It had taken almost a full month, but there he was, finally delivering the books he'd promised to Celeste. It had been a busy month. Between the Halcyonites coming through, and then all this shit with the hate crime at the school, Angelo had been kept good and busy. He couldn't even say that things had slowed down properly, because they hadn't. Things were still an absolute mess, he'd just finally gotten a day off where he didn't feel like sleeping for forty-eight hours straight.

He knocked at Celeste's door with a literal armload of books, dressed in regular clothes rather than his uniform for once. The titles that were visible were all related to adoption, with titles like 'A home is more than a house' and 'Settling In: Your Guide to the first few Weeks'.

"Officer Genovese? Angelo, I mean, come in, come in..." Celeste said in surprise when she opened the front door and saw the police officer standing there with a stack of books in hand.

It had been a while since their last meeting, and upon seeing him now, she quickly remembered how he had offered her some books on adoption and parenting advice - which she had to admit were very welcome at the moment. Between Ebviony hitting someone at the community centre, Shale acting out somewhat, and Azure, well to be fair, he was the least problematic of the three, but still, she worried about the overly quiet young man, wolf, fitting in.

"Come into the kitchen, please," Celeste said ushering him into the house and leading him down the hall to the kitchen living room, an all in one open concept area with windows facing the street and patio doors leading to the backward and forest beyond that.

Angelo couldn't even do much beyond a tip of his head, because his arms were so loaded up with books. It wasn't an entirely selfless act, either--he was happy to get rid of the stacks of books he'd been bought and had gifted to him, considering he no longer particularly needed him.

"Sorry about how late this is," Angelo said as he headed to the kitchen, veeeeery carefully lowering the stack of books onto the table, wary of it falling over. "It's been busy at work, and busy at home, and... really it's just been a month."

Boy had it.

Celeste reached out to help steady the books when Angelo put them down on the table. Glancing at the books, she picked the first one up and smiled at the title, "Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wished Thier Adoptive Parents Knew".

"I can guess how crazy things have been," she said, sympathising with him, "the whole school has been all abuzz with what went on with that prank, well, I hope it was a prank," she confessed with a sigh as she placed the book back down on the stack.

"Can I get you some coffee or tea?" she asked Angelo, "I was just making some for myself," she told him with a smile.

"Not a prank," Angelo said. "Or at least that's my intuition. Too many factors that make absolutely no sense, even by the metrics of kids doing stupid things."

He split the stack of books in half, setting them beside each other to make sure they weren't going to topple over if, say, a fast moving teenager thundered past them.

"Coffee'd be nice, thank you," he said. "I wasn't sure if you were even free today. How've things been with the kids?"

"That's what I feared," Celeste told him as she placed her hands on her hips for a moment, "The school is kind of keeping it low-key for now, or at least trying to," she explained as she shook her head at everything that had happened.

"Have the police laid charges yet, or can they even do that since he's a minor, no?" she asked curiously. She had meant to ask Roldan about that, but she hadn't seen him since Samhain and things had just gotten crazy since then.

"Coffee it is," Celeste said smiling as she pulled out a metal Italian coffee maker and filled the bottom half with water, adding coffee before twisting on the top. Then she put it on the fire while grabbing cups, sugar and cream - which she warmed up so it wouldn't cool the coffee down. Then when it was all done, she grabbed a tin of homemade cookies she had just made, and brought everything to the table, moving the book to one side.

"How do you take your coffee?" she asked then asked as she poured Angelo a cup of very strong coffee, stopping part way if he wanted to add anything to it.

"Of course," he said. "They don't want a panic. Even if he's a minor, they can still press charges, but the sentences tend to be different. More lenient, and more open to the possibility of improvement."

Which was saying a lot, considering how lenient the island already was.

"It's not my case, so I couldn't say how things are progressing," he said with a shake of his head, before getting caught off guard by the fancy coffeemaker.

"I should have expected as much from a home ec teacher."

Probably a bit too fancy for usual, but it was nice as a once-upon-a-time-thing. Maybe he'd been too spoiled having Broen around the house cooking.

"Black. As black as it can get. You'll find plenty of cops like it black for the same reasons I do - keeps us up through night shifts."
