The Disease Awareness Party didn't teach him much about diseases, but it gave him a new friend. A hot lamia named Narraine talked it up with him at the party. She was a medical sciences major with a motherly streak. Even though he remembered she was going to be a surgeon, he could see her being both a good doctor to talk to pre-operation and a great mother. It was too bad that she had a boyfriend; he would've snatched her up real quick. However, it was still great to make her acquaintance.

Using the student directory, he got a hold of her information and managed to reach out to her. They were to meet outside the courtyard. The plan: show off their cool powers to one another. He contemplated how open she'd be to riding on his back and how that would work. Well, that's if she wanted to fly anyway. He waited patiently. It was still fairly cool, so he wore a jacket over his t-shirt. He wore boots for no reason other than them being cool. On his phone, he looked for places they could go to eat at afterwards if they felt hungry. Meanwhile some music from a band called Set It Off played through his earbuds.

Now where was she?

Narraine wasn't sure how she had managed to keep going as long as she had. In the last couple of weeks alone, her school work had doubled, she had adopted a foster child, and Jared had been hospitalized. She was overwhelmed and needed a chance to let loose for even a little bit. just a few days prior she had met Raul at the disease awareness party. He was a young and charismatic dragon, who seemed to have taken a liking to her. So when he had asked her out to mess around with powers she had jumped at the opportunity.

Today had been the perfect day to hang out. Her classes ended at ten, giving them five solid hours before she had to be back to pick up Iesha. That was five hours that she had no obligations, and could simply relax for a bit.

Narraine smiled as she rounded the corner and caught sight of Raul. He looked like he might have been waiting for her already, hopefully not too long. She slithered up to him rather quickly, a large grin spreading across her face. "Hey there. You waiting long? I hope not. Sorry. I tried to get out here as soon as I could."

He paused his music player and put the phone away. A bright smile flashed on his face. Narraine looked nice, but perhaps a bit tired. He had questions, but he was going to take it slow. After all, they still had a ways away until the nearest forest clearing. He offered her a bow with a goofy grin on his face.

"Hey Gorgeous--I mean Narraine. Can't help it. Nah, I wasn't waiting long."

The dragon stood upright with his hands moving to his pockets. He kept a relaxed posture.

"Ya doing alright?"

Simple enough question to start off with. The specific questions would come after. It was really just a matter of listening and following up from there. It would also give him time to consider what tricks he was going to pull while they were having this powers demonstration.

Narraine gave a slight chuckle to his question. It's not that the question itself was funny, but to her, the answer felt so out of normality that even thinking about it made her laugh. "I'm doing... I mean... not alright... but... not terribly... I mean..." She had to pause and think her response through properly. [coor=#BDA0CB]"It's been a long week." She eventually settled on a safe answer. Her tongue flicked out a couple times, collecting his scent. It was like fresh linen on a summer breeze. Very pleasant, and surprising. did all dragons smell like this? Was it a wind dragon thing? Did he use Gain laundry detergent, or was he simply zestfully clean?

"Needless to say I'm looking forward to starting a few fires." She chuckled again at her own little joke. Of course, that was what she was here to do. toss a few fireballs, show off a bit, and in turn, she could burn off some aggravation. The bigger question was where were they going? They could hit the woods, and so long as the fire remained blue she could control it. or they could hit the open fields not far off and go crazy there. Either option was fine.

[colo=#BDA0CB]"So.. Where we heading to?"

"We're going to the woods. Specifically a clearing there. I figured that'd be the best place."

A nice, spacious stage for their performances. He noted the odd answer she gave. There definitely seemed to be a story behind it, and he would learn about it layer by layer. He decided to pick a specific point of attack. Now, what would be the easiest...after a few moments, he performed a mental facepalm. They were on the school campus right now; might as well ask about her classes.

"Hope your professors weren't too hard on ya! How were classes?"

He recalled that she was a medical student. Considering the years required for a degree and the class load, he could imagine that being a stressor. Hopefully she'd be open to venting. He was open to hearing her out. On the academic front though, he doubt he could help much. The dragon was not known for his book smarts. With one hand, he gestured towards the direction. He debated offering his arm, but instead he elected to walk next to her. She could take it if she felt up to it. His eyes watched where he was going somewhat, but they were mostly focused on the pretty snake lady next to him.

A clearing in the woods was a good place. it gave them enough privacy that no one would see them and think they were fighting, and at the same time, it reduced on wind and burnables. If anything it was the safest choice.

The topic had changed to her classes as they started walking. "My classes? They are... Hectic. it seems like everything has doubled up on me. I mean I love to set the curve so to speak, but it seems that as of Late even I am having issues keeping up." It had become a huge burden, and she had been debating dropping her classes for a few years to focus on being a mother. She would, after all, live for several hundred years, so it wasn't a big deal if she had to wait another five or so. But she still had her desire to try, and for that, she would keep going. At least for now.

"I'm worried that it might take away from my being a good mother... Which I kind of want to do more than being a doctor or surgeon." She sighed a little as she slithered along beside him. It was now that she noticed the way he carried himself. He was what she might have expected from a dragon. confident. His strides were long and powerful, and he kept close enough to her, that he had asserted a sort of quasi-ownership, while at the same time he maintained enough distance to show he was not insecure. In a way, it reminded her of a higher centaur.

"So How about you? How are your classes going?" She asked brushing a small braid of hair behind her ear.

Raul frowned a bit. So she was overloaded with work, huh? He could theorize why, but he didn't want to be rude. After all, he could tell she was a strong woman. Despite her likely exhaustion, she slithered onwards. She kept good pace with him and exuded a level of confidence. That aura attracted him more than her looks even; her beauty was just a bonus. Now that she was done speaking, he had a few words to reply back with.

"My classes are going pretty well. Honestly, the hardest part of them is the projects. They are fairly spread out, but they take up more time than a paper. I like making stuff over writing about things though."

This major was ideal for him. It basically banked on his strengths and managed to maintain his interest since it was about games. He wondered if the lamia played video games before. ...Considering her schedule, he couldn't see her playing them regularly. Could maybe be a cute idea if she was interested. Her kid was ten, right? Maybe her daughter would like games. He needed to consider buying gifts for the two of them.

"As for the workload, while I'm no genius, I can at least help on the parent front. It sounds like you could really use the help. I can tell ya a good, caring mother, but trying to balance classes and parenthood's hell. You clearly got a lotta drive and strength to be doing what ya doing. I admire you."

A sincere smile broke out on his face as he turned to look at her.

"I got ya back, Narraine. If there's anything I can do to help, tell me. I do have babysitting experience. I could also take you out for stuff like this to destress. Hell, if it doesn't bother you, you could bring Iesha and we could get ice cream or go somewhere fun."

Hopefully he wasn't -too- forward, but he was eager to offer a hand. His schedule gave him a decent chunk of time to spend; might as well use it to assist someone else.

((OOC: Is all good))

It sounded like Raul was loaded in his own classes though as he mentioned it was the projects that took up the most time. Her own was the opposite. She was writing two or three papers a week now, they weren't so bad as she was usually able to hammer them out either while Iesha was doing her own school work, or later in the evening by lamplight. She had come to enjoy when she and the young lamia would spread their books out on the floor, and do their own homework together. It gave her the chance to help Iesha, while provided them a chance to bond.

though as things carried on Narraine could see just how hard Rayl was trying. It was incredibly sweet needless to say. "Well. I don't know if Iesha would be ok with things like that. she is a bit skittish around new people, and wary around males. She had some trauma before coming to the island, and it's been a challenge getting her to settle." She had remembered how Iesha stayed close to her when they went, out, and how she would maintain polite conversation only as long as she needed to. "It's not to say she would be afraid of you. But I don't want to push her just yet."

"Though I don't mind the opportunities to unwind. On days like today, when I have a chunk of time to myself, I usually have not much to do. I mean I can be working on homework n things, but I'd rather relax, ya know?" She smiled as she spoke. Her tongue continued to flick periodically keeping his scent, and the new smells around them from the forest.

Narraine's hands had begun to get a bit chilly as they went. more specifically her fingertips. Without thinking she created herself a pair of small blue fireballs and held them in each hand. They instantly warmed her, up without causing any sort of burning what so ever. It was just another of her little tricks.

"So what kind of projects do you do? I bet they are pretty neat. I mean. I don't know much about video games, but everyone seems to be playing them."

Of course he didn't know anything about Iesha. She only talked a bit about her after all. He nodded in understanding at her response.

"I don't wanna rush her either. Don't worry about it, I get it."

So it wasn't time for him to meet her daughter yet. He would wait it out. The last thing he wanted was to upset the child. His hand scratched the back of his head.

"Would it be okay if I got her something though? You can be the one to pass it along, or I can have it delivered."

Raul theorized what would make for a nice gift. The best idea would be to question her mother on what the little girl liked. Then from there he could get something. He was rich; it was no problem. Between his inheritance and the salary he got from the adoption center, he could get pretty much anything. Plus perhaps it'd make the girl happy.

"I would be more than happy to take you out. I can come up with some things, but what is it you enjoy to do?"

It would be good to receive some level of input. Even if she had no idea, it would inform his next moves. Then there was the question about his projects. She admitted to not knowing much about games, so he kept a mental note to not go into too much lingo.

"Well, since I'm on the artsy side of games, my projects generally have to do with that. Nowadays I usually have to make and animate 3D models."

He pulled out his phone then accessed the pictures app. He proceeded to pull up his project folder then handed it to the lamia. She would see pictures of shapes, objects, and characters he made. His work was pretty good.

"There's this project where we have to combine the stuff we've made into one scene. Currently we're working on creating a setting. Something like a classroom or like a part of a forest."

He would take the phone back when she was done viewing it.

"I imagine your workload involves a lot of papers. I bet a smart woman like you can write well."

Raul certainly did seem like a nice person. He was meeting her resistance with gentle compassion, but still enough confidence to not turn tail and run. He reminded her of someone from a long time ago, and it was nice to be around him. "You-You'd want to get her something? I mean yeah that's fine. it's very sweet really. I'm sure you could come by one of these days." She was surprised by his kindness, though she wondered if there might not have been an alternative motive involved.

"I enjoy lots of things. I used to pretty simple but since coming here, I'm ashamed to say I've developed a few higher end tastes." It wasn't a lie. Before coming to this world she would have been satisfied with nothing more than a large meal, and a nap. Now, though, there was so much more to see, do and learn that she wanted to do everything. Anything that allowed her to learn more was a good choice. She loved to expand herself and learn. "I like the aquarium. it has so many things I have never seen before, and I'm honestly never ever disappointed after visiting it." It was one of her favorite places. Jared had taken her there a couple of times, and they had always spent hours watching the fish and enjoying each others company.

"I do enjoy physical activity as well. I worry that I don't get enough some days, with how long I spend in school." Another truth and a minor point of stress. She had no desire to turn into a fat worm, so keeping fit was important to her. Swimming and cardio were among her favorite forms of activity. "Back home I used to fight with my sisters. We would coil around each other, and lift up on our tails. The goal was to push each other over. It may not sound too intense, but when we are 15 feet, up and able to crush a car with our tails, it proves to be quite grueling."

She gave a laugh as she remembered the first time she had fought with her larger sister Corsolin. She had been outweighed by the larger Lamia by nearly a thousand pounds. Which had pretty much guaranteed her own failure.

As the pair progressed towards the clearing, their conversation flowed easily back into his game Designs. He explained he handled the more artistic side of things and handed her his phone with several images that reflected his work. Narraine had always admired those who could create artwork. There were really fewer things nobler than creating something beautiful out of nothing. Art in its own way was powerful. it could inspire someone to keep going or tear them down, leaving them broken.

"I can see your very talented Raul. I've seen some of these types of art before and I have to imagine a great deal of skill goes into it." She said as she handed his phone back. She believed very much in praise where praise was due, and in this case, He certainly was deserving of praise.

"Would you believe that When I got here I couldn't write in this language? I could speak it, but only because coincidentally it was spoken by the humans back home. it's easier for me to speak in tongue, though." She smiled as she flicked her forked tongue again. "Oh.. Sorry. The tongue is what we called our own language. It's a series of hisses and draws of breath. It's subtle and sweet. Many can learn to understand it with time, but only those with a forked tongue can use it." She was getting off topic, but somehow she doubted he would mind. So far he had seemed interested in her.

All around them the tree's seemed to be closing in, not in an ominous or forbidding manner. Instead, it was natural, and strangely fluid. Much like the vast forests of her home. Walking through the tree's was causing her to have a strange feeling of nostalgia as it reminded her of her own personal trips into the woods. Often she would spend days wandering around looking for places to meditate. In the summer this would be wonderful to visit. She even thought that she might be able to find some streams to bath in if she were lucky.

"So Raul. Did you come here for family, or were you scouted? What is your story?" She was curious now. From what she understood people either knew of the island through family and came willingly, or they were scouted by the academy staff and brought over. It was always in the hopes of a better life.
