Maddie loved the animal adoption center in Manta Carlos for more than one reason. There were cute animals, of course, but also, because they had almost everything and Maddie needed to watch animals to get a feel for what it was like to transform into them.
She still wasn't sure she could turn into anything mythical (and right now she wasn't going to try). She searched the place until she found what she was looking for. Otters. Anywhere else, it would have been weird to have otters in a pet store, but pretty much everything was strange here.
She knew enough to turn into an otter,r it was moving like one that was the problem for her now. Without hesitation -- and while no one was looking -- Maddie shifted into her otter form and stumbled around as if she were on ice.
Without thinking about it, the little otter made a purring chirp. The otters in the cage beside it answered it's call, coming to investigate and pushing their noses against the cage. Maddie did the same, touching noses with them.
