Following the information Kon gave her, Basté found herself looking for someone who has been caught before, but is certainly another victim of whoever is doing this impersonation. Alma was her name, and from the little she learned of the vampire-demon, she is a decent person. Having approached her at an earlier time, Basté simply asked if they could talk alone at the roof an hour after the sun sets, and it was about the rumors going around.

By now, Basté would be awaiting at the roof, having watched the sun set, a sight that was breathtaking and she had been unable to properly appreciate for a while. But now here she is, waiting patiently, eyes at her phone as there was a video of motorbikes to check meanwhile. "I hope everything is okay with Alma..."

Alma's brain wasn't in the best place lately. She normally wouldn't have agreed to come to some shady meeting like this. But it was on school grounds, she had let her boyfriends and mom know where she was going to be, and she at least knew that if she got in any real trouble her bracelet would deactivate and sh could get away. She knew how they worked.

The walk up to the roof was exhausting. She normally would have just flown up, but humans couldn't fly. She was still so angry and annoyed being forced into being human, even if she understood the logic behind it.

Her hand in her pocket and on her phone and ready to call emergency services if need be, she made her way through the door. Alma squinted at the growing darkness, unsure of whether or not Basté was there.

"Hello? I'm uh... here."

Even amidst the darkness, the phone was a little light to shine upon Basté's face, as she turned to look at Alma. "Oh, hi! Just a few seconds.", and it was indeed few, she only turned on her phone's flash to use as a flashlight for them, illuminating the roof. "My name's Basté, by the way. Sorry for the unusual meeting place, I just wanted the wind on my face...", no that wasn't all, clearly it wasn't.

"I heard about what happened to you from an acquaintance of ours, and he is going through the same thing. I honestly believe in your and Kon's innocence in this case, specially given what reaches my ears. If you want a change of scenery, we can go somewhere else you are more comfortable or feel safe at to talk about it too.", she didn't approach Alma, wanting her to make such decision herself.

"Here is fine..." Alma said kind of passively, brushing her flat brown hair out of her face. In the light, Basté could see that Alma looked nothing like the pictures that were in the yearbook or online. No shine or volume to her hair, no healthy sheen in her olive skin, dull brown eyes. Plain, human Alma.

"I uh, walked all the way up here. My legs are tired so. This is fine." Alma sighed and leaned back against the wall. Her legs did actually hurt from the climb. Had she always been that weak? She couldn't be for sure. But what Basté said sounded promising. "You know something? Could it help clear me?"

And more to the point, she thought to herself, get the damn bracelet off of her ankle. "I mean I know I'm innocent. I'm not violet by nature. Violence is an idiot's response when they don't have a real argument." Alma gave one of her favorite talking points, but it seemed to pack less of a punch without her usual demonic flair and confidence.

"I understand. This wasn't the best meeting spot then, I suppose.", instead Basté sat down a fair distance from Alma, just so her personal space wouldn't be violated. With a nod and few words, she reassured a few things: "What I know so far is still limited, but I feel that you will be the key to this mystery, and with you also lies the key to your freedom."

From what she was saying, Kon was more than right. Alma had a good mind for the right, and her words were well-selected for that. "That's why I assume whoever was at the protest... Couldn't have been you. And more: you were "arrested twice" at that, once at the protest and once at home, and there's a major clash of information there that leans in your favor.", Basté made a brief pause, letting Alma reflect.

"Here is my theory: while Doppel-Alma, as I will refer to the impostor, was at the Citizens Against Evil got recorded and arrested, you were somewhere else entirely. Doppel-Alma was released because the video wasn't an evidence convincing enough, and from my understand Doppel-Alma was wearing a nullification bracelet.", her arms crossed, a finger rhythmically tapped against her arm.

"Assuming that's what happened, it then leads to the second arrest, which makes things odd: you were at home, without the nullification bracelet. Seeing you have it on right now, seeing you complained about walking here only adds to the assumption that you couldn't have possibly used it before. Which leaves me with one question: What is your alibi for the day of the protest? Since you weren't there, you must have been somewhere else."

Alma scrunched up her face, immensely confused by the logical path that Baste was using. She opened her mouth to speak, but faltered and shut it once again. She didn't have her aura pushing her to say what was on her mind and so she was distinctly afraid of sounding stupid. Had she just missed something about what the other girl had said that actually made sense?

"I... what-?? Hold on," she finally managed, rubbing sheepishly at her arm. "Of course I've never been in a human capability charm. Those are pretty much reserved for..." She faltered. Criminals was the word she was looking for, but if that was true what did that say? Was she a criminal? "A-anyway... how do you know what the... the other me had on when she was in police custody? They might have not put her in anything if they thought it was me; they might have- I don't know..."

No that sounded stupid. They definitely would have put her in power null cuffs at the very least. How did the other her manage to get away then? Alma couldn't fathom it and it just made her head hurt to think about. "Sorry. I'm just... not quite myself lately. I don't have my usual..." she cut off before anything else, frowning heavily.

"Criminals, you would say? Well, not always. Under special conditions some people under investigation are allowed to continue to exercise their duties, but are required to wear a tracking shackle, or to follow a set of restrictions. Doesn't always mean they are guilty. But me knowing how Doppel-Alma must have had the bracelet is simple: they saw you without it, they immediately assumed you took it off through illegal means, arrested and placed a new one.", she explained without missing a beat, but soon came to understand why Alma was a little at loss.

"Oh... Well... I can imagine how much it sucks, to be stuck with something limiting you, taking away what makes you be. And once we resolve this Doppelganger Mystery, I'd like to see your true self, I get this feeling you are amazing.", Basté, could feel for Alma's struggle, having herself grown used to her own aspects, and was more than eager to see what Alma was physically really like.

"And, well, back on the subject... What do you remember of the protest day?"

Alma was still a little... confused by everything Basté was saying. It didn't help that she seemed to be talking faster than Alma could actually keep up with at the moment. Another artifact of what she wasn't able to do at the moment.

"Yeah, uh... well I was at the protest. I helped organize it after all. But once everything was in full swing and I wasn't needed to drum up the support, I went home. My mom wanted to spend the day together."

Alma's cheeks went a bit pink at Basté wanting to see her true self. She waved a hand dismissively, adding, "I'm not really anything special. Just not so... plain." Gods it hurt to say out loud. But she said it.

"Uh right. Anyway. I mean I think they arrested me at my house cause I supposedly escaped custody. Which is, ya know illegal in it's own right. Like you can't just leave when you're under arrest."

Basté made a mental note of that: Alma having left the protest once it was at full swing and spending the rest of the day with her mother was a good alibi. A smirk and a nod of satisfaction were how she reacted to that. Only way that could be better is if witnesses confirmed that, but at least now they could contest the video.

"Hey, don't say it like that, Alma. Everyone is special in their own way. No exceptions.", catching her phone, she got up and went over to Alma, resting against the wall a few feet away from her, "I know, heard my mother talk about that once. But with such a case the investigation seems to be a bit lacking out there, which is also concerning. They better not be trying to hide something."

"Wh- I... What?" Alma was baffled. Truly, just completely baffled. She glanced sideways at the smirking Basté, her own face scrunched up in something like confused disgust. "Are you suggesting that the Manta Carlos police... is doing something shady with all of this? What even..."

She didn't have her confidence back by any means, but this was too much. Alma pushed off of the wall, hugging herself with her arms in an almost protective stance. "What on Earth makes you even think to go in that direction? You can't just make wild accusations with no grounding and wait for something to stick."
