Appearance Description: Professor Isra stands at a relatively tall (by earthling standards) height of 6’1. He is neither stout nor lanky in proportion. He has a long, oval shaped face with a sharp jawline, accentuated by a neatly groomed beard and mustache combo. Normally his full lips are pursed in concentration, or scowling slightly in minor annoyance, but he smiles around his kids and wife often enough. Raphael has long, dark eyes and thick arched eyebrows; his lashes are long and dark. As a doctor, he finds it professional to keep his hair trimmed relatively short, and pushed back from his face. He can be usually be seen wearing professional work attire, the most relaxed public look seeming to be business casual. He doesn’t wear jeans or tank tops, and finds them to be unseemly.

Personality Description: “What a bookworm!” While that may commonly be meant to be taken as an insult, Raph has always taken it in stride and identified with the term. As a professor and medical professional he enjoys sharing what he knows as well. He’s confident in his mastery of the chosen subjects, but due to his introverted and reserved nature, he normally prefers to design and execute some brilliant idea within his arena, rather than share opinions on “uninteresting” distractions like gossip.

He seems like a walking paradox to those who get to know him. The most starry-eyed idealist wearing the thick coat of a bitter cynic. Sounds conflicting and impossible, however it’s not. He holds it in his heart that with enough motivation, effort and hard work, anything can be achieved... but he doesn’t hold his breath, and sets his realistic expectations much lower as he’s seen many people be lazy, short-sighted and self centered time and time again. It’d be smart to realise that, however cynical, once something’s caught his interest it’s hard to dissuade him from achieving a result he thinks relevant.

His stoic demeanor radiates self-confidence, and for some reason outside of his understanding, seems to inadvertently cloak him in an aura of mystery. His insightful observations, original ideas and formidable logic have enabled him to push for change with sheer willpower and force of personality. Anyone who doesn’t have the talent to keep up with his processes, or worse, refuses see the point of them, is likely to immediately and permanently lose the professor’s respect.

While Raphael is brilliant, when it comes to the tedium of social contact and social constructs, he often finds himself exhausted and annoyed, if not clueless. White lies and small talk are hard enough for him, and repetitive unfulfilling socialisations often lead him to avoid such things all together. If he’s not interested in a co-worker’s chatter, he’ll coldly ignore it, or worse, bluntly remind them that he doesn’t really care. For obvious reasons this can be incredibly off putting for others who may more emotionally driven or socially adapted. If confronted with someone he finds particularly obnoxious to deal with he may start to treat them with utter contempt and disdain, condescending to them if they challenge him on a topic and battering them down with a gale force torrent of information to prove them wrong. If someone has really caught his ire he’ll begin to systematically dismantle them, referencing a list of ugly truths about the subject and chipping away at their preconceived self image to tip them over the edge. It takes much, or a pushing of very specific buttons, to irk him to this extent At times, this uncanny personal observation can make it seem like he’s keeping notes on people- and to be frank he does. Not physical ones, however. He has a knack for noticing and remembering little details about people.

All this being said, he’s not always an asshole. Emotions are an incredibly challenging aspect for him to try to deal with. He takes extreme pride in remaining rational and logical at all times, considering honesty and straightforward information to be paramount to euphemisms and platitudes in pretty much every circumstance. A more nuanced look would realise that these qualities of coolness and detachment aren’t the “weapons of truth” that they appear to be, but are actually shields designed to protect the inner emotions that he often feels plagued by. These distracting little emotions are contrary to his idea of himself as a paragon of logic and knowledge, and when stressed he may go so far as to assert that he feels nothing at all. This doesn’t mean that he should really be seen as such.

As a parent of three, he’s learned to be a bit more understanding and considerate of his children’s needs. Though he might not be the best equipped at handling teenage drama, he strives to give his children everything he can- and if that meant moving the world he would. Yet, to say he spoils them wouldn’t be entirely accurate. He gives his kids freedom, but expects them to use their freedom responsibly. He allows their independence because he wants them to explore the world and figure out their own solutions. This being said, he’d try his best to protect them from what he reasonably can.

Species Abilities: Andromedans are a tough race that’s fully taken advantage of genetic modification. With triple helix DNA and hundreds of thousands of edits, members have unlocked the secret to what basically constitutes as immortality. While they’re pretty similar to humans when it comes to the first 26 years of their lives, after they reach full maturity aging almost completely halts. This modification, along with the historic ruthless culling of weakly adapted members, has brought them to a plateau they call “genetic perfection” for their environments. They don’t die of old age, and they don’t die from “natural causes” and other variant diseases. This being said they can still die from unnatural interference, such as being poisoned, decapitated or loosing too much blood(which is purple btw!).

Andromedans have a dense skeletal and muscular structures. While this makes internal injuries such as broken bones and bleeding rare, and gives them an advantage with melee sorts of weapons, it makes them incredibly heavy. Even the lighter members of their race typically weigh more than the average human male. For their weight they’re agile, but you’ll be hard pressed to find one comfortable twirling and jumping around... or for that matter comfortable in deep water, seeing as their density makes them sink like a rock if they don’t have something else to help them float.

In dark light they can see with the visual perception of an earth feline. For smelling, their acute sense of smell puts them on par with a terran wolf. You can even compare their hearing to that of an owl. However, having enhanced sensory perception is also a hindrance to Andromedans. Subsonic sounds make them incredibly sick, inducing vomiting and nose bleeds easily. Both sub and hyper sonic noises cause them to lose their ability to balance properly, causing them to stumble drunkenly at best and be lay them completely out at worst. Incredibly bright lights make them sneeze and cough a good deal and long exposure to bright light gives them lasting headaches, this is made many times worst at night, when a bright light shone in their eyes can leave them blind for several minutes. This is only an issue with earth made, artificial lighting, but since it’s practically everywhere, it’s a huge pain. Strong smells and tastes can cause migraines, blindness and vomiting as well.

Returning to their dense muscular structures: Andromedans are incredibly strong compared to humans, but this strength comes with a drawback. They need a minimum of several decades worth of training to properly control this strength. It’s ridiculously common for young ones to hurt themselves doing what should be ordinary everyday tasks. Throwing a baseball too hard could easily result in dislocating several joints in the arm, gripping a glass a little too hard can shatter it and send shards flying all over the place, or embed them in the hand. If they’ve never been around humans, or lack a good understanding of how relatively squishy humans can be, this can lead to breaking hands during handshakes or winding someone with an ill placed pat on the back.

For the blessed elite, they have been gifted with the ability to fly. They can hide these magical wings through various ways. Though andromedans are still dense and heavy, various divine magics help to keep them aloft in the air. This being said, it’s still challenging for them to fly into an opposing air current. They fly best with a backing wind or a supporting current to help them glide, otherwise even the best fliers tire after a few hours of air time and need to land for rest. While andromedans are very warm creatures, flying higher than the atmospheric ice point will frost their wings over and cause them to drop like dead weight. Without special preparation, they aren’t able to breath well enough to sustain consciousness in altitudes higher than 8,000 meters, like most other earth creatures. While flying they can’t generally pick up or fly well when encumbered with more than 220lbs. Due to humanity’s dependence on artificial light, and it’s disorienting effect on andromedans, it’s uncommon for them to fly at night unless they’re in a dimmer more untouched area.

Powers: Medic!: Raphael is gifted, in fact he is said to have been blessed by the gods in the case of his ability to heal. With a seeming incomparable swiftness, he’s able to identify ailments and apply the most likely cure. The sick patient has to be within a reasonable distance, five to ten feet. Any more than 10 feet away and he can’t use this innate ability. In crowded places this becomes hazy feedback unless he spends a great deal of effort concentrating on a single person. This is easier if he’s physically touching the patient.
  • Divine Healing: (Subpower) Raphael can heal internal and external injuries by laying his hands on the ailing. This is typically used to treat internal bleeding, cuts, breaks and blood clots. More serious issues such as needing an organ transplant are outside of this ability and the person will still need surgery. While laying hands on the ailing Raphael is connected to them in a sort of way, and can distinctly feel their emotions and other sensations. This can go both ways if the patient is perceptive enough. Due to his job this means he’s nearly constantly exposed to their suffering and fear. He can not avoid this through any means besides simply not using this power, and in his line of work that’s rarely ever an option.
  • Oath Breaker: (Subpower) Normally doctors on earth take the Hippocratic oath to never deny a hurt person in need and to hold themselves to a standard of ethics that bars them from using their authority and expertise for less than good means. Raph knows no such thing as a war medic. In the same vein of his healing, he can lay his hands on a person in order to inflict damage. A jab to a pressure point can leave limbs disabled for several minutes, a punch in the chest can cause palpitations and arrhythmias in healthy hearts, and cardiac arrest in weak and unhealthy ones. Really the sky's the limit when it comes to manipulating people’s health. He can't, however, instantly kill someone, and he must absolutely be within touching distance to use this power at all.
Psi Field: This tech is a bubble like shield that is deployed on the ground. It's primary use is to stop high energy high velocity projectiles from hitting it's user. It can be deployed in under a second and can be thrown like a grenade. It has a radius of approximately ten feet and looks like a clear bubble with a light blue double walled hexacomb web design. The Psi Field runs on kinetic power, meaning it absorbs kinetic blasts, shocks and strikes and converts the vibration waves into energy. It can be deployed forever if it keeps getting shot at. When not taking damage, the shield's power degrades at around 10% per minute, having a ten minute life. Once down the shield needs a full 60 minutes to recharge.

The shield has a drawback, however. It does not stop low energy or low speed projectiles; people can just walk through the shield and shoot/slash at him once they're within the barriers. Anything moving under 30mph (48kph) won't get stopped by the barrier at all. Blockage occurs from both sides of the barrier, meaning you can't make defensive return fire from within.

Biography:
  • Genetically engineered to be the ideal of a logical thinker, his fate was preordained. As a child his parents made certain to stamp out his need to be around others and pushed incredibly hard for him to be independent at any cost. He was taught to always question, and to not trust his emotional reactions to things. When in a social setting his parents punished altruistic behavior and rewarded a reserved, disinterested attitude.
  • Raphael has always been intensely invested in medicine and healing. He showed a proficiency with logic based puzzles as a young child and moved onwards into solving more complex issues. This was fueled by the desire to be “right at any cost” ideal his parents promoted.
  • He served the mandatory military service minimum, but chose to stay in active service as a medic in order to help push himself through higher education. He has served in three wars, the first being 500 years long, the second being 756 years long, and the final being the 300 year civil war.
  • He’s a decorated war time medic, as well as a respected scholar among his people, despite his civil status as an irredeemable exile.
  • When the civil war began, he chose to side with the rebels on the political issues of slavery and ethics, even against his parents’ intense disapproval of such things.
  • When the rebels lost and were violently exiled from their home territories, they went into hiding, fleeing and depositing refugees all across the galaxy. During this time, Raphael met his future wife, Aurora.
  • Whether it was through the shared experience of fighting in the civil war on the same side, or just the comfort of familiarity that was brought on by a shared banishment, they eventually became a couple. This eventually led to a low key private wedding and then children.
  • They arrived at the space station soon after hearing word that it opened, and got themselves a job at the academy as teachers. They’ve planted their roots on Manta Carlos Island and intend to stay.

Additional Information: Raphael’s wings are almost always hidden away. You can class him as an INTJ. He likes purple and green, but decries vivid yellows. He uses a universal translator, gifted by the S-5 immigrations department to fluently speak with and understand his earthborn students.
