Vance would lay back on the grass, letting out a shaky breath. No matter how many times he did it, shifting always hurt, it was a long process but it was really painful.

He'd close his eyes a moment, opening them when he heard someone approaching. The werewolf would jump up, looking at the approaching person, blinking a little.

The stranger had dog ears and legs, but a mostly human shape. He'd look at her, confusion and distrust in his eyes. His therapist had been encouraged him to talk more to greet other students. He managed to say a simple, "hi." @Keen

Charlotte wasn't much for the woods. Every time she visited, she came back to her dorm covered in dirt. Suffice to say, her dorm parent wasn't too pleased, and often had to push Charlotte to take a shower and wash her clothes. But she hadn't visited in a long while, and now that it was colder, she had to go out and see what the woods looked like covered in snow. It must have been a beauty!

Seeing someone laying on the ground giving shallow breaths wasn't what she expected. They looked... not hurt, but not well either. She rushed to their side to get a closer look.

She jumped back at his sudden movement, but the tenseness in her body didn't stay long. Great, he was alive! Even better, he could speak.

"Hi! Are you okay? Wasn't it cold down there?"

He'd blink at her, glancing down at the snow. "I'm fine....wasn't cold...'m used to the cold," he'd rub his shoulder, which popped a little when he moved it. "Just....just shifted was all."

The werewolf would look back up at her, his nose twitching. "You....you are a dog?" he'd ask, a confused look on his face. "Smell kinda like one, and the ears and legs," he'd look her over uncertainly.

"Who are you?" he'd finally ask.

Charlotte cringed at the popping sound. She hated that noise. It always sounded unnatural. She had never heard a bone break, but she bet popping was right next to the sound of a breaking bone in terms of cringiness to hear.

"I'm a dog, yep," she replied, quickly moving on from the sound. "I'm a KEM0, actually. I was made to be like a dog-human. My name's Charlotte. What's your name?"

"KEMO?" that was a new word to him, wasn't even something from mythology he'd heard of. "You were made?" he wasn't sure what she meant like that, "were....were you bitten and turned?"

"Charlotte," he'd repeat the name, almost as if it was a foreign word. He'd look at her a moment, squinting a little. "Vance........my name is Vance."

He'd rub his arm, still feeling sore from the shift. "Did you....uh.....did you want anything?"

A lively laughter left Charlotte. "No, I wasn't turned. I'm not a vampire or werewolf or anything. All I wanted was to make sure you're okay." She looked him over once more. He didn't seem perfectly healthy, but he was laying in snow a moment earlier. He was probably just stiff.

"Buuut, yeah! I was made. In a lab? A laboratory. I don't know all the tiny details."

He'd tilt his head when she laughed, that was unexpected, yet it wasn't an unpleasant sound. "I'm ok.....I always hurt....used to it, so I'm always ok," that was an incredibly flawed logic, but it's what he was always told.

"Made in a lab?" his brow would furrow as he considered this. "Never met someone like that...like you," he'd look at her curiously, her eyes looking over her, his nose twitching.

"Why'd you want to know if I'm ok?"

The jovialness she showed earlier faded away to nothing. "Why? Because being hurt is bad! If you're always hurt, you should go to the school's nurse. Or maybe a doctor is better..."

She tapped the bottom of her lip with an index finger. "Nurses help soothe stomach aches and sprained ankles. Buuut, nurses are also good at telling you where you should go if you have a problem bigger than what they can handle."

"My...my pack....they said I should always hurt....cause Imma mut," that wasn't true of course, but it was what he was told. "Hurt because I'm unnatural," he'd say, tilting his head.

"Doctors are doing things," he'd shrug, "don't think it helps." Rather it hasn't really helped yet. "The medicine.....," he'd make a face and shake his head.

He'd sigh, looking at her. "I......," he'd pause, "you're nice."

"Oh." A second passed before she registered the compliment. "Thank you! Um. I don't think anyone deserves to be hurt. A mutt's a kid, right? They should be protected then! I hope the medicine helps, but if it doesn't, maybe you can ask for new medicine?"
