"All this snow is just so crazy, and it doesn't seem to be stopping either..." Zora murmured to herself, walking slowly up the road to the school, clearing a path with the others in her group so that throughway to the academy was kept clear for staff and students or the police or any other emergency services that might be needed.

As she moved along, Zora could see her breath in the chilly morning light as she lifted and shifted the many piles of now packed snow, placing them in larger piles with a flick of her gloved hand. 'Whoever thought she'd be using her telekinesis ability for snow removal?' she mused to herself as she tightened the belt on her red winter parka type jacket and retied the scarf at her neck.

Evan, unlike most people, didn't have a choice in the matter. He had mandatory community service as part of his sentence, all to prove that he could be a productive member of society. Evan wasn't sure how productive one could be with the conditions placed on him, but... fuck it, it wasn't like he had much to lose, right?

He was bundled up in his warmest clothes and still freezing his ass off, and he had three duplicates with him on that particular day. The fifth him was holed up at home, keeping safe just in case something happened. He didn't think anything would, but... well, you could never be too careful, right?

Riley didn't mind using her powers for this - as long as she got to use them to blast things, and people appreciated her for it. She didn't even mind having adult supervision, and if she squinted, it wasn't supervision, not really. More like, she was working alongside them, like an equal.

Like that one guy, Evan. Well, he was four guys at the time, but either way. He had just been to prison, and he was pretty cool, but there was no way he was "supervising" her. Not a single one of him was. They were in this together.

"Hey, get out of the way for a second," She told someone. "I'm gonna do the thing." Holding out the handle of her shovel in front of her, she pointed it at a wall of snow over the road which, for her, was past her knees in height.

The blast was more bright and hot than concussive, making a THWUMP sound as it kicked up snow and water, and even a little bit of steam over empty snow. That was 4 meters of snow they wouldn't have to shovel, except for a few slushy parts left over that would be easier to dig into than what used to be there.

She grinned with delight.

And then it was back to using her shovel. She was pacing herself with her powers so she wouldn't run out too fast.

Fenn couldn’t help but jolt heartily everytime Riley kicked up a wicked snowsplosion, wings wrapping around himself in some reflexive bid of protection. It was lucky the snow muffled the noise of it. He didn’t want his ears blasted too.

As one of the few folks here whose active powers weren’t exactly of help — he couldn’t control his icy winds, and worse, he might accidentally make more of this blasted snow — he too was armed only with a shovel and an odd amount of determination. Fact was though, being totally oblivious to cold in the dead-middle of winter was still a nice trick.

Being 4’2” and half-buried by the continual deludge, less so.

“For once, I’m actually gonna say that I hope this snow stops,” he called over to the telekinetic as he struggled to heft another shovelful of snow overhead. Zora, right? “If it don’t, my damn apartment roof’s gonna fall inward!”

Zora looked back when she heard a voice, and jumped a little as Riley's blast went by her, not anywhere close, but the blasts were always more of a loud surprise than anything.

"I totally agree," she said, stopping for a moment to allow the cute mothlike fae to catch up to her, "I have never seen anything like this before," she told him as she moved, further up the side, and away from the road, some of the snow that he had cleared with his shovel.

"Not here, and not out there," she said as she pulled her gloves up tighter, "I have, quite literally snow drifts nearing ten feet in my backyard. The wind keeps piling it up against the fence," she added with a grimace.

"I'm Zora by the way," she said, introducing herself when they were finally walking side by side.

Just because there weren't any classes didn't mean there weren't still students. For some, power training continued, because stopping was too much of a risk. But more prominently, a huge portion of the students lived at the school even during break, and there was a steady stream of foot traffic heading down the narrow bit of path that had been cleared before any of the volunteers had arrived.

Every so often, someone would stop. A blond girl who was staring at Riley as she popped another snowbank. A small dark skinned boy with a shaved head watching the swarm of Evan's shovel. There was even a small pack of high school freshmen, whispering to each other as they watched Fenn and Zora work their way along the path.

Most people seemed like they were in good spirits, but every so often someone walked by who looked grim. The boys watching Fenn and Zora looked particularly grim, standing by as the team cleared snow.

Clearing the snow had become a daily chore for Fehr, as her house was away from the city and there was no one but her to shovel it all away. Still she wanted to contribute to the community and thus was helping clear the snow. Earlier she had scanned a large snowplow and Fehr had materialized it and was now pushing large quantities of snow to the side of the road. Very large quatities that looked too heavy for someone her size and state to be able to push. But Fehralyn could lift several hundreds of kilograms, this was nothing.

The explosions Riley was causing didn't make Fehr even flinch and she continued working tirelessly, occasionally nodding or waving if a student she taught happened to walk by. Fehr had dressed warmly and had bought a new light pink jacket recently, that she had deemed practical and a succesful purchase.
Fehralyn wasn't one to do small talk and thus she kept working on her own. Physical labour made her feel content and there was a small smile on Fehr's face as she pushed yet another large quantity of snow aside.

Evan would have said he was used to being stared at, but that was a bit of a lie. He had been used to being stared at, but the feeling was different now. He was no longer a freak show, an oddity to be gawked at. Almost no one on the island had any context for the term abberant outside of it's dictionary definition. He was a nameless, faceless man on an island filled with people even weirder than himself.

He shifted over towards another shoveler--a woman who was either very fat or very pregnant--to escape the watchful eyes as one of him glanced over their shoulder.

"So many kids. I guess they're still up at the school, even without classes?"

She'd probably know better than he would.

Fehr seized working for a moment and took a breather, leaning on the snowplow and watching the snow float down. She still had some tests and quizzes to grade over the holidays, Fehr decided to get right on that when she got home after this.
Another one of the workers, one that was creating multiple clones, approached Fehralyn and spoke to her and she turned her head slightly to look at him. Although she could see him from any position her head was in, thanks to her very wide field of vision.

"Power training still continues during the holidays, it's important for some students to keep using and practising their powers since they can potentially be dangerous. And some students can only use their powers in a safe school environment under teacher supervision."
Fehralyn explained, maybe a bit too much in detail since the man probably had just attempted making small talk.

The freshmen were talking among themselves as they watched. Most of the others had started to move on, bored by the lack of... well, excitement. Shoveling snow was not terribly enthralling by any standard, outside of Riley's rather showy explosions.

There was a small amount of conspiratorial discussion between the four freshmen, and then the group pulled back, with one of them (apparently volunteered by the others), scooted forward towards Fehralyn.

"You guys are like... volunteers, right?" The boy asked, looking so bundled up that he was probably hot. Everyone else in his group were wearing usual winter clothes, but he clearly had several layers, and kept glancing back towards the rest of the group as he waited for an answer.
