People often failed to think about simple rules. Things like posters on the school walls were just considered part of everyday life, and people didn't consider that there was an entire set of policies and procedures for who got to put them up and when. Clubs had to let the school know, as did individuals. You couldn't just slap your posters up on the wall and expect them to stay up. After all, the school did have to screen for appropriateness.

Anastasia was doing solid work - both putting up her own posters (which were, while she'd never admit it, rather boring and to the point), and removing those that had just slapped their own posters up on the wall without getting school approval.

At least she was doing something, although she was starting to doubt her chances. Most of the other people running had already been elected once, and the few newcomers had all been on the island longer than her. If someone more new than her was running, she hadn't noticed them. It seemed less and less likely she'd be able to make it anywhere in the elections.

Pryderi wasn't much for holding office. He didn't really care about having that sort of responsibility. Though he did respect those that did wish for it a little more than the average person. To go forward up against numerous candidates, to make the effort to make yourself known, it had to be a lot of hard work. There was nothing wrong with hard work. He himself tended to his studies with it though one wouldn't think so if they ever just happened upon the man who seemed to have his head in the clouds most of the day.

The hallway felt cluttered with people trying to hard to be flashy, to bribe people into liking them, propaganda overall. Most of them were like that and to Pryderi it only showed him the sort of people they were. He didn't feel like he wished someone to be on the council who did not take their job seriously and honestly. Popularity contests were never something he supported.

To his surprise there was a gem among the lumps of rock and while it did not glitter as brightly it was unique. The straight forward poster caught his attention and had him starring at it for a bit longer than he'd intended. His mind warped the image into his memories as he recalled posters of similar nature on the walls of an old building where he'd grown up. Surrounded by propoganda and advertisements there had been a single poster that gave him hope that the world wasn't filled with people who all thought in a hive-mind sort of fashion.

Unique minds were always so appealing.

His narrow eyes turned their gaze toward the one placing up those posters and he observed her closely. Staring at her a moment as if she were some sort of princess from a land across the sea from his own. Though he approached her as if she were obtainable still the same. "You are running for office?" It was a simple enough question, but every conversation had to start somewhere.

She was in the middle of pressing up one of her own posters (with specifically approved double sided tape that wouldn't risk peeling paint off) when someone approached her. She glanced sideways, finishing sticking up the corners before pulling back from the wall, a stack of posters held against her chest by one arm.

The other hand was free, so she stuck it out for a handshake, deciding that a formal introduction would probably be a net positive. Possibly the boy - man, really, since he did appear to be older than her - was running for student council as well. She suspected he wasn't, or that if he was, he hadn't officially announced it yet. He was so pale that he was awfully recognizable, and she was certain that if she'd seen him before (say, signing up), she'd have recognized him.

"Yes, my name is Anastasia Mikhailovna Usenko. I have chosen to run for auditor on the student council." Or secretary, or treasurer, she supposed. She wasn't particularly strict on what position, beyond 'not one of the presidential seats'."Are you also running?" In retrospect, the introduction seemed a bit silly, since if he'd already seen her posters, he'd already know everything she just said, including that she was running on a platform of school safety.

The press of the poster drew his attention well. Silently he would wonder whether she'd chosen to use tape or putty to hold those posters steady. He wasn't sure if anyone used putty anymore. It seemed like a dying thing that only teachers used once and a while. He never really understood that when it worked so well. All in all it was just one of those things he supposed.

Pale eyes would hold their piercing gaze upon Anastasia. Taking note of the stack of posters she held as well as her general stance. It was correct to assume that most that saw him in passing would have a difficult time not remembering his almost offensive paleness, but people forgot things of course. It all depend on the person; some were just oblivious. Though he'd only recently become an addition to this place, a safe haven, somewhere he could be himself without fear of being hunted down once again. So it was very possible he had just simply not met this woman. He was certain he would not forget a name so lengthy and elegant. It sounded like the sort of name you'd only hear in a royal court.

"Nice to meet you Anastasia." He stated surprisingly casual for someone who was now imagining the young lady in a ball gown suited for a queen. A smile would ghost upon his lips as he made his own greeting, "Pryderi MacNee and I am not running. While I do respect those who have the drive to take up that kind of responsibility, I am definitely not one of them. " He admitted quite openly. "What exactly are the responsibilities of this...auditor...position you are running for?" He wondered. He wasn't nearly as familiar with the role as he was with others, but the only way to know was to ask--right?

It was a blessing that Anastasia had not been born with the ability to read minds. If she had, there would have been no way she'd could have been able to prevent herself from doubling over with laughter at the thought that her name sounded like something from a royal court. Everyone in Russia had a name like that - they all tended to be long, and everyone was supposed to introduce themselves with patronymics, so even a name like 'Pryderi MacNee' seemed terribly short.

She withdrew her hand as the introductions continued without it, shifting it so both hands were holding the stack of papers in her arm. She couldn't begin to guess what area of the world Pryderi was from, although MacNee was... Scottish? Irish? Somewhere from that part of Europe. Until she'd arrived on the islands themselves, she'd never before left Russia.

"The auditor serves as the checks and balances for the council. They essentially function as the level head of the group, making sure that proposals are fully considered. The auditor is also responsible for ensuring things are followed up on after the fact." It was a very general explanation of how things worked, but she could hardly be expected to go into exact details when presented with so general a question. "It's nice to meet you as well, Pryderi MacNee." She gave a little nod of her head. "It is an unusual position for the school to have, but it also makes sense to have it considering the amount of power that the president and vice president have. They are only students after all." The idea of a student council in itself was still a bit of a strange one to her, but she wasn't really against the idea either.

Pryderi had no idea what to do with the extended hand. There were very few people in his life that had ever offered him a handshake. Whether it was simply out of fear or because they didn't see him as someone they needed formal greeting with he did not know. What he did know was that he felt a little awkward when it came to touching people's hands. Other parts of them were fine, but hands were just a thing with him. He attributed it to the fact that he knew very well that most people didn't wash their hands as often as they should. Who knows how many times they scratched their butt in private. He barely managed not to shudder at that thought.

His hand would raise to make sure that his bendy straw was still tucked behind his ear and he exhaled softly the breath he'd held when he thought it might have fallen. His gaze would focus on Anastasia again when she began to speak about the position in question.

"That sounds like a lot of responsibility. I bet you'd have to be pretty good at standing your ground in the face of people who might try to slack off to have that position. How do you plan on making sure that things are followed up on?" He wondered. It was a normal thing to be curious over right? Especially when you intended to vote for someone. He'd already seen some of the tactics others were using and he couldn't really say that he could get behind people that used bribery. "You can just call me Pryderi or whatever makes you comfortable." he reassured the one he was certain he'd refer to as the royal from now on. At least in his head.

"Do they really have that much power as president and vice president?" he questioned, a little surprised over the possible fact.

Anastasia was good at standing her ground. Even if there seemed to be very little else good about her power, it was certainly good at standing her ground. Even if someone arranged for her to have an 'accident', it wasn't going to slow her down for long. Not that she really expected for someone to shove her down the stairs over student elections, but then she hadn't expected anyone to kill her parents, either.

Sometimes you had to prepare for the worst.

"I consider myself to be excellent at holding my ground. I am new enough to the school that I do not have an extended social circle that might sway me, but I am familiar enough with people to understand what is happening in power struggles and the like. While the auditor does not have as much power as the president, I suppose you could say that they have veto power. They can not directly just say no to something, but it is there job to make sure everything is thought out clearly, and then approach the appropriate school authorities to block anything that should not be enacted."

She paused to look over the boy a bit more closely, realizing abruptly that no, the colorful bits she'd thought were dyed hair weren't hair at all. Ribbons. Ribbons with... tiny bones in them?

"Are you from America?" It was the first place that popped into her head, as it tended to be. There were a good deal of American's running around, and it was the place she knew the most about outside of Russia.

Pryderi was starting to grow a certain amount of respect for this woman the more she spoke. The confident way she appeared, whether she was truly so or not, had earned that. She seemed knowledgeable about the position she was running for as well, which gave a definite boost to his views of her, and the likelihood that he would vote for her. he hadn't really given the others a chance yet and maybe that was wrong of him. However, he just couldn't bring himself to stop in his walking over a bribe. Maybe if they spoke about their plans instead of trying to lure people he might have taken more of an interest.

Perhaps he just wasn't really into politics enough to understand.

"Sounds like a rather dangerous position. Socially and otherwise. I fear for you if someone who is equally as stubborn and far more cruel were to get the presidential position. Who knows what they would do to try to keep your voice silent." he stated understanding at least the lengths some would go to in that aspect.

The question provided to him about his origins had him silent for a moment as he looked back to the posters. "No, I come from Estonia, but I have traveled far to escape that place. I do miss it at times, but not the people. Only the beauty." he noted with a light chuckle.

Anastasia actually smiled at the insinuation. It seemed that Pryderi MacNee had a similar train of thought to her own.

"I've met the woman I believe will be next year's president - we're joining campaigns to cover more ground as well. Morgan Ferris is also the current president of the student council, and seems to be very competent at the job." She didn't think that Morgan was going to try and backstab her. If she was... well, then she was a far better actor than anyone Anastasia had ever met.

Estonia? Anastasia's eyebrows went up. She was familiar enough with the general history, considering it had once been part of the soviet union, but that was only a vague, general sense. Like knowing how your neighbours were. You wouldn't know them as well as family, and Pryderi wouldn't be old enough to speak Russian, anyway.

"I see." She couldn't possibly say that she understood, because she didn't. She still missed her home, people and beauty. "The islands can be quite beautiful as well. You should go down to the docks sometime, if you haven't already."The vastness of the ocean could be breathtaking. She felt a sort of familiarity, if only from the fact that Pryderi was not yet another American, or yet another western European.
