Pillow Fort Picnic

Hella stifled a giggle and set her food aside. She slid her arm around Aura, holding her not too tightly as she kissed her shoulder and then her cheek. "I think I kind of know what you mean. After my first boyfriend, I was scared of being rejected. I still kind of am." Things with Virgil hadn't seemed bad at first, but hindsight had afforded her a perspective on how shallow and harmful that relationship had been.

Pausing for a moment to think, Hella took the time to trace Aur'a jawline with the tip of her nose. Her voice dropped to almost a whisper, the best she could do to not let her worries show. "But you're fine, you know? You've got some baggage, sure..." she laughed quietly and kissed Aura again. "Me on the other hand, I'm basically nothing but baggage. I wouldn't blame anyone if it was too much for them to deal with."

Of course Aura's face called forth it's usual tinge of pink at having Hella kiss her cheek, but it really wasn't that she was uncomfortable. The truth was she enjoyed it, and that was really what brought the color to her face. Aura happily sat there with Hella's arm draped around her, comforting and protective feeling but not overwhelming the girl. In return she hesitantly started creeping her arm around Hella's waist

She listened carefully as Hella referenced a former boyfriend. It sounded like it hadn't gone well at all. It was a little heartbreaking to imagine whatever happened. But Hella seemed to like being with her so... was it wrong to feel like maybe things kind of worked out a little bit in the end? The affection was making Aura feel a little bit loopy so she closed all her eyes to just enjoy the closeness and joy of being able to relax with Hella.

"I um, don't think you know all of my er baggage...," she started, her voice dropping down to a whisper in solidarity with Hella's tone. Aura raised her head up and turned it to look Hella in the eyes. "I have um... worked through a lot of tough things to deal with. I can't promise I won't be overwhelmed but um, I don't know how anyone could reject you."

In an interesting bit of timing the playlist had cycled through to Bloom by The Paper Kites. A song about being vulnerable and wanting to get closer to someone but being a little hesitant or scared to put everything out there. Aura couldn't help but start giggling as she thought about the words. "I um, like being close to you Hella. But you don't have to share anything you don't want to. I know I have my own stuff I haven't worked up the courage to share with you." There, she'd said it. Aura took a break and then relaxed back against Hella. Giving her the tiniest, but still determined, squeeze.

"I don't want to get into a trauma measuring contest," Hella said with a wistful smile as she and Aura got closer to one another. "But I also don't want to feel like I'm leading you along and then..." And then have Aura leave her because she was a murderer, which in hindsight seemed like the bigger issue than the fact that she was pre-op. It had been the issue that had caused her to break up with Virgil after all.

She let Aura take her break, taking the time to scratch lightly at the scar on her right arm. It itched whenever she thought about the Islets, like an unconscious reminder. When they embraced again, Hella found herself easing into the intimacy more easily. She was less stiff, but maybe that was partly due to feeling like Aura wasn't as tense as she tended to be.

She inhaled slowly, gathering her courage and looking Aura in the eyes. "So, uh. The easy one is that I'm pre-op. The magic that makes me like this is just, ya know. Cosmetic. I didn't realize that would be an issue but it was with my ex and... yeah." And exhale. That wasn't so bad, right? Hella watched Aura's reaction, trying not to make her anxiety worse.

Aura's eyes widened as she worried that she'd accidentally made it into a contest. One which obviously wasnt pleasant or well suited to a date. But her expression then shifted a few more times as Hella pulled closer and continued.

In turn she looked confused, worried again and then pensive. Aura closed her eyes and squeezed Hella tighter to her as she took a moment to find the right words.

After a moment she opened them again and looked Hella softly in the eyes. Her hand resting on Hella's wrist. The same area that apparently both of them tended to favor when they were nervous. "I um, I'm not bothered by um... that. You are who you are and I like you um, regardless of...," her eyes flicked down and then she blushed as she realized what she was doing and returned to making eye contact.

Aura swallowed hard, this was unexpected but... well she was kind of better able to process this than some other people might. "You um, have seen me being male. I'm a girl but sometimes I feel more like a boy. I just um, can make things match how I feel. The body stuff isn't going to change my mind about how I feel about you."

"Yeah, I have," Hella replied to the topic of Aura sometimes being male. I just... I mean, I guess having one and your... partner having one are different? I just didn't want to blindside y- I mean not that I expect! It's just I haven't been in a lot of relationships..."

Hella buried her face in Aura's shoulder, hiding the intense pink on her face. This was embarrassing, but not in a terribly bad way. She laughed quietly and nuzzled her face closer to her neck. "I'm going to shut up now."

She laced her fingers in between Aura's, just taking the moment to enjoy being close to her. A mixture of embarrassment and happiness made her heart flutter in her chest.

Aura found herself sitting there holding Hella as the nervous words spilled out of the girl's mouth. For once it was someone else who was stumbling through words and getting flustered. She waited, letting Hella recover, a little before she replied. Her fingers wiggling just a little bit as they held hands. Of course the insinuation about just how exactly she would have been blindsided made Aura turn bright pink too but she tried not to let it get her too distracted. THis was about showing Hella she'

"I um, well I'm glad you had the courage to bring this up. It must have worried you a lot, not knowing if i'd get scared and run away or something." Aura turned a little so that they were facing each other more, curling her legs back around behind her as she moved. When Hella was ready to look up again she moved to rest her forehead against Hella's, with a soft and small but very genuine smile on her face. "I really um, like you. I think you're beautiful, and I don't um... just mean how you look.

Meanwhile the shuffling playlist seemed to have a really random focus as it played a couple Adele songs and even threw in Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold too. Aura herself seemed to react pretty noticeably to the frisson effects from these songs as she shivered despite not being cold. Or maybe it was Hella herself giving her the goosebumps, who knows?

Either way Aura then turned her head to the side a little and closed her eyes. Trying to go in for a very nice kiss but really nervous she was jumping the gun and maybe Hella was still distracted by body stuff and nerves herself.

Hella's own blush deepened as Aura pressed their foreheads together. She was so warm and she smelled really good. No wait, that was a weird thought, right? "It's hard, isn't it? Things you want to say because they're important for the other person to know. But you're afraid to because how might they react."

She was babbling a bit, her nerves and her embarrassment at making such a weird comment on their second real date. What if Aura thought she was a weirdo or that all she was after was- Hella's line of thought was cut off however by Aura's lips against her own. Her eyes fluttered shut and she leaned into the gesture, bringing her hand up to Aura's shoulder.

When she pulled back and opened her eyes, Hella looked her over with a small smile. She thought to herself that that kiss had been really nice as she rubbed Aura's shoulder a bit. "You're beautiful too. And kind. I really like you a lot."

Talking like this was helping build up her comfort with being this close. Being vulnerable was still odd to her, but she knew that she couldn't close herself off if she wanted this to work. The music helped, partially because some of it was just off topic enough to ease whatever tension she was feeling. Like the Dwarven song. Hella opted to go in for a second kiss like the one before, but she leaned too far and sent a wall of their fort tumbling down and part of the blanket roof collapsing on top of them.

Aura had been about to agree and say how she didnt want to freak her out either. But then the opportunity for the kiss arose as Hella was rambling and their faces were just so close... And it was totally worth the courage it took to take the first step.

She had closed her own eyes, with the eldritch ones following just slightly behind her normal one, and then her lips met Hellas and she forgot the worries about whether she would be ok with the kiss. For that moment things were completely simple. She liked Hella, Hella liked her, and they both were enjoying a kiss. Nothing else mattered and it felt warm and comfortable.

Aura sighed a little in happiness after they pulled back from the kiss and smiled back at Hella. "You're um, gonna make me permanently pink," she joked softly at the compliments. She still definitely blushing but it wasn't just embarrassment though. This "picnic" was the cutest thing she had ever done as far as she could remember.

As Hella moved to go in for another kiss Aura had a brief second where she was panicked. What was she supposed to do with her hands? She hadn't even thought about that when she had kissed Hella and now it suddenly seemed like an issue. Of course it didnt matter for very long.

Before Aura could fumble her way into receiving the kiss things started collapsing around them. As Hella leaned just a little too much into the approach someone's arm or leg must have snagged on the pillows or perhaps Aura had been pushed backwards. The exact events weren't super clear but the results were. Aura let out a tiny yelp and then she was laying on the floor with Hella leaning on her and a mess of blankets and pillows strewn about and covering them. Aura's hands had found themselves around Hella's waist.

"Ow... um, are you ok Hella?" Aura asked with a noticeable tinge of concern. She didnt try to get up though. Honestly aside from the sudden nature of the collapse it was kind of cozy among all the pillows and blankets. And Hella.

"I'm-" Hella couldn't help but laugh a little bit as the two of them collapsed together. This whole scenario was so silly, but it was one of the most pleasant things she had done in recent memory. She really wanted to cement this date in her mind for as long as possible. "-yeah I'm fine."

"Sorry, I promise it was an accident," she added almost jokingly as she nestled her cheek against Aura's collarbone. She realized how close they were now and her own face flushed, but she slipped her arms around Aura as well. "Then we'll be permanently pink together, I guess huh? I don't really mind, you look cute."

She carefully, reluctantly moved the blankets off of the two of them. Careful so she didn't collapse the fort further. Reluctantly because she honestly didn't want to let go of Aura right then.

As Aura had said, she was pretty much permanently pink at the moment. She couldn't blush much more without moving on to changing her hair color too. Which she supposed she could actually do but.. that was a little much. The compliments, the closeness, even the little bit of giggling laughter coming out of her mouth all would have been enough to make her blush on their own.

"I um... really liked holding you like that," Aura quietly admitted even as she reluctantly let go to help with the excavation of blanket and pillow. Really there wasn't too much to do. Just scooting the pile of pillows and blankets over off of them was pretty much it.

"Hey Hella," she said somewhat suddenly as she paused with a pillow in one hand. "Thanks for um, coming over to do this with me. I really love this." What else could she say? Aura wanted to curl up right there amidst the blankets, the pillows, and Hella's comfortably embraces.

So... well she kind of did that. At least halfway. Now that they were mostly uncovered Aura lay back down and looked up at Hella. Reaching a hand up to draw her back down too. Softer this time, and without the cascade of collapsing fort bits. Meanwhile the music had shifted again to a soft and beautiful piano piece (Reverie by Debussy).
