Gryph just wanted to spend some time in the open air before tomorrow. It was a Sunday afternoon, so he was going to be teaching tomorrow and he just wanted to center himself beforehand - but no. The universe had to send him a kick up the butt.

He had been sat on a bench, minding his own business, doing some lesson planning on his tablet when a bird had landed nearby. A sparrow, if he wasn't mistaken. He had tweeted a greeting at the bird, who responded well, but something seemed to hit a nerve during their 'conversation'. Maybe it was the number of times he had readjusted his own wings, or maybe it was that the sparrow was in a sore mood, but now he was being attacked. He had been caught off guard as the sparrow pecked his arm - which he did not appreciate. Now, it was a matter of protecting himself. The sparrow was flapping around his head and making snapping noises, occasionally squawking at him, and Gryphon was having to try and protect himself with his tablet, which meant his fingers were getting rather scratched up.

"Stupid bird...!" He said, before reverting back to trying to reason with it, twittering rather loudly. He just hoped a student didn't come by and film him in this moment of stupidity.

Matty had gone to the park to see what Mugsie had thought about it, she was in her usual sporty gears of shorts and a shirt with a pair of flip flops. Mugsie was walking along side the ground next to Matty, looking about the place to see that it had it's share of trees and of course places for people to hang around. He didn't expect any squirrels like him, those didn't live around her but he thought other types might be around though he was scary looking compared to those cartoon looking ones.

Matty had also been looking around and as they came closer to a bench, she and Mugsie saw a man being attacked by of all things a Sparrow. Matty looked at Mugsie and he nodded, shooting forward in a dash and jumping onto the bench. He used his most fierce look to scare the bird away, insinuating that it'd be smacked if it didn't let up. Mugsie then got up on the top of the bench and motioned for Matty to come over. "Are you okay mister, Sparrows around usually like that. But you should be okay now, Mugsie scared it off" expressed Matty with a smile.

Mugsie stood next to the man looking at him and the tablet in his hands, he wasn't sure but he guessed it was work of some kind. He then jumped down from the bench and jumped up on Matty's shoulder, looking over to the man from his perch. "Hey there mister, I'm Matty and this is Mugsie" introduced Matty and Mugsie nodded at his introduction as well.

Gryphon saw the girl and her... very bushy tailed squirrel? Whatever, he had seen them but he was a bit distracted with the matter at hand - this sparrow had a terrible potty-mouth. However, he flew away. The avian man dropped his arms, holding the tablet in one hand, and when he turned to try and work out why, he saw the squirrel on the bench.

Huh. Persuasive creature, he supposed.

He turned to the girl as she spoke with a sheepish expression, "I'm used to mad birds, believe me. And sparrows are particularly edgy, but I don't know what set this one off. But I'm alright." He said, inspecting his fingers and making a face at the small scratches. Some birds were so touchy - but he took his mind away from that to look at the girl again, "Thank you, hun." He added with a small smile.

Gryph then met eyes with the squirrel. He was not sure what was going on there - whether it was a shapeshifter or sentient or what. His smile grew at their names, "Matty and Mugsie. You sound like you could be fighting crime together." He said, looking between them both. They were quite the pair, after all. "It's lovely to meet you." He didn't say his name quite yet though - because of her age. "Are you new to the island?" He asked, carefully. The avian man would have liked to have thought that he would remember a pink-haired girl accompanied with a squirrel, if they went to Starlight.

"You get attacked by birds often enough to get used to it" Asked Matty with a slight sideways look on her face, she turned to Mugsie who returned the sideways look like he was also a little confused. Matty then saw the man look at his fingers, checking how badly he was pecked on by that bird. But hopefully it wasn't too bad, though Matty only knew a little bit about first aid stuff but wasn't fully qualified.

The man thanked her, and she smiled in response "No problem, happy to help right Mugsie" added Matty and Mugsie nodded and did the squirrel equivalent of a thumbs up. Saying it was lovely to meet her made Matty rub the back of her head and the next question didn't help "Yeah, we've only just moved here. Thought we'd check the park out, I'll be attending the school soon as well" informed Matty with a sort of goofy smirk as she rubbed the back of her head.

Gryphon laughed with a little awkwardness at what Matty had taken from his words, "Well, no, not anymore." He still have scuffs and scratches on his arms from other birds in the past, when he was younger and still learning how to communicate. "I talk to birds often enough to know what they're usually like." Like smaller birds were generally kinder and more willling to help, for example. If he got attacked on a regular basis, Gryph was sure he would have found a form of protection by now.

Gryph smiled. This girl seemed very sweet, and it was always interesting to meet animals with a bit more character than usual. He made a sound of understanding when Matty spoke again though, "That's great." He said, feeling very sheepish. How could a kid take a teacher seriously when they first met by saving them from a bird attack? He gave her another smile, "If you're athletic at all, you'll probably see me around. I teach P.E. at Starlight."

Matty laughed a little under her breath when the man said not anymore, and then continued to state he talked to them enough to know what they're like. It wasn't like she could laugh at that though since she had a squirrel on her shoulder, which she often talked to as well. Though Mugsie was different in that he could talk back, so it wasn't all that strange however he didn't always do it when others were around. If he felt at ease or just wanted to play he might but he mostly kept it within the family, he often messed with the family dog as well.

Then the man expressed that if she was athletic, then she'd see him in school as he was the PE teacher. "Well I can't wait, I played basketball back home. Our team did pretty well and even traveled for tournaments, so you'll probably see me in class too. I'm also good at track and field as well, used to be with them and continued helping them out from time to time" informed Matty with a smile.
