Relieve Me of My Heart's Scars

The water surface rippled as a flat smooth stone went skipped across him. It bounced two times before sinking and it was quickly follwed up by another one. A light arm drew back and threw yet another one. Lumis had been staying in alot as of late seeing only the interior of his dorm room, as well as everywhere else in the school and left for the first time in a week or so. But the moment he had stepped out of the door, for once he had no idea where to go. He didn't want to go too far off though. He hadn't the heart to go out farther than the outskirts of the school. The gaiety the city was too much for him to handle right now and he spent two hours, walking around, though the lawn, the forest, and back, with his nose wrinkled so much, it might of stuck that way.

But eventually, he found the lake for the umpteenth time. Calm, cool, empty, perfect for a guy in his mindset. His long red and black hair down to his knees, in his typical white dress shirt, long sleeved, black jeans and white sneakers, a pile of smooth, flat rocks piled on top of his feet and he had been skipped them for the past half hour. He thought of going swimming, but he hadn't brought his swimsuit, though it was still warm out. His choices were limited to taking on the form of a fish and swimming, skipping stones and lounging around thinking. Except he had been thinking so much lately, his head hurt. He sighed as he skipped another stone. The fish idea would mean relieving himself of his garments so he decided against that. Choices, choices, choices...

Hmm, this lake had some pretty rocks. Very pretty indeed. There was quite an assortment, each rock was different and pretty for it's own reasons and Scythe bent over to scoop up as many as she could carry. The only difficulties were sorting out the ones that she liked the best, she couldn't possibly keep them all. Besides, she only needed two or three to keep in her pockets. The girl enjoyed the feeling of the smooth stones in her hands and she plopped down onto the edge of the lake, spreading her rocks out to look through.

None of them were quite the rocks she was looking for so she gathered them all up and buried them in the sand. Having finished her work she brushed off her hands and peered curiously around. There was a boy nearby, skipping stones into the lake. Lovely, smooth stones. Maybe he could be convinced to let her have some.

"Those are some nice stones." She shuffled over, eyeing them and mentally choosing some she would like if he offered them. "But why are you throwing them? The stones couldn't have done anything to deserve being thrown into the lake."

Skip, skip, skip. With each little stone tossed by Lumis, his arm would feel sluggish and that effect would grow larger with toss. Each stone that had met with the surface of the lake made a sound as if droplets of water were leaking from a pipe before inevitably sinking into the depths below. Each stone he threw had a similar feel and design to it; smooth, and oval shaped. He failed to notice the girl nearby. He just continued to skip, skip, and skip some more. There was one thing that would be better to do other than this, that being shapeshift, but Lumis didn't feel the need or the legitimate reason to do such a thing right now, that was, until he heard a voice, predominantly female. He was in the action of preparing another toss but paused when he swung his arm forward, the stone still at hand. He heard the comment about the stones, then a question. He looked at her. "Yes, these are nice. Want some?" he offered. "I don't normally do this sort of thing. I'm just bored." he answered.

"Yes please." Scythe grinned and started to paw through the stones, selecting the smoothest prettiest ones she could find before straightening the pile up again. "These are perfect. I'm Scythe." She stood and brushed the dirt off of the back of her jeans. Testing the weight of the stones in her hands Scythe seemed to find them perfect indeed and she slipped them into her pockets.

"What do you normally do?" She was usually doing a million different things and didn't have to worry about being bored, but was still curious as to what others did to combat boredom. It was an interesting topic to her.

He nodded when she answered him. He put down all of the stones on the ground for her to choose from. He couldn't really tell which ones were indeed the prettiest, by he figured any one of them would do. When she introduced herself as Scythe to him, he simply nodded and introduced himself in return. "Scythe huh? Interesting. Well, for what it's worth, my name is Lumis. Charmed to meet you. About what I normally do, I usually do this..." Since she was here, he figured she had powers, so he would show her his own powers. Using his mind, his telekinetic skills, he skipped some more stones. "And I can do this. Do you like cats?" After he said this, he transformed into a fluffy white cat. He purred, tail swooning softly.

Lumis? Hmm, that was a name she hadn't heard before. Then again, her name was pretty unique as well. She didn't say anything about his apparent telekinesis but when he transformed into a kitty she couldn't help herself. He looked so fluffy and touchable, she really hoped he didn't mind if she petted him.

Figuring that he was asking for it by turning into such a fluffy animal she reached over to pet his head. "Yes, I like cats a lot. You're a very fluffy cat." A thought ran through her mind and she withdrew her hand. Was she expected to give him a demonstration of her powers? Ehh, that wouldn't be easy.

It seemed that she was taken by surprise when he shifted into his cat form. He purred again as she petted him. He reverted after she did this, then stood up from the ground. "It's not all that worked up to be. Really." He sat down again and looked at her. "So I take it that you have powers too?"

"Ehh, yeah. You could say that. But it's not really something I can control." She aimlessly kicked at the sand, wondering what would be the easiest way to explain it. Her power was weird. "Long story short whatever I'm feeling influences others emotions."

In his time here thus far, Lumis had already witnessed powers of others. He didn't deem any of his discoveries as 'weird'. Whatever her power was, it wouldn't bother him, or so he would think. "Hmm...quite interesting. Well I can turn into a bunch of other things. The cat is really my thing though. I especially enjoy when people notice me and think how I am cute. Then comes the petting." He paused for a giggle, then continued. "One time someone caught my eye by saying she had a mouse. She didn't have one, that was, until she made out of ice."

Scythe giggled a little at his comment about being petted. "I figured you were asking for it. Such a fluffy cat should only expect to be petted and such." She began fidgeting with his pile of stones, knocking them over and stacking them up again. "Why were you bored?" She tilted her head slightly, ceasing her activities with the stones. Some tiny part of her wished she could do something as interesting as shapeshift or telekinesis. Her power could get extremely dangerous in certain situations.
