Hiatus
Part of Ava's self-imposed training program to become more together and in-control of herself was getting over her fear of deep water. Sure, she could dislike water, but Ava didn't want to be afraid of it. Fear was useless and she didn't feel it about most things, water shouldn't be an exception. So, Ava had made it a habit to sometimes stop by the lake after school and take a little dip. It got her heart racing uncomfortably every time, but it was all for getting rid of her most annoying weakness.

Ava stood by the beach, not setting foot on the sand itself yet, and glared at the water like it had personally wronged her. And it had, in a way. All water had. But forgive and forget, right? No matter how hard that was for Ava.
"I'm not fucking scared of you."
Ava growled quietly at the water, and went ahead and stripped. Not completely, obviously, even if it would've been handier to just be naked, clothes got in the way of swimming. Ava was still wearing a sports bra and the short biking shorts she always wore under her uniform's skirt. She fucking hated skirts. And now Ava set her foot on the sand, intensely focused on keeping her heartbeat under control eyes on the water.

Marian should get a new hobby -- one that didn't involve people watching but no matter her experience with that, Marian could never learn her lesson. So here was Marian, sitting on a low-hanging tree branch, just a short distance away from the lake and her current fixation. She ran into this girl not a few days ago, running across her in the school and unfortunately too busy to even notice Marian. This was normal considering herself, a Shade with barely any presence, but that wasn't why Marian was here. The first time she saw this girl, she saw the fiery locks obscuring the girl's face as she ran past her. Another time she could, she could have sworn she heard her a corner away but never quite had the chance to track her. So here she was, finding herself following the girl one day, watching her from a distance with a funny smile on her face. The girl seemed to stare at the lake for a moment, and Marian thought she was having a little moment. Up until she started taking off her school uniform, which prompted Marian to cock an eyebrow. Marian bit off a grin, musing aloud, "That's a funny place to go for a swim."

Ava might've been intensely focused, but she hadn't become deaf. She still had the hearing on par with greatest predators on this planet. So Ava heard the voice that spoke somewhere behind her loud and clear just as she was about to dip her foot in the water.
"WHO'S THERE?!"
Ava bellowed as she spun around almost as fast as an eye could blink. Ava formed a spear in her hand, made of volcanic rock, and she scoured the treeline with her eyes, ready to chuck the spear if the owner of the voice was someone stupid enough to try and perform a sneak attack on her. But instead of an active attacker Ava's eyes landed on a girl, around her age, sitting on a tree branch. And the smile on her face made Ava's skin crawl a bit, it was creepy in an unsettling way.
"What the fuck are you looking at?!"
Ava yelled at the girl, angry frown on her face, but she lowered the spear and instead stuck it on the sand next to her.

It would be a lie to say that the spear didn't pique her interest further. She wasn't intimidated and there wasn't even any sign of fear visible on her face, even when the look on this girl's face said she was ready to chuck that spear right through Marian's heart. Well not really, but Marian wouldn't have minded an attempt. Marian couldn't help a little chuckle at her question. The anger was clear on the girl's voice that Marian didn't even need to check her face from such a distance. "I mean, the literal answer: you, of course. I'm looking at you," she responded, as if that hadn't been the most unnerving thing to say at the moment. She didn't seem to make a move from where she sat, appearing rather comfortable from her post while they spoke to one another. "For what reason, it's very simple: curiosity summoned me and I can't really say no to such an invitation"

Great, this chick was a smartass. Fantastic. Ava let out an annoyed grumble and squeezed the spear that she was still gripping. Ava was almost wishing she had a reason to throw it at something, she was feeling tense and now uncomfortable because of this chick staring at her.
"No fucking shit."
was all Ava said as an answer, frowning.

The girl did also give an answer that Ava had been more or less wishing for, though it sounded really weird and Ava frowned more deeply. What the hell was this chick on about?
"Stop speaking in fucking poems and leave. I don't need an audience."
Ava said, knowing she was probably being unreasonable. This was a public place, after all. But she really wasn't feeling like being polite when this chick had crept up on her and was interrupting something that was hard for Ava. Plus, she was creepy.

The smile never left Marian's face, more so seeing the frustration on the girl's face. It amused her knowing well she already was getting under her skin just by sitting there. It was pretty funny -- her brother would probably smack her over the head for even thinking it was but she didn't really care. "Not needing an audience doesn't stop people from watching," Marian retorted, crossing her a leg over the other. She looked very much like she had no plans to leave. "Besides, it's not as if I'm invading your home, aren't I? I think I have all the right to sit and watch anyone who's prancing around outdoors."
