Natasha sat on a wooden bench on the pier and quietly gazed out across the bay. It reminded her, in a way of Cardiff, she couldn't say why though. Maybe it was the feeling of her surroundings, the familiarity of it all, of the ocean waves hitting the rocks below and the smell of the wet ocean breeze moving in off the water. Whatever it was, it comforted her. It made her feel like she had done the right thing by moving from England to Manta Carlos even though she didn't know a soul on this mysteriously wonderful island. Never in her almost 250 years had she ever dreamt such a place actually existed.

Closing her light blue, almost grey eyes for a moment, Natasha felt the ocean wind suddenly gust strongly, blowing her long grey tresses across her face, smiling at this, she instinctively moved her hand up to remove her hair from her eyes before she opened them again. When she did, she began to notice others on the boardwalk, and couldn't help but wonder what they were feeling, if they were happy, sad, or just enjoying themselves. She really couldn't tell and it was a strange, but nice, feeling, she had decided to try a potion that muted her empathy and the "not feeling others emotions" was disconcerting as well as oddly relaxing.

Hearing a gull over head, Natasha looked up at the large sea bird, smiled, and cawed back at the animal, not exactly sure what she was expecting the animal hovering over her to do - heck, for all she knew, it might actually answer her back! Shivering a bit, Natasha pulled her dark blood red, almost black cape tighter around her shoulders, she was glad she had opted for a comfortable pair of jeans, a fitted grey cashmere sweater and her biker boots. It was almost summer, but not quite yet.

"And there you go! Just sign here, there, and over dere!" piped up Tengu as she holds out a clipboard to the funny looking boat captain. Today was but a blur to cybernetic harpy girl, darting off from address to address delivering parcels until at last she finds herself at the pier delivering the last package for today. Must of been an important one too to end on as she had to make the ship captain sign of on a whole bunch of papers! But now that he was signing off on the last page she was officially off of work for today.

"And thank you! Happy sailing to you sir!" chirped Tengu, giving the boat captain a mock salute with her wing. The captain in turn said nothing, instead turning back to hobble on back to his vessel. Tengu presumed that he must of have important matters to attend so she watched as the captain board his ship telling the crew to ready for departure. Tengu thought nothing of it for in her mind he was a satisfied customer since he didn't have anything bad to say about her!

With her own work done, Tengu spun around and spread her wings, the jet engines roar to life as her entire body lifts itself off the ground. As she readied herself travel at past the sound barrier, Tengu at the last second aborted her plans as she sensitive hearing picked up a caw somewhere in the distance. Her head jerk to the direction of the caw, her eyes trying to find the source of the call. With her view obstructed by ships bobbing in their docks, she hovered up to 15 meters in the air, then 30 meters before her mechanical eyes zoom in on a lonesome figure sitting on a bench by the peir with nothing but a few sea gulls overhead.

"Hey conscience? Is that person whom called out to me?" inquired Tengu to her own personal virtual intelligence unit in her head though to an outsider it would look as if she was talking to herself while hovering in the air. She waits for her "conscience" to go through its jargon and informing Tengu that the probability of acoustic disturbance emitted from the caped figure with a 97% confidence. She had... no idea what any of that meant and presumed that it all meant that they were the person whom let out the caw. "Oh thanks conscience! I'm going to ask them if they need help now!"

With her target in sight, Tengu angled her wings, her jet engines spur to life as she quickly darts just next to the mysterious person. Said person would perhaps feel a gust of wind as Tengu zooms just past her. As Tengu then tilts her large mechanized wings to create enough drag to slow herself, taking a few steps past Natasha. Balancing on one leg, she spins herself right around to face them face to face as she plants her other foot firmly to the ground.

"Hello I'm Tengu!" greeted the metal bird lady, whom then leans her head forward and asks

"I heard you call out for help? Cause I head you call out from... over... there-ish?" explained Tengu, reeling her head back as she points vaguely to a boat a notable distance away from where they currently are. Tengu shrugs, glances at the seagulls over head before looking back to the mysterious caped person to ask "Oh where the seagulls harassing you? Cause if those meanies are pestering you I can tell them go away!"

Natasha let out a tiny shriek, and almost jumped up from the bench, quite startled by the rather strange girl's sudden appearance in front of her, Nat wasn't used to being surprised by people. She had always been able to sense their approach before now. Obviously, if Natasha wanted to keep herself sane and not have everyone's emotions making her feel crazy and unsure of her own emotions, she would have to get used to not knowing when people would suddenly pop up beside her.

"I - I..." Natasha started sort of embarrassed by her reaction, and not sure what to say at first, "I am fine thank you." she finally said with a warm smile as she took in the girl in front of her... wings?... metal wings? she wondered to herself as she processed what she was seeing. The girl, Tengu, Natasha corrected herself mentally, chiding herself for mentally calling her "the girl", was unlike anything Nat had ever encountered before.

"And no, the seagulls aren't bothering me. I was just calling out to them, I didn't actually know I was calling for help or anything." Natasha admitted, slowly realising as she talked to Tengu, what she had most likely done.

"I'm Natasha, or Nat, if you prefer." she said with a little grin as she introduced herself to Tengu. "And I'm sorry, I bothered you. You were obviously working, no?" Natasha said as she eyed her with open, but friendly, curiosity as she gestured to Tengu's uniform.

"Ohhhh! Okey! I thought you were calling out for help in crow... MY MISTAKE!" admitted Tengu as she folds her wings back. As they fold back, tiny metallic fingers pop out from her wrists. "I was thinking that the seagulls were up to something but if they are not bothering you... well I guess everything is all okie-dokie then!"

After letting out a boisterous laugh, Tengu returns Natasha's smile with a great big grin of her own to her.

"Oh? Nah your not being a bother! I just delivered the last package of the day to the nice boat captain person not to long ago so I am officially off work as of now. Oh you can actually see him right over there on that ship sailing off. See him see him? The one with the funny old hat!" exclaims Tengu as she points out a ship just leaving harbor. Tengu then waves wildly to the captain of the vessel walking across the stern but the captain either did not see Tengu or ignored her. As the boat sailed off, then looked back to Natasha.

"Well he seems to be sailing off in a hurry. So your name is Natasha? Oh thats just the most wonderful name that I ever heard! Nat-tash-A! Hee hee... its so fun to say! Well my name is Tengu and... oh woops! I already told you that! Sorry bout that! I get really excitable when I meet a new face~"

“You speak crow?” Natasha asked quite surprised that crows had a language that people could actually understand – she had heard of witches talking to cats and other assorted animals, but she’d never really considered the idea that animals could communicate back. Maybe Tengu had a special ability that allowed her to understand animals and communicate with them?

Then, when Tengu retracted her wings and metallic-looking fingers appeared, Natasha began to fully realise that Tengu wasn’t just a normal girl with metallic wings – which Natasha had just sort of assumed were part of her delivery uniform before.

Distracted by Tengu’s boisterous laugh, Natasha shook her head at the craziness of everything she was seeing, and just pushed away any of her misconceptions about life. Obviously there were more things in existence than what Nat had ever known about. Life was certainly becoming interesting.

Following Tengu’s hand, Natasha raised a hand to shield her eyes from the glare off the water and saw the large sailing ship heading out of the harbour. Seeing the faint outline of the captain along with Tengu’s chatter about him, made Natasha smile, she couldn’t help but be charmed by Tengu’s friendliness and openness.

“Yes, I guess my name IS fun to say.” She admitted with a chuckle, her own eyes sparkling at the humour of it. “And how’d you guess I was new here?” Natasha asked as she patted the seat beside her on the bench wanting to know more about Tengu.

"It is isn't it!" agreed Tengu after Natasha's admission about how fun her name was to say, before continuing on with the rest of the conversation "Anywho, to be honest... I didn't know! At least until you told me. I was just saying that I just don't recall seeing your face but if your new that might be why I might not have seen you around. Delivering packages all day for years means I get to see all sorts of faces... and while I have trouble remembering... I never forget a face! At least I don't think I do tee hee!" explained Tengu.

It didn't occur to Tengu that Natasha was a newcomer to the island. At least until after she asked Tengu how she knew that was one so that ment the cat was out of the bag! That just meant that Tengu suddenly had a lot more to talk about to Natasha about since newcomers always seem to have a lot of questions... even if they are a bit unsure what to ask and whom to ask.

"Well... since you are fairly new on this island I would guess you have a lot of questions so maybe I can help you with! Questions about me, the island, the fancy academy, the city... anything really! So feel free and ask away! And for whatever I don't know, my conscience probably probably has an answer for you."

Tengu gave Natasha a kind smile, then notice her patting to empty spot on the bench next her. It took a moment for Tengu to process what the gesture meant.

"Oh! Its okey I actually prefer standing." Tengu then twists her body to show off her jet like tail sticking out from her backside, poking out right where her tailbone would have been. She then wiggles her tail somewhat though it would appear rigidly fused to her body. She turns her body right back around and gives Natasha a goofy smile.

"I appreciated your thoughtfulness but I really don't want to accidentally damage another public bench so... heh!"

Natasha looked a tiny bit confused for a very brief moment as looked at Tengu while she talked so animated. Natasha didn’t actually remember telling her that she was new to the island, but decided to let it pass because it wasn’t important. Tengu was a delivery person, and it was more than possible that she recognised faces, and Natasha wasn’t someone she recognized. Yes, that made sense, Natasha thought and decided that that was where the possible confusion came in.

“Oh, goodness, do I ever!” Natasha admitted with a little, almost embarrassed, laugh, she was very relieved when Tengu guessed that she had a million question about things on the island, and was more than willing to help Natasha out. “I almost don’t know what to ask or where to start.” she confessed.

When Tengu suddenly turned around to show Natasha the back part of her body and the jet tail sticking out, she let out a tiny, “Oh my…” in surprise. She had not expected that at all. She had sort of assumed that Tengu’s wings were the only reason she could fly.

“Okay, too right. Standing sounds like a good idea. In fact, let’s go for a walk and you can show me the town.” Natasha said as she got to her feet, feeling bad she had not noticed Tengu’s tail, and feeling awkward sitting down while Tengu had to stand.

“So, if you don’t mind, what, well, I don’t mean to be rude here, so you can tell me off if I am…” Natasha started, not sure how to ask this, “what exactly are you?” she asked the girl, “I’ve never met anybody like you. Were you born here on Manta Carlos?” Natasha asked, thinking that maybe Tengu was part of a race that only lived on the island and that was why Nat had never met anyone like her until now.

"A walk?! Oh sure! We can go an walk! I'd be happy to you around the city though if you want to see EVERYTHING... we going to be walking for months. If not YEARS!" exclaimed Tengu, she was not exaggerating that claim either! There was a lot to see in this one city. Sure there were the major destinations such as the park, downtown, and the academy but as you start looking at the nooks and crannies there is always more to see everyday! Even beyond the city, there was till the whole rest of the island to see.

"Rude? Oh not at all! In fact... I ask that question myself sometimes! Ha ha ha!" Tengu let out a chuckle, then paused as a tiny mechanical finger scratches her chin "Well... according to my Conscience, I'm a harpy! You know, a bird person? Not that its easy to tell am something like... 87% of me is mechanical? So I guess you could call me a mecha-harpy or a cyber-harpy?? That's what almost everyone calls me~ Anywho, there is not much left of original me... heck not much left of my original memories either. All really remembered was my name and... thats about it." shrugged Tengu as she goes on to explain what she was. Natasha wasn't the first person first to ask her what she was... and it was something she wasn't sure of herself. She was just Tengu... thats all she knew and all that she needed to know as far as she was concerned.

"Well I wasn't born here... that much I know. Where I came from... errr... your guess is as good as mine! The people who brought me here didn't have much to say who I was and whenever I ask my conscience about me he always says that its classified." Tengu then just shrugged and smiled to Natasha as she takes several steps out to begin their stroll.

"Alright, anything else you would like to say? Its going to be a long walk so keep the questions coming!"

"Well, maybe not everything then." Natasha said with a wide grin as Tengu explained it would take weeks or months to see the whole island. Maybe we can just start with the pier area or someplace else close by that you think is really cool or interesting." she suggested instead to Tengu. "I leave the decision in your capable hands."

"A harpy, cyber-harpy," Natasha said as she looked at Tengu with new eyes. Yes, she could see that now. She was surprised she hadn't clued into that earlier. Maybe it was the metal wings and jet like tail that had thrown her off. When she heard that Tengu had lost a good deal of her memories, she felt sad for her. It was always nice to know something about where one came from, at least that is what Natasha believed, although as Tengu talked, Nat realised that she seemed somewhat okay with not knowing.

"Your conscience? What's that?" Natasha asked curiously, wondering if she meant conscious - which was a rather strange thing to do. Although, Tengu seemed like she was rather special anyways, so anything she said or did now wouldn't surprise Natasha too much.

Natasha started walking down the pier, letting Tengu guide her, thinking about what to ask her. She had so many questions and decided to go with an obvious one. "Tengu, who founded Manta Carlos? And how old is it? I don't ever recall hearing about it or seeing it on any map in the outside world."

"Oh you know... the little voice inside your head!" chuckled Tengu "Its that little voice of reason that always remind you about the important stuff... like when to take your medication. Or check set up an appointment for a broken part. Everyone's got one of those right?"

Little did Tengu realize that the "voice" she was hearing inside her head was actually a virtual intelligence meant to assist Tengu whom she mistook to be her own "conscience", hence the source of the confusion. It never clicked in Tengu's mind that the voice she was hearing was in fact another entity existing silently within her head... leading to her assumption that everyone had British sounding voice in their heads as well!

"Anyway, whom founded Mantra Carlos you asked? Oh a nice old lady named... ummm her name was... hey conscience? Can you reminded me whom was the one who founded the island?" after a moments pause, Tengu stares blankly forward as she walks along side with Natasha. Her head slowly nods and then looks to Natasha as then asks another question to herself "Oh okey, what about the island? Its been around for how long?"

Another pause, Tengu listening to a conversation that only she could hear until her conscience explained everything that she needed to know.

"Oh thanks conscience! Okey so... technically the island... or islands rather have always been here but they were they were first discovered by pirates in like... the 1400's so who knows whom actually founded the island. The island always had a mysterious aura around it that made it really hard for people to find. It only became the way it has now thanks to a special lady named Cordelia Moor! She was the whom created the Starlight Academy in the 1800's to help those with unique abilities. Then the city then sort of grew around the academy until you see what is here today. So... while Cordelia wasn't the one whom discovered the island per say... she is the one responsible for what it is now. Pretty neat history right? Anyway, the reason why you don't see it on any maps in the outside world is probably because mysterious aura I mentioned earlier. Something about this island that hides its existence from the rest of the world. And the island's government likes to keep it that way too as they have like... secret agreements with the nations on the rest of the planet to keep quite about this place." answered Tengu, rolling her shoulders after giving her lengthy explanation.
