One step...one hundred steps....Vigoratus counted the stairs as he climbed. He almost lost count at one stage, but then he remembered what he was up to. When he finally reached the top, he was exhausted. Wow! He thought, reflecting on his final number, One thousand and twenty-four steps! That's a lot. But it was worth it. Vigoratus loved watching sunsets, and there was no better place than the tallest tower. Going over to the window, Vigoratus saw that he had made it just in time.
The horizon was a deep, blood red. It faded into a bright, shining gold, and finally became deep purple. Perfect, Thought Vigoratus, looking at the miracle before him, Utterly perfect. Vigoratus sat in the windowframe to watch the rest of the sunset. He knew that it would fade through the varying hues and finally leave a perfectly black sky dotted with silver pinpricks. But he loved it all the same. Leaning in the window, Vigoratus was sillhouetted against the sky.
