Raiores arrives

Klef walked into the cafeteria, or at least that's where she hoped she was walking into. Life was rough with no sight, but it was not the end of the world. Weeks had passed by and she was using a stick that she found in the forest to get by. She headed over to the corner, it was usually abandonned. Small talk was awkward nowadays, especially since it almost always resulted in her adressing her lack of sight. By sitting alone, it was easier to waste away her lunch period without being pitied or getting even more bitter over her loss. When she sat down, something felt... off. The chances of someone sitting at her table were on the slim side, but it was always a possibility.

" Hey... is someone else here?" She asked. Though it sounded like an odd question, it was the only way she was going to find out that wasn't flailing her arms and seeing if it hit someone.

Klef raised an eyebrow at the stuttering boy. It was a slight disappointment that someone else was there, but she could make it work. Another friend wouldn't hurt, and he had yet to comment on her odd question, so he wouldn't be much of a pain either. " Oh, well it's nice to meet you," she said nonchalantly, fishing through her backpack for her lunch.

After a few seconds spent digging around, she retrieved a pack of pop tarts. " Want one?" She asked, holding up the shiny package, she wasn't quite sure if he had already ate, but was in a generous mood.

" I guess this is what ziplock was invented for, stale poptarts are the worse." She commented, taking out a toaster pastry and shoving the other wrapped one back into her backpack. It seemed like her appetite had ceased to exist after the virus, not that she minded too much, it certainly helped with her budget.

His name was Raiores and apparently he was new to Manta Carlos, like fresh off the boat new. She remembered back when she was in his shoes, what a total loser she was... not that anything had changed. Though her welcome wasn't quite as warm, Rai could very well be scared off without one, Starlight Academy can rather terrifying to someone who has never lived in Manta Carlos before."

" Name's Klef." She stated, tempted to extend her hand. " And before you ask, I'm a ninth grader here, still kind of a newbie I guess. It's been a few months since I arrived to this island."

" What about you? Are you in high school or middle school?"

" Call me crazy, but I'm sensing a déjà-vu here," She joked while shaking his hand, only a few minutes earlier, she was the one saying that, but it was nice to know that he was glad to meet her too.

" Middle School?" Klef repeated. This kid was older than she thought, but nevertheless a kid. It was a bit hard to tell the age of someone just by their voice, but that never stopped her from guessing. " ... to be honest, I really should be in the eighth grade too, but I skipped a grade here. Who knew ninth grade homework could be so hard?"

" You probably won't have much of a problem though." She told him, reassuringly. " As long as you've been to school at least once in your life it's not that hard."

" Boy, do I wish I could be in your shoes, it was a bit rough getting into the swing of things when everything I knew was by word of mouth." She commented. Klef didn't mind the silence, that's how it usually was for her at lunch since the virus. While it was awkward, it was a step up from eating completely

She stayed silent for a moment longer, asking about powers was the equivalent of asking about the weather around here. After contemplating whether to drop the B-bomb, telling him that she was blind that is, or just to deny ever possessing magic, she decided to go with the latter. "Nah. Not anymore." She stated, shifting her feet further. " What about you? Something must have brought you to this island right?"
