She had been meaning to explore the city that was but a flight away. As her wings unfurled from beneath her skin, enchanted to conform to her, the butterflyesque wings simply slid through her dress. They did not rip or tear the fabric, instead, it was as if the wings simply grew from her clothes. It was no spell she cast, just the way her people were - it had always fascinated her if truth be told. Elatia smiled as she lifted from the ground of school, the cool air of winter brushing back her blonde tresses. It brought tears to her eyes for more than just one reason. She missed her home so deeply, it caused her young and tender heart to ache. As the tears fell from her cheeks, Elatia flew over the beginning of the city. She watched the people below mill and move below her on the paved streets and sidewalks. Everyone was busy and had something to do it seemed. She had decided to skip the last class period to be able to spend more time doing as she pleased. It was not something she planned on making a habit of... But in her defense, she had been thrown into this world. Into this setting.

"I need to have some of the fun times."
That was her own opinion anyway. Elatia wasn't sure what they expected of her. She was a mere sixteen years of age - practically full grown on her world. She had been nearly married, and had nearly lost her life because of it. And she had lost those she loved, the place she had grown up in. The only place she knew. Elatia let out a shaky breath before landing on the sidewalk beside a shop that boasted warm, sweet coffee. The teenager took in a deep breath of the scents wafting from the front door of the coffee shop.
"What is that smell?!"

"Coffee. Bitter water." Came a voice from a gold bordered tear in the universe that had opened up behind her. Laetus emerged from the hole and it closed behind him, leaving him floating there. His eyes had dark rings about them as if he had just been rudely awakened. He let out a yawn.

"Humans really like the junk, but trust me, you do NOT want that stuff by itself." He said making a face of mock disgust. He then reached out and opened the door.

"That said, the humans came up with some great things to fix all that." He would float inside, but hold the door open for the young girl. As he did, the mix of sweet scents from the shops pastries were fully unleashed, though all were overpowered by the more powerful aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

Through the door, one could see a long counter stretched across a wall that seemed to be the center of everyone's attention, many people surrounding one side of the counter as if impatiently waiting for a medication that would prevent their rapidly approaching death. Rising above the mob, one could hear the voice of a young woman who was obscured by the crowd call out strange words.

"Venti Caramel Machiato! Grande White Mocha! Venti Latte!"
And as the voice did so, someone from the mob would grab a cup and leave the hoard.
Those that had already received their cups fell into two groups. Those that sat in the cafe talking or typing away, and those that rushed out the door and past Elatia, usually looking rather stressed or angry. On the other side of the counter was a young man, rushing to type the demands of a mildly more orderly hoard into a computer monitor. The people among this hoard were shouting similarly strange words to the ones the obscured woman had been calling out, and shoving money at the man before rushing to join the other hoard.

((Is it obvious? I work at Starbucks XD))

Elatia nearly jumped out of her pale flesh when Laetus' voice rang out behind her. The demi-fey whirled around with her eyes wide in surprise. He had startled her near to death. After a moment of trying to catch her breath, Elatia eventually grinned at him, watching him float toward the door that he held open for her. She slipped inside, though she replied,

"Coff...coffee. Well it smells delicious." She gave a soft little sigh as the smells of the pastries and the rich scent of the coffee melded together — it made her mouth water. Such a feeling made her miss her favorite drink back home. Anpo. It was sweet, aromatic, tangy with just the slightest bitter sweet from the wine. Elatia turned her attention to the amassed people at the counter. She could not see much of anything, being only 5' tall. So, her wings fluttered rapidly to lift her from the ground, as she had never put them away. Elatia now hovering alongside Laetus could see the people behind the counter, working. The girl laughed at the strange words being shouted and ordered.

"I want one of the things. Have you tried before?" Her head canted to the side as she glanced over at him, a curious look on her face. He seemed to have at least once; perhaps she would get whatever he had tried. She wanted something sweet however.

Laetus nodded and moved into line.
"Yeah, I've had a few. Some things don't drown out the coffee taste enough." He said as he looked up at the menu board above the counter. Slowly, the line inched forward.
"The humans came up with something called 'caramel'. That ones the best at sweetening this stuff if you ask me." He pointed up at the board. Something called a 'caramel latte'.
"That one would be my favorite, though you have to ask them to drown it in the caramel. They always skimp on the sweet."

She did like sweet things. Elatia smiled over at him as she moved forward as well, then shifted her gaze to the menu he had pointed out, just behind the counter and upon the wall. Caramel, what an odd word. The sound of it as Laetus said it sounded so very exotic. Elatia gave a nod of her head.

"Caramel latte. Humans have such a strange taste in words. But I will try one of those!" Elatia laughed softly, and her eyes twinkled with excitement. As the line moved forward, she slid her arm around one of his, her very skin seeming to tingle with her emotions.

"Do they cost very much? These latte coffees?" An anonymous donor, who she suspected to be her father, sent her money every few weeks. She did not complain or turn it down however. Such a thing meant leaving a trail of some kind - one she would find, to find him. When it was their turn to order, Elatia said with gusto,

"Caramel latte. Do not skim-skimp on the sweet." The demi-fey snickered softly, remembering his words.

Laetus smiled, simply letting her cling to him. "Kinda. At least by coffee standards." He said with a sigh. "I don't know how they get away with it. But it's also the best I've had so far."
When she ordered so enthusiastically, Laetus could only laugh. He reached into his pocket and took out a red card. "Make that two, Venti." He added. The young man took the card and swiped it across the top of his monitor.
