"And your parents just let you move out of your house?'

Shay was pretty certain parents didn't usually let that happen. Her parents would have never let her do that.

"Her parents let you move in?"

Tia gulped and looked at his friends nervously "Um, I'd rather not talk my mommy and daddy that much...but! She lived by herself so I didn't need anyone's attention!"

"Lived by...herself? how old was she?"

Shay didn't ask anything more about his parents, respecting his wish not to discuss them.

Shay had never heard of such a thing. She was truly perplexed. She stared at him, so many more questions in her head.

"I don't have parents," she blurted, unsure what else to say and hoping that might prompt him into speaking again.

" Why's that?! Everyone has a mommy! like, because if you don't where does the stork drop you off?! Or did you just get dropped off somewhere in the woods?!"

"I mean my parents aren't here anymore."

Shay gave him an odd look. How old was he? He still thought the stork dropped babies off?

Shay may not have known all the intricacies of sex and how children were made, but she knew enough to know that was how they were made.

"aww where'd they go?! And they should've brought you with them! Not leave you here!"
He was looking around as they were talking and examined the drawings in the mulch

The drawings Shay had made in the mulch were normal, crooked shapes. Squares, triangles. It was a nervous or bored habit of hers.

"I wish they had," Shay said lowly. "I wish they had taken me with them, but they didn't. So now I live in the orphanage."

"oh no" he looked down at his dangling legs and began to lightly cry, as time went on it got harder and harder, after sniffling a couple times he did his best to hide his face.
