadn't been a trick.
It was all over the papers, that their family was now void of fortune, and the title of a noble wasn't far behind. That was what they wanted the kidnappers to see and believe.

Hendricksen walked to the window in his office, although the house wasn't his anymore so it wasn't his office, and looked at the young man that was standing outside on the yard. He had come here and claimed to be Hendricksen's daughter's boyfriend, and although he had found it hard to believe the boy, Destra as he had called himself, still remained. This plan was partly his making, and although Hendricksen didn't trust him yet he wanted his daughter back. And he could see Destra wanted the same.
The clock struck 4pm, and Hendricksen's phone rang. His hands squeezed into tight fists and he walked over and picked up the phone. Hendricksen's voice was coated with held back rage.
"You have what you want. Free my daughter at once."

***

"Calm down, Mr. Hendricksen. Your daughter will be back with you soon enough."
Mr. Hendricksen? Father?
Helena's mind was slowly waking up, and the first thing she heard was her father's name. What was happening?
Helena tried moving her body, but though her mind was awake her body was still catching up. Helena could tell she was in a car or some other moving vehicle, it smelled like gasoline and smoke and she could hear the tires rolling. There was a bump in the road, and Helena hit her head and let out a weak, quiet groan of pain. Straight on the bump that she had gotten when one of the kidnappers had thrown her too violently.
"If there are police around or on the property we have ways of escaping and disposing of your daughter."
And with that Helena could hear the man, the man with cold eyes, end the phone call. They were returning her? What had father and mother done in order to get her back? Helena didn't even know what this was all about. Money? Politics? Power? There were many possibilities and Helena's drowsy mind didn't have the energy to consider them all. Helena just wanted to go home.
And maybe kick some of these men's teeth in. That would've been beyond satisfying.
"It's happening again. I can't even look at her."
Helena would've frowned at that if she could. She was confused, what did he mean?

The car pulled to a stop, and the door of the car, van?, was opened. Helena was pulled out, her feet and wrists were tied. But she still couldn't move, so those were useless anyway. At this point, however, she could crack one of her eyes open slightly, and she looked at the four men surrounding her. They were all here.
"There aren't any police on the property, and the staff has been sent home. The only people there are the posh bastard and his wife."
Posh bastard? Is that father? What an unimaginative insult.
"Good. Send her over, and let's get out of here. You can manage 5 miles, right?"
"Don't insult me, boss. She might get a few bruises more from falling, but she'll be right on the front door."
Helena was set down on the ground, and one of the men(the one that liked to treat Helena roughly) began making strange gestures. And after few moments Helena felt strangely light, like she was floating. With that Helena was warped right to the front door of her parents' mansion, almost 2 meters off the ground. Immediately she began falling, this was going to hurt. Although Helena had hurt plenty during this past week, and her face and body all mirrored that, covered in bruises and small wounds here and there. And Helena didn't know, but her hair was now platinum blonde and her eyes were bright blue.

Fortunately Helena wouldn't have to fall too far before Destra moved and caught her in his arms. She was covered in bruises and injuries, but most notably her hair had changed its color. Her brown hair was blond now, he had a lot of questions about it. And in spite of his genuine relief to see her, hold her again he had one question.

"I need to know how many and where are they?" he growled. There was absolutely no way they were getting away from him. Their prize would be nothing. Destra set Helena on the ground gently, but still kept a gentle hand on her, in spite of his intensity. In spite of any natural light the area almost seemed like a storm had rolled in, ready to unleash its rage.

Helena had braced herself for the impact, had expected to hit the ground. But someone caught her, and even though Helena had her eyes closed she knew who it was. Helena let out a long, deep sigh and opened her eyes as much as she could. It was Destra, like she had thought. Helena had never felt this relieved to see anyone, and she felt like crying. She didn't though, not right now. Because Helena could also tell Destra was furious, she couldn't blame him. Helena was furious too.

It took a moment before Helena could get her voice out, but whisper was enough for Destra to hear her.
"They said...they were 5 miles away...there's four. One loud one...and one with cold eyes, and...one that makes terrible puns, and the one that...liked to kick me..."
Helena was rambling, she knew that, but her mind was disoriented and she was so relieved and afraid and who knew what else. She closed her eyes again, suddenly feeling so relaxed now that Destra was here.
"Don't...kill them..."

She was very clearly too worn out for anymore questions. After he was done taking care of the kidnappers he had no intentions of leaving her side. Destra simply nodded in response to her information. He had a few vague ideas of where they could be just from the surveys he took of the area when he arrived. Five miles wasn't far off either.

"Yeah... get inside, see your parents, rest. I'll be back in a bit alright?"

He gave her a kiss before flying high up into the air. He hadn't even taken his dragon form yet. That said, his eyes had shifted, scanning the area for anything. It only took a few moments, looking for anything odd or at least matching Helena's description. When he got a lock on his prey, he flew up even higher, shifting into his dragon form. He dove, aiming near enough to them to alarm them. When he hit, he let out a sharp roar. They knew what they did. They knew what this was.

Hendricksen had seen his daughter appear through the window, and was out in the yard as quickly as his legs carried him. And just as Destra took to the sky Hendricksen threw the doors open and ran to Helena.
"Helena. Helena, answer me, are you conscious?"
Hendricksen asked with a calm, controlled tone, even though his mind was churning. He was holding Helena in his arms carefully, for now not asking anything about the hair and her eyes. She had been through enough.
Helena looked at her father, and a lone tear fell on her face.
"I'm...not okay..everywhere hurts. Where's...mother?"
Hendricksen let out a shivering sigh and gently hugged his daughter close. And he hoped he
could've been out there doing whatever Destra was doing to those bastards.

The man with cold eyes was driving the van, closing of the chatter of the men in the backseat, gloating about this achievement of theirs. To him it was all business, there was nothing to gloat about. He had done his job, and now he was going to get paid. That's all there was to it. Although roughing up a child was never a pleasant thing to do, unlike that one asshole seemed to think. He had clearly enjoyed it whenever the girl had decided to act tough. It gave him one more reason to hit her.

He could feel a tremor in the road, and could see further ahead as something flew down from the sky. The man suddenly hit the brakes and the van came to a sudden halt. The men in the back cursed up a storm, but the man with cold eyes assessed carefully what was in front of them.
"Holy shit, they hired a fucking dragon?!"
Such language.
The man didn't wait for the other men to finish gawking, he grabbed his biggest machine gun, got out of the car and fired the first shots at the beast. Better get this over with fast, the dragon seemed angry. The rest of the men did the same, although one of them was stupid enough to warp next to the dragon and try to hit it directly with a machete.

Bullets from the front, a moron from the side with a machete. His scales were too thick and layered for the machete, but bullets would hurt. Unfortunately, Destra had counter measures for that. He allowed the man with the machete to swing on him, he'd quickly find that to be ineffective. Destra simply held out a hand, channeling his red electricity in front of him. Any bullets flying at him were effectively disintegrated.

Before they could try anything else, he released a wave of electrical energy around them and shifted back into his human form. He disarmed the man with the machete, and effectively took him as a hostage. Their car would have stopped running, and the men would find themselves unable to use their abilities.

"Get out of the car, now," his words had an unnatural weight to them, as if they had no other choice but to listen. And the sky seemed to have darkened with his arrival. He tightend his grip on the kidnapper he'd taken. "If you don't I will remove the car from you. You don't want me to do that."

This dragon was strong. It didn't require him a lot of effort to take that one idiot hostage and render bullets useless. And on top of that, after a strange electrical pulse traveled through the area, the man with cold eyes and his team noticed they couldn't use their abilities. The man with cold eyes didn't lower his gun, but he couldn't shoot. The dragon, apparently he was a child as well, had one of his goons as a hostage. And the man wanted to assess the situation before he stooped down to shooting the man, alobg with the dragon.

"How much are they paying you? We can multiple that amount by however much you desire. Just let us leave in peace."
The man with cold eyes attempted to negotiate, getting angry looks from the rest of the men, who were now outside the car. If this dragon was hired money could possibly sway him. Dragons were greedy. But if it was personal, then the man was ready to fight his way through.

"That was my girlfriend. Do you think a little money is going to undo the shit you put her through? I don't hoard money and riches. The most valued treasures I have are my allies and friends. You four stole from my hoard, and damaged one of my most precious treasures."

His grip on his hostage wasn't loosening at all. Any struggling the man tried wouldn't loosen Destra's grip at all. The dragon growled and shifted an arm, scales fanning out. He fired a scale at their car's tire, deflating it. Double insurance in case they got it up and running again.

"So... which one of you fucks likes beating up scared teenage girls?"

So it was personal. That was all he needed to know. The man with cold eyes began turning towards the van the moment he learned the dragon had not been hired, but the dragon was faster and deflated the tire. The man looked back at the dragon, now he needed to get the warper back if they wanted to get away from here as fast as possible.

The two other men behind their leader started to look unsure, and began looking around for possible escape routes. The one Destra was holding hostage, the one Helena had described as "the one who liked kicking her", flinched ever so slightly when hearing Destra's words. The men on the road behind their leader took off in different directions. The road was lined by forest on both sides of the road, and the two hoped the dragon wouldn't chase both of them into the trees.

Hendricksen had to almost hold his wife back from hugging Helena too hard, as he carried her inside. She had fallen asleep, most probably overcome with all the stress she had been through. And now Helena was in her own bed, and Hendricksen had called the ambulance. If Helena had more serious injuries she'd be moved to a hospital, but otherwise Hendricksen didn't want her to leave the house of his sight.
Olga, Helena's mother, sat on the bed and held Helena's hand. The ambulance sirens could be heard in the distance.

Destra growled as the others scattered into the woods. Making extra work for him, fortunately he had enough in his tool kit that this was just a minor set back. No one ever expected this ability from him, but for instances like this it was handy as hell. He fired several balls of lightning at the ground, reducing it to a fine sand-like consistency. Then struck the sand with several more blasts of lightning.

"Run them down and drag them back, break their legs if you have to," he said to the ten skeletons forming from the earth. Each of them crackled menacingly with their own red lightning, and ran off after the men. Once they were gone, Destra looked at his hostage.

"Don't think I didn't notice that little cringe. Don't worry, she was generous enough to ask me not to kill you. Death's too lenient a punishment in my opinion anyway," and with that Destra broke the man's arm, in one clean motion.

"I'm going to give back to all of you, what you gave to her. And when people ask then they'll know what stupid things you did. And how it all amounted to nothing but a painful existence for you. I'll elaborate on that more when your buddies get back here though."
