Nakata was already in a foul mood that day. He had recently received a call that his uncle Kuromaku would be sending a number of operatives to the school to both better themselves and to keep an eye on him.

His uncle had always been stingy on information but it was told throughout the family lines and in werewolf society that he was a legend among the Hakken tribe of werewolves that were part of the beast courts of Asia, but also in the entire Garou nation. He was the CEO of a company unaffiliated with the Yakuza and had already broken down barriers of millenia long hatred and battle between werewolves, vampires, demons, wraiths, kuei jin, and many other changing breeds beside the wolves. The star gazers even saw a future in which he would be legend for yet more millenia to come though the nature of this was still uncertain. He had been banished to the umbra for seven years and had come back unparalleled and the spirits and kami spoke of the defeat of an incarna of the wyrm who had bequeathed him with the knowledge of a lost martial art and the weapon inherent in it, making him a spirit teacher and one who had already adopted a protege at that. All of these things were fine and well but the thing that pissed Nakata off the most was that he was pretty much helpless to challenge his uncle's desires at any given point due to the fall back it would cause for earthly concerns.

His mood wouldn't normally be a concern to anyone else but today was his first day teaching at his former school, and he was set to organize a set of tests to evaluate the students and properly place them for power related development. As such the first was meant to be an obstacle course so to speak. His mood meant that the difficult had just gone up, though at college level one could assume that students should have been able to handle it. First he began weaving the pattern of the room so that once inside it could quickly become a highly enlarge environment using the spheres of matter, prime, and spirit to change the size of the gym, weave in the gaps in the pattern, and extend the physical area of the training ground into the umbral realm respectively. This would give him the chance to make the place seem more lethal. He left gaps in the pattern of the spells he weaved so that he could accommodate the individual powers of the students. First student to perform well on the obstacle course would get 1 star if they could finish.

Phase 2 of the testing was situational adaptation. He would be weaving patterns around the students to change the environments they were in, forcing them to use innovative methods for their powers in which he would constantly switch them from mountain, to forest, to tundra, to oceanic environments to determine how well they could protect themselves from the planet itself. 1 star would be earned from successful survival and students who couldn't handle any part would be removed and sent to the infirmary.

Phase 3 of the testing was a tournament between students though the nature of the judgement of such would be based on the student's performance not necessarily on if they had won or lost. Thus a student who had managed to lock down an opponent on multiple occasions before finally being defeated, or one that managed to somehow gain the edge but had made a simple mistake and lost would still be able to earn a star. Students who both performed well and won would earn two stars from this phase.

Finally phase 4 of the examination would pit the students, with their injuries, into teams which would then be forced to fight a clone of Nakata which he would create using the spheres of life, matter, prime, forces, and mind to imbue as a weakened version of himself. Students who performed well as a team would earn 1 star if they lost due to a mismatch in the compatibility of their individual powers while students who both worked well together and won would earn two stars.

This end of the exam would leave students with a rating of 0-6 stars. Ideally this would allow them to both reflect on how they could better themselves, and arrogant students might get knocked down a peg. While it wasn't ideal, he hadn't planned on being a teacher in the first place but found himself needing to do something to escape the monotony of the Yakuza world. This would be it, and as he remembered back to his power teachers, he couldn't help but consider himself lucky to be able to continue their education based on what they had so generously given to him.

When he finally felt the gym was suitable, Nakata left, allowing the students to take their places in about an hour. With a wave of his hand he hid the course so no particularly perceptive student would get a sudden unfair advantage... and for the dramatic affect of being able to wave his hand again and make an obstacle course appear. After all, as a teacher a show of mysterious and intriguing possibilities was a must in order to keep students engaged.

Nakata noted the first student to walk in the class. He'd spent so much time trying to set up the gym that he hadn't bothered to profile any of the students.
"Damn i should have made sure i knew more about the people participating." He thought to himself. As it stood he only had a roster with names and no way to just figure out which one she was without using any spheres.

Looking around he waited as several other students filed into the gym, some came one at a time, others came in large groups, and still others came in pairs but by the end there were about 20 students in total in the gym. It occurred to him that for some, the obstacle course might end up being easy, and for others it could be impossible. As the twenty second student filed in Nakata walked down to the bottom of the bleachers to address the class.
"Welcome students. Before we begin I'd like to talk to you about the basis for this class. He said as he considered making a visual aid but decided against it in favor of saving intrigue more for the beginning of the contest.
"Your training and the focus of improvement for each of you will be based on a star rating from zero to six. Should you manage to fail each tests completely you will earn zero stars which will lead me to recommend you for remedial classes at the high school or lower level depending. I doubt any of you will earn that fate so we will continue.

He didn't want to scare the students on the first day, but by this point any of them should have been able to earn one star even if they just hid during the tournament competition. Still there was the matter of making sure the students understood the nature of their placements.
"one to two stars will be given curriculum to help develop control based on a cognitive function called 'personal reality'. You'll take one class on Saturdays dedicated to helping you develop further. Two to three star students will be given curriculum based on learning more control or output potential. Four to five star students will be placed in a class teaching the fine tuning of powers including motor control, kinetic dissonance, and psychic noise reduction. Finally six star students will receive an exemplary mark and be given the credit in this class for free without having to participate in any of the curriculum.

When he started this he hadn't intended for his speech to be this long winded. Nevertheless the finale approached. As intended, he waved his hand and the gym expanded to about thirty times it's regular side. Floor boards seemed to just stretch and the walls moved apart. he quickly swallowed blood, a sign that the forces of reality were not in support of the way he had punctured the tapestry and that his mortal body was using a spell that was not truly meant for mortals. Maybe this was why there were almost no students with the ability to warp or effect reality.

As the final changes were made the gym became an insane (and quite deadly looking) obstacle course. There were pits filled with spikes, statues on pillars armed with bows, rubber balls from which one was to bounce in order to reach another one and another before finally reaching the other side, swinging axes, and several stages therein with other unknown challenges. There were hurdles and walls of rock with water running down them, giant leaps with nets, and a salmon pole. The whole stage was a mix of ninja warrior and death race.

"This is your obstacle course students. Anyone who wishes to leave now may withdraw from the class, but will not be unable to gain power through class." He offered.

Now what Nakata didn't tell the class was that the deadly looking obstacles were enchanted and nothing would happen besides them being knocked of the side or splattered with paint, thus earning no star. No A for effort in this course, it was all about skill, precision, intelligence, and putting it all together.

"Now if you're ready come down here and give me your name and you'll be given an identification number."

Damien wasn't the first but definitely in the top ten people to have left the bleachers first. only two students left the class and that wasn't going to be him. Though he didn't believe that he needed any training, his goal here was to learn as much as he could and the thought did occur to him that he could gain something positive from this event. The instructor didn't seem to be lacking in mental faculty... besides that he was quite obviously crazy for putting college students through a death race.
"There has to be some sort of trick."
"Reality deviant detected. Stage comprised of modifications to reality akin to the council of the nine. Reality deviant detected as male, age twenty two, silverhart systems name him as-"
"Scan acknowledged, deactivate any combat protocols based on previously assessed standards. Cognitive application of systems active as of now. Damien responded mentally.

As he approached the teacher he held out his student ID as others had done.
"Damien Kusanagi." He said simply. Mr. Ishikawa nodded toward him and gave him a cloth with the number "27" on it before gesturing to the other students who had taken position by the starting line.

Nakata looked at the girl and smiled.
"I figured there would be at least one who would say that." He said, his smile turning into a grin.
" Obstacle courses have existed for as long as human kind has. Where once it was simply rough terrain it has become something of a sport to compete. I didn't make the course with the idea that one needed flashy powers to get through it, I created it with the notion that the power to make it through exists in determination and sheer resolve. I believe you can do it, and if you can't there are many other portions of this test on which I'm sure you'll do very well." He explained.

In truth he had conveyed similar information to other students who felt the same way. Doubt was a natural part of life and the only students out and out excluded would be the ones that simply left without confessing, due in part to the fact that doubt with an overabundance of pride often led to the downfall of many.
"If you give me your name I can assign you a number and you can use the course to gauge yourself. At the end of it I will ask you what score you think you deserve and we can go from there." He added, making his advice to the girl more personal as he had not said anything of the sort to any of the others.

————————————————

Damien stood on the dais with the other students who had decided to participate. He overheard some of them talking about strategies to get through the course, but he had nothing to operate on that wasn't his own, and he refused to use any of his equipment on any part of this course.
"Maybe if we work together we can make a chain at that part." Said a girl among a troupe of four who pointed to the gap where the jumping balloons were.
He acknowledged the validity in that strategy but counted one factor that had overlooked.
"That only works if all of us make it that far!" Said one of the girls with a very crushed and worried look on her face. That of course was the detail that he had fixated on. Their banter, while unfocused, had given him an idea of his own.

He turned back to look at the instructor who's last name struck a particular cord. He also saw the girl talking to him. With his new plan in mind he walked right up to the girl talking to him and started to pull her along.
"If you're as unsteady as the rest of the students I have an idea." He whispered to her.

Nakata looked at the students who had decided to stay. Part of him wanted to give them a star simply for managing to stick around but he couldn't just do that at this level.
"Alright all students are set to go." He said as he checked over the roster, assuming the two that left were already on his list. He had expected one more late arrival based on information that he'd gotten, but shrugged and decided that the show must go on.
"The rules are simple. Make it through the obstacle course and you earn a star. Even if you fail here you are reminded that there are still more tests after this one that you may take to get your composite score." Any of the students who's powers were registered in full would be listed on his tablet and he monitored the class carefully. Each of them would need to display their own unique skills in this test but using too much power here would mean that they would have trouble later.
"You may all start at the same time or at your leisure. You have until the class is over." He said as he took his seat. He had designed it to look intimidating, but the students were in no real danger. Nevertheless he hadn't exactly cleared his methods with the head mistress and it would be a pretty tough environment if she walked in and saw what was going on without the proper explanation. Then again, how often did she come to visit classes?

————————-

Damien listened to Lady's words but he wasn't quite sure how she would be able to boost his cybernetic enhancements. Still he had faith she'd be fine.
"That's still a power. I have no intention of using powers to get through this course though. Look at the course." He said as he motioned to the individual aspects of it.

First pointing at the swinging crescent blades at the beginning he started:
"The timing on the blades in cliche, if you can just limit the pace at which you go through them you should be fine, beyond that if we work together I can toss you onto the pole the blade is hanging from and you can simply walk across." He then motioned toward the section of poles topped with armed statues.

"The base of the statues don't appear to be ubiquitous which means that staying on one side looks like it completely protects you from the other, in addition by hugging the base of the statues we can walk around the edge and stay behind them without having to deal with the arrows." He stopped there because those were the only ones he had been able to rationalize thus far but the point he was trying to make was clear.

"It's almost as if the obstacles have been created specifically to test your ability to assess a situation under duress rather than as an actual test of power. That being said, does administration typically let college professors put students at risk for death in classes?" The final question was something that also perplexed him. The whole idea of the test had seemed ridiculous.

Damien headed to the course next to lady. His own suspicions led him to the conclusion that the test wasn't what it seemed. He walked slowly up to the stage at the beginning of the course and shook his head. This wasn't going to be pretty to watch.

He quickly decided that he was gong to wait and watch the first group of students.
" I agree with you." He said as he walked up next to Lady in time to watch the first group of five students. After the first one ran through the axe blades, the other four ran with him. The fifth student didn't make the second swinging axe and just as the first guy cleared the fourth and final axe, the last student was sliced in half and carried over the edge, the pieces landing with a thud. Though none of them used any apparent abilities, an alarm went off accompanying the student's demise, Damien's directional scanner went off the second the axe connected.
"Reality deviation detected. Illusory effect confirmed, class 3 mental contamination detected, attempting to correct.... process failed, initiating construction reconstruction of reality deviation to overlay current mental contamination.... process failed, suggested action: autocognitive dissonance. The AI system indicated.
"Disengage directional scanning systems. Password release required." He ordered mentally.

"I'm pretty sure that's an illusion. I have reason to believe that the students here have affected so that we would see students dying and freak out." He stated flatly, clearly unhappy with having been affected by an illusion.

———————-

Nakata watched as the first student was knocked out, falling harmlessly to the mats he placed at the bottom of the course. She seemed upset but he calmly walked up to her and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry, everything is okay dear. You did well but watch the rest of your classmates. I promise you'll learn." He said, as he laced his voice with as much of a calming effect as he could.

————

The rest of the students were freaking out badly. Some of them handled their fear with spartan resolve though were still visibly shaken, others were tripping over themselves and three more students ran off of the dais, dropping the class then and there, and a number of others seemed to be mostly unaffected by it. One student simply flew up and over the axes, landing on the other side with no ill effect. A girl walked THROUGH the axes, phasing through them as if ethereal. A boy disappeared and reappeared on the other side of the axes and time skipped a beat as another simply appeared on the other side, sweating heavily.

"Are you ready?" Damien said as he looked at lady. He considered using his abilities for her but wanted to see her resolve. He knelt down and motioned for her to climb onto his back.

Damien waited until lady was comfortably on his back and then held his hand in front of him an flexed it then closed his eyes. It was the first time he had activated his cybernetic enhancers since coming to the school.
"So how are we going to go about this?" She asked.

"I'm going to activate my cybernetic enhancers, it will boost my strength by a fairly good amount and my subdermal armor will be able to take the hit without getting too much damage from the axe. That being said If you were so inclined to use your power I have no idea what effect it will have but I'm going to try to power through." And with those words he stepped forward into the path of an axe as it swung down toward him. With eyes still closed he extended his hand, focusing on his balance and locking his elbow to help him steady as the blade grew ever closer each second.

————————

By now a large number of students had been knocked out but Nakata had managed to get all but two of them to stick around for the next test. He watched the students that were still in the obstacle course, allowing the others who had not passed to take a break and recharge. There were still ten students ready yet to go and while he was sure he had earned their enmity, it wasn't such a big deal to him. He was here to make them stronger and teach them to control their abilities, not be their bff. Then he noticed the student standing down the blade with the girl he had spoken to on his back. He hadn't really expected someone to just take a blade, but he watched with interest at the result, refusing to interfere in any way.

The axe blade swung down and Damien felt his hand get shoved. Lady's powers hadn't enhanced his strength any further, but it had enriched his chi. He felt as though he hadn't lost any of his spirit force. In fact as the axe blade connected he simply charged more chi into his cybernetic enhancers until he finally did feel as though he had lost the smallest bit (one point). When the axe blade went to push his body, he simply pushed back as soon as his elbow bent from the force. As a result the blade lost momentum and was unable to move back against him effectively. He marched forward, this time with his forearm bared as he braced it with his off hand. As the second blade hit he simply continued to walk, taking the hit like he would a kick and then continued to do so to the next two axes.

After he was through, the axes had all stopped moving and were hanging limply. They could easily be crawled beneath or moved aside. The next obstacle was the arrow and Damien decided he might go all out so the others could get their score as well. Most of the ones that were left didn't have physical abilities and the ones that did were timid about using them or had no control over their effectiveness. The thought occurred to him that he would just be carrying people through the test, but he also wasn't sure what the other tests were going to be.

His arm bore a black material beneath his skin and it was obvious his skin had been mostly removed. His subdermal armor was revealed but he activated his nanobytes to heal the damage, cell size robots began knitting the flesh back together, another expenditure of chi (one point) replaced all of the skin that had been torn off with fresh epithelial cells and he reached down to removed his striker pistol from the sheath.

"I'm going to clear this course for you and the others. As long as you can keep this up I can probably waste the power." He said.

———————————-

Nakata watched the test shaking his head. Only four students had made it to the end of the test by themselves or each working together. ten students had been removed from the test and two of those had left the class altogether, and now seven other students would be passing based on that one. He hoped that some of them would pitch in but if it was the girl on his back that was causing him to just blow through the course. Regardless he allowed it as he hadn't specifically said that they couldn't just follow one guy through.

——————————————-

The next part of the obstacle course had pillars with statues that held bows in front of them. Each statue fired an arrow one of which missed naturally while the others struck his chest, deflecting off the subdermal armor but tearing the flesh again. He ignored the damage and raised his pistol as a kid ran past him in a blur of speed for about two seconds before stopping to extremely slow pace for two seconds and then speeding up again.

((OOC: hey kyros you can control any of the NPCs that you want too or maybe boost them or something if you want :).))
