Species Templates

Starlight Academy offers freeform species creation. If you have an idea for an original species, or a version of an existing species (vampires, demons, etc), you're free to create them as you'd like!

However, if you're looking for something a bit simpler, we provide a number of templates for different species and subspecies for those who don't want to deal with any sort of power balancing. These species templates come pre-balanced and are free to be built off of.

All templates come with a labeled cost. If a cost is 0, then your character can have two powers. If the cost is 1, then your character can only have one power. If the cost is 2, then your character doesn't have any free power slots, because their species abilities are too strong.

To use a template, just write out which template you're using, and any relevant notes. For example:

Mostly Angel Nephilim: Supernatural Speed

Traditional Siren

Simple Wolf Shifter - Wolf ears, Enhanced Sense of Smell

List of Templates:

Detailed Template Breakdown:
Were-Shifter
Defined as anything that shifts between a humanoid shape and an animal one. Uses the "species: were-shifter" tag. Players should clearly indicate what specific animal they're shifting between.
Defining the species and the tag staff use. Most players don't have to worry about this unless they aren't sure which species they fall into.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!
No template required! Have fun writing what you want!

Template One: Simple Shifter
The template name and number. Players who wish to use a template will add this name to their specific abilities. If you have to write more than two lines or extra explanation, use your own custom build (which does not need to be said on the species abilities section).

The most basic kind of shifters.
Small description of the template. Don't worry about this too much.

This powers this template takes. Using the simple shifter, for instance, would mean that you can only have one additional power due to the accumulation of strengths vs weaknesses.

= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.
+ 1 Enhanced Sense: This character gets one enhanced sense depending on their animal, which is twice as powerful as their human equivalent. A dog shifter might have an enhanced sense of smell, while a hawk shifter might have an enhanced sense of eyesight. Please specify which sense is affected.
= [Optional] Animal Characteristic(s): This character can freely have physical differences in their human form which reflect their animal form. These provide no tangible bonus (cat ears, goat eyes, etc).
Your character's powers. + means strength, - means weakness, and = means the power is considered neutral.+/- means the power balances itself out.

Example use:
Simple Wolf Shifter. Enhanced sense of smell. Has a wolf tail even in human form.
Here is what you would put in your species abilities if you wished to use this template. You are free to slice up templates and mix and match, just remember that if you start writing out sentences, you might as well make your own custom build.

Angels
Any type of Angel is included within this species. Fallen, cherubim, archangel, seraphim, etc. Defined as a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of any God or God-like entity. Uses the "species: angel" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: New Age Angels

New Age Angels are what we see now in the modern era. Beautiful, pure creatures often humanoid with wings and a pure presence.

Cost: 1
+ Wings: These characters commonly have wings with which they can use to fly at roughly the speed of a bird. These wings tend to be retractable to allow them to appear more human.
= [Optional] Human Shape: Some Angels require a human shape so they can blend in with society. This isn't as commonly needed for New Age Angels, but if you want your Angel to have a more inhuman appearance, feel free to tag this on with your species abilities using "Species abilities: New Age Angel. Human Shape."
+ Immortality: These Angels are immortal, able to respawn to their respective Heaven once killed. These Angels will regenerate in Heaven over the course of 7 days, returning once their mortal body has been remade.
- Dark/Evil Magic: New Age Angels are weak to Dark or evil magic such as necromancy, Demonic magic, or other malicious spells and powers. They will feel ill at a distance, and their strength will be halved
+ Omnilingual: Angels of this type can speak all known languages, allowing them to communicate effectively with anyone.
+ Enhanced Beauty: New Age Angels are regarded as conventionally attractive. Not supernaturally so, but in the confines of what is possible for a supermodel or superstar. There is just something about them that's appealing to the people around them. This beauty isn't sexual, meaning even those who don't find the Angel's gender sexually attractive can still find them beautiful.
- Falling From Grace: New Age Angels are in the unfortunate position of constantly having to watch what they do, lest they want to fall from grace and be deemed a fallen Angel. They may not commit mortal sins without losing their powers and turning mortal, being recalled to Heaven, or other equally severe punishments.

Template Two: Traditional Angels

Traditional Angels are those spoken about in the bible and old folklore. They are terrifying creatures who most mortals cannot bear to look at without going insane. They are more closely related to Eldritch Abominations than the Angels we see portrayed today.

Cost: 0
= Eldritch Appearance: Angel's of this type appear in different varieties of horror and incomprehensible to most mortals and creatures. Because of this people cannot see this form of theirs. Those who do view this form while the Angel is on Earth get intense headaches. if they stare too long, like with staring at the sun, permanent damage is possible.
+ Wings: These characters commonly have wings with which they can use to fly at roughly the speed of a bird.
= Human Shape: Because of their inhuman appearance, traditional Angels are given human forms that don't take or add to their power base.
+ Omnilingual: Angels of this type can speak all known languages, allowing them to communicate effectively with anyone.
- Apathy: Unlike New Age Angels, Traditional Angels are unable to empathize with humans. They may be capable of sympathy, but they cannot ever truly understand what it is to be mortal and because of this, many problems people face on a day to day basis are petty things to an Angel. This makes it hard to have true, lasting bonds with anyone.
+ Immortality: These Angels are immortal, able to respawn to their respective Heaven once killed. These Angels will regenerate in Heaven over the course of a day, returning once their mortal body has been remade.
- Strict Code: Traditional Angels are unable to break their code of honor. They don't get punished for sinning because they are incapable of sin. Physically and mentally, they do not have the same freedoms a mortal or New Age Angel has. These codes are whatever codes their God lies out for them and so vary depending on what religion this Angel was born from.

Template Three: Battle Angels

These types of Angels were commonly the soldiers. They fought on the front line to protect Earth and Heaven. What they lose in human understanding they gain in fighting ability.

Cost: 2
+ Wings: These characters commonly have wings with which they can use to fly at roughly the speed of a bird.
+ Enhanced Combat: These types of Angels are fighters first and foremost and as such have an innate understanding of all fighting abilities. They learn fighting techniques easier and need less training to stay sharp. Mind you, they still need to train as they initial abilities are no better than a top-tier mortal.
+ Immortality: These Angels are immortal, able to respawn to their respective Heaven once killed. These Angels will regenerate in Heaven over the course of 3 days, returning once their mortal body has been remade.
+ Supernatural Durability: Battle Angels have supernatural durability, able to take inhuman amounts of damage before breaking down. They can be hit with a bus and (while wounded) they aren't on death's door. During their dying moments, they are given a bigger boost of adrenaline that allows them one supernatural feat before death takes them.
+ Supernatural Strength: Capable of lifting two tons without breaking a sweat.
- Apathy: Battle Angels, like Traditional Angels, are unable to empathize with humans. They may be capable of sympathy, but they cannot ever truly understand what it is to be mortal and because of this, many problems people face on a day to day basis are petty things to an Angel. This makes it hard to have true, lasting bonds with anyone.
= Human Shape: Like Traditional Angels, Battle Angels commonly look inhuman and thus have a human shape.
- Demonic Poison: Being hit with Demonic magic or cut with Demonicly embedded weaponry acts as a poison to combat Angels, slowly sapping them of their abilities and making them deathly ill in the long-term until they are given time to rest and heal themselves. It takes around fifteen minutes before they begin to feel the effects when attacked but at that point their abilities are cut 1/4th every half hour. It takes them two days to heal fully from this so long as they are not straining themselves with combat.

Template Four: Nephilim

The name for a human/Angel hybrid. Nephilim's come in three different templates: mostly human, balanced, or mostly Angel. Keep in mind when using one this template to name which of these three you decided on. For example: "Species abilities: Nephilim. Mostly Human."

4A: Mostly Human
Cost: 0
+ Flight: Whether with the use of wings or not, this type of Nephilim can fly at roughly the speed of a bird.
4B: Balanced
Cost: 0
+ Flight: Whether with the use of wings or not, this type of Nephilim can fly at roughly the speed of a bird.
= Enhanced Lifespan: While not immortal, Nephilim have a longer lifespan than the average human, able to live upwards of three hundred years comfortably.
= [Optional] Angel Form: These Nephilim have an optional Angel form that is completely aesthetic and has no effect on their other abilities.
- Demonic Magic/Weaponry: Demonic magic and weaponry harms these Nephilim more than normal weapons or attacks, sappping their enhanced ability to half its strength. They are more susceptible to Demonic mind tricks and the like.
+ 1 Enhanced Ability: These Nephilim have one professional grade human ability such as agility, durability, strength, stamina, or speed. They can perform feats that would take years of training with ease and without formal training but they cannot surpass what is possible for a human.

4C: Mostly Angel
Cost: 1
+ Flight: Whether with the use of wings or not, this type of Nephilim can fly at roughly the speed of a bird.
= Human Form: These Nephilim always have an Angel and Human form that they are able to switch between.
+ Immortality: Like other Angels, these type of Nephilim are immortal, able to respawn to their respective Heaven once killed. These Angels will regenerate in Heaven over the course of 7 days, returning once their mortal body has been remade.
+ 1 Supernatural Ability: These Nephilim have one inhuman level ability such as agility, durability, strength, stamina, or speed. They can surpass the limit of what a professional athlete can do with ease and are noticeably supernatural when pushing themselves.
- Demonic/Evil Magic: Evil magic such as necromancy, Demonic magic, or other malicious spells and powers. They will feel ill at a distance, and their supernatural ability will be halved. They are more susceptible to Demonic mind tricks and the like.

Arachne
Any creature that is primarily arachnid. Commonly this is seen as a person with a humanoid torso, head, and arms connected to an arachnid abdomen. Uses the "species: arachne" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Simple Spider

A simple half human and half spider.

Cost: 0
+ Web Creation: This character can create webs strong enough to hold their weight. They can only produce as much web in mass as twice the size of their body daily. Their web is adhesive enough to make an average (human) grown man struggle. Through their web, they can sense vibration when holding onto it.
+ Claws/Teeth: This character has sharp, knife-like claws and teeth meant for tearing skin, a sign of their diet.
+ Supernatural Agility: This character has supernatural agility. They can surpass the limit of what a professional athlete can do with ease and are noticeably supernatural when pushing themselves able to pull feats that a normal person couldn't even imagine.
+ Exoskeleton Armor: This character has armor over their arms, and the lower have of their body that gives resistance to cutting damage but not crushing damage.
- Large Abdomen: This characters large, lower abdomen makes most human buildings and places very difficult to fit through. Stairwells and elevators are nearly impossible without lots of wiggling. Bulky and big, they can't fit in the small places humans can.
- Bleed Out: This characters exoskeleton parts, when crushed or torn do not easily clot leaving a major wound to become a critical one. If they don't find a way to cauterize the wound or stop the bleeding with something more then a mere bandage, they're likely to die.
- No Cold Resistance: This character has no cold resistance. Snow is a death sentence. When exposed to the cold their movement is halved and more than a half hour in the cold is enough to put them on death's door.
- Carnivorous: This character is carnivorous, requiring meat on the daily to sustain themselves. Furthermore, they struggle with sugar-based products as their bodies are not accustomed to handling how sugar is processed.
Template Two: Poisonous Arachnid

A simple poisonous half human and half arachnid.

Cost: 0
+ Poisonous Bite: This character has a poisonous bite, capable of injecting poison into their victims which can paralyze a fully grown man in roughly thirty minutes. The other side effects include dizziness, difficulty breathing, and double vision.
+ Claws/Teeth: This character has sharp, knife-like claws and teeth meant for tearing skin, a sign of their diet.
+ Supernatural Speed: This character has supernatural speed.

Template Three: Jorōgumo

A spider-yokai with musical ability and a craving for human flesh.

Cost: 2
- Aquatic Pull: This character is inclined to live and spend most of their time around fresh water. Things like waterfalls, lakes, streams, or rivers are the only things that seem to relax them. The sea can do in a pinch, but it doesn't keep them satiated for long. When not around water they feel distinctly wrong, and their abilities are hindered because of it. Specifically, this character's singing is not as clear or captivatingly filled with emotion when they aren't at a source of water.
+ Supernatural Beauty: This character is attractive as they come. For most, this falls under sexual attraction, but even those not attracted to this character's gender or sex will find themselves in awe of this characters beauty. It's hard to look away, like looking at a moving piece of art.
- Imperfect Human Disguise: While this character has a human shape, their real form will be shown in their reflection.
- Flesh Eater: This character must consume the meat of sapient beings to survive. In any other place you would merely say they had a craving for human flesh, but truthfully they can sustain themselves on any sapient creature with at least a human level of intelligence. When around people who are bleeding or otherwise noticeably wounded, their craving and predatory instincts are at an all-time high.
+ Claws/Teeth: This character has sharp, knife-like claws and teeth meant for tearing skin, a sign of their diet.
+ Web Creation: This character can create webs strong enough to hold their weight. They can only produce as much web in mass as twice the size of their body daily. Their web is adhesive enough to make an average (human) grown man struggle. Through their web, they can sense vibration when holding onto it.
+ Supernatural Singing: This character has a supernaturally beautiful singing voice that they use to lure people toward them. This isn't exactly mind control, but more similar to an aura of charm. People are more inclined to be attracted to their location or move toward them when this character is singing, and their victim can hear it.
+ Poison Immunity: This character is immune to all types of natural and unnatural attempts at poisoning them. They won't even notice someone has tried unless the action was obvious.

Demon
Demons are any creatures associated with any kind of Hell. This uses the "species: demon" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Hellion Demon

A Demon based on one of the seven sins.

Cost: 0
+ Prehensile Tail: This character has a prehensile tail with enough flexibility and control to be used as another hand. It is strong enough to pick up things like cups and other lightweight objects. It helps mildly with agility, but this isn't noteworthy enough that most would notice it.
+/- Sin Embodiment: This character is the child of one of the sins. It is both a weakness and a power that they embody this sin. When around people who are committing their sin, their other powers are doubled in strength, but around those committing the virtue opposite their sin, their powers are halved. They are unable to act on the virtue that is opposite their sin at all.
- Holy Places/Symbols: This character is hurt by holy places and symbols. These don't have to be only belonging to Catholic and Christian religions. Anyone who has faith and carries with them a symbol is dangerous to this character. Holy symbols burn them and holy places half this characters powers and make them feel nauseous.
- Holy Weaponry: The use of holy weapons on this character is particularly useful. If this character isn't careful, a death by holy weaponry stops them from returning to their Hell, killing them permanently. The holy weaponry has to be of their respective opposing religion, however.
+ Immortality: This character is immortal, and thus when they die, they return to their respective section of Hell and must wait three days before their body heals them and they can return to Earth. They can die in any fashion a human can.

Template Two: Goetic Demon

A simple Goetic Demon template.

Cost: 1
+ Contract Bestowal: This character can forge contracts with others. The arrangements they create must be equally beneficial to both parties — at least in writing. This character can be as sneaky as they please to get a better deal out of their contract but they may never break their word.
- Sigil: This character, being a Goetic Demon, has their own sigil with their Demon name etched into it. This sigil is the main way to summon them, and if someone is to get their true name, they are inclined to have a bargain with that person in the person's favor.
+ Immortality: This character is immortal, and thus when they die, they return to their respective section of Hell and must wait three days before their body heals them and they can return to Earth. Their body doesn't work like a normal person. This character's body falls apart like clay, instead.
+ Pain Suppression: This character has a reduced sense of pain. Most things that would be excruciating to a human are a dull sense to them. Because of this, they can handle nearly any type of physical trauma without being put down. While their body may still fall apart normally, they are not put out by pain alone.

Template Three: Hellhound

A basic Hellhound from the seven sins Hell.

Cost: 0
+ Enhanced Smell: This character is capable of smelling well enough to be an excellent tracker. They can smell blood a mile off and discern people's different scents. If they play close enough attention, they can even smell people's emotions if they're heavy enough.
+ Enhanced Bite: This character has a specifically harsh bite. They can shatter bone with their jaw and tear through things like wood or plastic without a problem. They still can't bite through metal, but in a fight, their teeth and jaw are a death sentence for those who might find themselves unlucky enough to be near.
- No Cold Resistance: This character has no cold resistance. Snow is a death sentence. When exposed to the cold their movement is halved and more than a half hour in the cold is enough to put them on death's door.
+ Regenerative Healing: This character regenerations from attacks. They take up to a week to reform torn off limbs, small cuts heal instantaneously, and major wounds heal within an hour so long as they aren't running around and straining themselves. This character can heal from nearly anything so long as they stop and give themselves time to actually close the wound rather than straining their body.

Dragon
Dragons are self-explanatory creatures that include all varieties of large lizard from drakes to western dragons. They use the "species: dragon" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Elemental Dragon

Dragons that use elemental magic, often Western in appearance but not uncommon for them to be Eastern either.

Cost: 2
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Flight: When transformed into their dragon form, this character has a set of wings that allows for them to fly.
= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.
+ Element Immunity: Whichever element was chosen for this characters "elemental breath" this character is immune to that element and cannot be harmed by it.
+ Elemental Breath: This character can breathe a basic element of your choosing (fire, ice, water, electricity, etc.) in a cone attack that spans out ten feet in front of them when they are human and thirty feet in front of them when they are a Dragon.
- Opposite Element: Just as this character is immune to their own element, they are weak against the element opposite their own. When struck by it, it deals twice the amount of normal damage attacks could. Weapons coated in this element also pierce through their defenses two times easier. The opposite element must be defined in the application and make some amount of sense.
- Large Full Form: Most full-grown dragons are too large to fit into normal rooms or homes. Due to this, in this form, they are limited to large, open spaces and areas so they can move freely around, or their speed, agility, and flexibility suffer.
++ Supernatural Condition: This character has a great sense of smell along with durability and strength that greatly surpasses that of what a human could ever hope to achieve. In their human forms, they can punch through brick walls or take a steel beam to the body without being put out. In their dragon forms, they are even stronger with the ability to topple two-story homes and be have scales that resist against bludgeoning and stabbing damage by five times the normal rate.
Template Two: Sea Wyrm

Sean Dragons that are specifically Eastern in style with long, thin bodies.

Cost: 1
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
- Creature of the Sea: This character is inclined toward the sea and going even two days without a visit to the ocean is enough to put them in a completely depressive state of mind.
= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.

Template Three: Mystical Dragon

A dragon less associated with the Western idea of such. Typically seen as more good and in tune with mysticism.

Cost:2
= Decelerated Aging:
This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Magic Resistance: This character has an innate resistance to magic directly at a singular force. Things like fireballs or mental magics meant to trick them or directly harm them are %50 less efficient than usual.
= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.
+ Supernatural Intelligence: This character has intelligence superior to that of mere mortals. They can comprehend languages and logical studies ten times better and quicker than that of a human. They learn at three times the rate as well.
+ Enhanced Condition: This character has enhanced agility and speed. Because of their lithe body in dragon form, they move more like a snake, able to twist and coil themselves around things and away from threats.

Fae
Fae is an umbrella term for species including the kelpie, pixies, etc. This uses the "species: fae" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Kelpie

A Fae horse generally found in Ireland or Scottland that lures people to bodies of water to drown and eat them.

Cost: 0
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
+ Adhesive Secretion: When being touched, this character can secrete a strong adhesive from their skin that keeps people from pulling away from them. This helps this character to drown and eat their victims.
- Bridle: Taking a Kelpie's bridle gives you control over this Character. However, to have full control over this character, you must manage to put the bridle on them, and they will be forced to be your servant.
= Human Glamour: This character has a strong form of fae glamour. Illusion magic that affects more than just sight, but touch as well. This allows them to take on a human shape.
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
- Unable to Lie: This character cannot lie. While they don't always have to be honest, telling an outright lie will strip the magic they have and leave them powerless.

If they are to give false information because they were misinformed, this is not considered a lie. This character must knowingly lie for their power to be stripped. Half truths are not considered lies. Having been in a society where lying was not common, this character has a hard time spotting even a bad lie and they might miss out on sarcasm.
- Iron Weakness: Like most of the Fae, this character is weak to Iron. Touching cold iron feels like a severe burning sensation and being around iron (like being locked in a cage of iron) is just constant, throbbing pain. It's enough pain that they would be on the floor, squirming.
+ Supernatural Allure: There is just something alluring about this character. It's not so much an attraction as a natural charisma surrounding the things they say and do. Once they've been noticed, it's hard not to notice them again and again and again.
- Flesh Eater: This character must consume humanoid meat. In any other place you would merely say they had a craving for human flesh, but truthfully they can sustain themselves on any sentient creature with at least a human level of intelligence. When around people who are bleeding or otherwise noticeably wounded, their craving and predatory instincts are at an all-time high.
+/- Equid Physiology: This character is in possession of basic horse physiology when transformed into their Kelpie form. The only exception being that they run three times as fast as a normal horse. This character also looks less and less like a real horse the closer you get to them, revealing their monstrous form when you look at their reflection in the water.

Template Two: Spriggan

A Fae creature made of plants and roots that is located in the forest. Said to be protectors of nature, but also generally of the Unseelie court with a deep distaste for humanity.

Cost: 0
= Human Glamour: This character has a strong form of fae glamour. Illusion magic that affects more than just sight, but touch as well. This allows them to take on a human shape.
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Disease Immunity: This character is immune to natural diseases from the common cold to STDs.
+ Contaminant Immunity: This character is immune to all natural toxins and poisons in the world. This does not extend to human-made or personally created contaminants.
+/- Photosynthesis: This character doesn't breathe as normal people do. Instead, they breathe through their skin with the use of light. Meaning they cannot drown or be choked, but if they are kept from a source of direct sunlight, they die at the same rate a human does. Night does not count as they are still able to breathe using the light of the moon.
- Fae Debts: This character is bound by the debts they make. This includes thanking people. They are bound by a specific debt until it has been paid. Magic makes them agree to a request when they are bound, so long as the request is equal to the debt they owe.

A single favor does not necessarily pay off a single debt. If you were to save their life, they are bound by magic to repay such a favor. Depending on what you do for that fae it can be repaid in one to one hundred favors.

- Pollution Weakness: This character is weak to pollution and smoke and lose consciousness in three minutes when swamped with either.
+ Nature Empowerment: When in places of nature, far from civilization, this characters other abilities are strengthed by half their amount.

Template Three: Hag

A Fae that has the appearance of an old person (generally a woman) with terrifying magic. Said to punish impudent children.

Cost: 0
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
- Iron Weakness: Like most of the Fae, this character is weak to Iron. Touching cold iron feels like a severe burning sensation and being around iron (like being locked in a cage of iron) is just constant, throbbing pain. It's enough pain that they would be on the floor, squirming.
+ Supernatural Durability: This character can take inhuman amounts of damage before breaking down. They can be hit with a bus and (while wounded) they aren't on death's door. During their dying moments, they are given a bigger boost of adrenaline that allows them one supernatural feat before death takes them.
+ Supernatual Strength: Capable of lifting two tons without breaking a sweat.

+ Hallucinations: This character can create hallucinations focused on one person. They cannot actually cause harm to people with these illusions, but the magic makes the hallucination feel, sound, smell, and seem real to anyone who has been trapped in it. This magic is weakest to those with a good nose or strong willpower.
+/- Bargains: This character, rather than having debts, seeks out bargains with other people. This is a gamble whether this character of their victim will come out on top. The Fae cannot offer something they can not truly procure or give to their victim. The goal is to screw the other people over.

Merpeople
Aquatic beings that are generally humanoid in nature. Most aquatic beings fall into this category. This uses the "species: merfolk" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: New Age Mermaid

A template for a basic mermaid. A person with the upper half of a human and the lower half of a fish. These mermaids follow a more Disney logic.

Cost: 1
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives three times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
= Shapeshifting: This character can shift between their land form (while on land) and their water form (when in a body of water).
+ Supernatural Beauty: This character is attractive as they come. For most, this falls under sexual attraction, but even those not attracted to this character's gender or sex will find themselves in awe of this characters beauty. It's hard to look away, like looking at a moving piece of art.

Template Two: Traditional Siren

A template for a siren, a mermaid looking creature that sings men off boats with their beautiful voices for the purpose of eating them.

Cost: 0
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives three times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
= Shapeshifting: This character can shift between their land form (while on land) and their water form (when in a body of water).
+ Siren Song: When this character sings "The Siren's Song" no one who is listening can stop themselves from getting closer in a complete trance. This trance will be broken the moment any harm is brought to the victim.
- Dehydration: Being of the sea, this character is more prone to dehydration than most people. During hot times or near warm sources like fire, their skin will flake, and they become quickly uncomfortable. They do poorly in hot, dry climates.

Template Two: Finfolk

A template for the Finfolk. Sorcerers from Orkney Island who were said to be made from Selkie. The evil version of the Selkie and sometimes considered members of the Fae Unseelie courts.

Cost: 0
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
= Shapeshifting: This character can shift between their land form (while on land) and their water form (when in a body of water).
- Dehydration: Being of the sea, this character is more prone to dehydration than most people. During hot times or near warm sources like fire, their skin will flake, and they become quickly uncomfortable. They do poorly in hot, dry climates.
+ Magnetism: Finfolk are renowned for an ethereal magnetism, and this character is no different. There's just something about them that's bright, adorable, and appealing. Once someone notices them, it's hard to stop.
- Silver: The Finfolk are both weakened and repelled by silver. It is said that one of the best ways to stop a possible kidnapping from a Finfolk is to toss silver coins away from yourself as you walk.
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives three times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate as a human.
+ Aquatic Senses: This character's abilities in their aquatic form are best compared to a shark. They are capable of swimming at an incredible pace, rivaling the likes of sharks at around thirty-five miles per hour in short bursts. They are also in possession of electroreception to help them see underwater and hunt prey.
- Finfolk Curse: Finfolk are known for taking mortal spouses, generally through kidnapping. If this character marries a merfolk, they lose their power, the beauty, and their legs. With that in mind, any future dating will have to be done with someone who isn't any type of merfolk, or they will lose her abilities.

Template Four: Selkie

A person (usually a woman) who wears a seal skin to transform into a seal and swim in the ocean. if their skin is stolen, the person who stole it owns them and is said to be their spouse.

Cost: 0
+ Aquatic Adaption: This character can adapt to any large body of water. They are capable of breathing underwater and diving deep into the sea. They can handle the cold and pressure that goes with living under the sea.
= Shapeshifting: This character can shift between their seal form and their human form with the use of their seal skin.
+ Speed Swimming: While in the water wearing their seal skin, this character's swimming speed is significantly increased, allowing them to torpedo through the water at such a pace that they become a blur. Of course, this makes turning complicated but is very useful for traversing across the sea.
- Sea Bound: This character must have access to the sea, or they will become notably depressed. This is more than an emotional decay as it will significantly affect their physical health as well. They will grow increasingly weak and sick as they're kept from the sea. Within a month with no contact with the sea, they will be in critical condition.
- Selkie Skin: This character's seal skin is their greatest weakness. They are not able to keep it with them at all times, and if found by someone, this character will be under the person's power and generally speaking, considered to be their spouse. They cannot disobey the holder's orders.

If burned, this character becomes human, though most people would assume this would kill this character. That isn't entirely wrong, as part of this character (specifically half of them) is killed.

When their seal skin is burned, this character feels as if they are burning and is in excruciating pain as their selkie powers are stripped from them. However, doing this will also mean they no longer need to obey anyone's orders, as the weakness of their seal skin is gone, too.

Nightmare
Any creature made of pure darkness or shadow or any creature born from a nightmare realm. This includes creatures like raven mockers, shadowmen, bogeymen, and enenra. This uses the "species: nightmare" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Bogeymen

A basic bogeyman template. These are creatures who often feed on fear and give people nightmares, specifically small children.

Cost: 0
- Nocturnal: This character is most energetic at night. No matter how rested they are, this character is always sluggish and out of it throughout the day. They're unfocused, and it's all too easy to doze off. At night, no matter how tired they feel, they can't sleep. There's no way around it; they're a creature of darkness and the night.
- Light Magic: Being made of darkness means, light-based magic is downright deadly to this character. It burns away their skin and shadow-based attacks and forces them to retreat.
= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate.
= Fear Consumption: This character feeds off fear rather than food. While they can consume food, it doesn't do anything for them other than taste good. They don't lack a sense of taste, but it is lessened. Note, they don't eat people, only absorbs the essence of their fear, which does require them to hunt.

Small bits of fear, like jump scares or anxiety, is like a snack to them, but it will never fill them. They need intense fear, the fear of losing one's life or the life of someone they love.

Without consuming fear, they starve the same as a human wound. They do not require food or water.
+ Phobia Inducement: This characters natural form induces fear to those who look upon them. They become a person's deepest fears personified, even if those fears aren't physical. This works on anyone who can see or hear them, but will not work while this character is in their human form.
+ Nightmare Traveling: This character can travel through the nightmare realm, leaving their physical body behind and traveling through people's dreams to turn them into nightmares. This is aids in their feeding process.

When in this state, this character's body is left behind in an unconscious state, leaving them vulnerable to attack if in the open.

This character cannot control dreams, but they can influence them by introducing a person's phobias into dreams to make them turn into nightmares. This affects their victims in a lack of rest. When their victim awakens, they will feel as if they didn't sleep at all, at the very worst.

Template Two: Shadow Person

A basic shadow person template. Shadow people are patches of shadow regarded as sentient that move around in the night.

Cost: 1
+ Darkness Adaptation: This character is more accustomed to the dark than they are the light. They have perfect night vision and feel entirely at home in the night.
+ Shadow Camouflage: This power can work in one of two ways. Either this character can remain still and become one with the shadows, or they can jump between shadows.

For the first method, this character must stay still, moving at all breaks stealth and makes them visible. They aren't entirely invisible, either, rather they are very easily overlooked. The area they're hidden in is just a tad darker than the surrounding shadows.

For the second method, this character can jump between shadows as far as three yards, but there can be no light separating one shadow from the next, and they must be looking to the spot they wish to teleport as well as be touching some form of shadow already.
= Decelerated Aging: This character lives ten times longer than a human, though they physically and mentally mature at the same rate.
- Light Magic: Being made of shadow means, light-based magic is downright deadly to this character. It burns away their shadow and shadow-based attacks and forces them to retreat.
+ Shadow Control: This character cannot create shadow, but they can use the present shadow in the area to stretch/expand it in whichever direction they like, to snuff out lights and the like. Think of this ability working like a rubber band, the more shadow in a given area the farther this character is capable of shifting the shade. To quantify shadow in any particular area is as simple as detecting the sources of light and determining how bright they are.

Keeping with the rubber band analogy, this character has to stay focused on the shadow they are manipulating, or it will return to its original location and the farther they stretch the shadow, the more concentration they must use. This character must also be careful that they're moving the shadows as naturally as they can. Otherwise, people would be able to tell something wasn't right. For instance, this character could create a bridge of shadow between two street lights at night, but that would look unnatural.

Shadow is naturally attracted to this character's presence. When they're around, the shadows feel almost alive as if they were reaching out for something. The air is different, just a smidge colder where the darkness lies. This doesn't do anything for this character, but it's a subtle tell for when they're around.

Template Three: Raven Mocker

A basic raven mocker template. Raven mockers are generally evil entities that consume the souls of dying people to fuel their own life force.

Cost:1
+ See-Me-Not:
While feasting or flying this character is easily overlooked. They are not invisible, and if someone is looking for them or knows they're in the area, this power has no effect on that person. They cannot choose whether this power is active or not.
= Human Shape: This character has a human shape that they can shapeshift into at will.
+ Flight: Because of their wings, this character can take flight for short periods of time. They have an easier time gliding than they do actually flying, which can put quite a strain on their body due to their size.
+ Soul Bandit: As a Raven Mocker, this character possesses the ability to steal and consume the soul of a dying or recently (body still warm recent) dead person. Eating someone's soul adds to their lifespan by however long the dying person had left to live naturally. If murdered, for instance, they could have naturally lived however many years, but if dying from sickness or other natural causes, it will only add minutes to this character lifetime.

This power doesn't work on Immortals. While this character could still eat a dying immortal's soul, it would add no years to their life.

This is this character's form of substance. While they are capable of eating other food, it doesn't satiate their hunger. Consuming souls are as addictive as smoking.

Reaper
For creatures of death that aren't exactly Grim Reapers. Reaper are neither fully living nor fully dead, but somewhere in between. This uses the "species: reaper" tag.

Template Zero: Custom Creation

Full custom, no template required, write what you want!

Template One: Full Reaper

A basic template for a full reaper whether born or made.

Cost: 2
- Discord: Torn between hatred and anger for humanity and a deep love for humanity, this character is continuously teetering between the two. They struggle to know which side they should fall to at any given moment. It's all too easy to break the divine rules they know they're bound to.
= Death Scent: This character always smells a little like death. Like the scent of a morgue or graveyard.
+ Unlife: Neither living nor dead, this character is stuck in the middle. They cannot die, and they do not resurrect. They no longer age and no longer need to eat, sleep, breathe, or drink. Due to this, they do not drown. When killed in other ways, they will be put into an unconscious/death like state until their body slowly repairs itself. They heal at three times the rate a normal human does.
+ Life Vision: Can see how long someone has to live. Only has a very vague sense of what it might be that kills them. Sees someone's remaining time as a countdown above their head.
+ Intuitive Killing: This character knows how to kill anything with a soul. But just because they know the means of killing something does not mean they have the skills required to do so. They only get the most effective method of killing whatever it is they're looking at.
+ Limbo Travel: This character can travel to and from limbo.
+ "Scythe:" This character has some type of "scythe." A Reaper's scythe is classified as an object with which they are bonded to. This item can touch or interact with normally intangible beings and wound creatures that don't become wounded through physical attacks alone. It cannot attack or pierce those not going against the order of life.

Template Two: Half Reaper - More Reaper

A basic template for a half reaper who is more reaper than their other half.

Cost: 1
- Discord: Torn between hatred and anger for humanity and a deep love for humanity, this character is continuously teetering between the two. They struggle to know which side they should fall to at any given moment. It's all too easy to break the divine rules they know they're bound to.
= Death Scent: This character always smells a little like death. Like the scent of a morgue or graveyard.
= Semi-Immortality: This character stops aging before they hit thirty. They can die normally.
+ Death Sense: This character can feel when someone is nearing their time of death, though they don't know the means of the death or exactly when it will take place.
+ Limbo Travel: This character can travel to and from limbo.
+ Mediumship: This character can see and communicate with spirits, even when others are unable to see them. They cannot repel them, or send them away. They do not possess the ability to command ghosts in any way, but they can touch them as if they were physical beings even when others cannot.
= "Scythe:" This character has some type of "scythe." A Reaper's scythe is classified as an object with which they are bonded to. If this scythe does anything, it should be added to this character's power section. As of right now, it is a form of comfort for this character and helps them to channel their magic.

Template Three: Half Reaper - Less Reaper

A basic template for a half reaper who is less reaper than their other half.

Cost: 0
+ Mediumship: This character can see and communicate with spirits, even when others are unable to see them. They cannot repel them, or send them away. They do not possess the ability to command ghosts in any way, but they can touch them as if they were physical beings even when others cannot.
+ Death Empowerment: This character is empowered by places of death, like graveyards and crypts. When in places like these, they have twice the amount of strength, speed, and agility than they normally do.
