Shuji felt his shoes getting wet and then his pants as Braylar took him deeper and deeper into the river. He didn't want to get too wet, or else his clothes might smell. And who knew how long it would be until he found a laundromat. Once or twice he tried to gently pry himself off of her, but to no avail. He wouldn't want to hurt her by pulling too hard, so he just stopped. Did she think that he could breathe underwater too? He gave a somewhat worried smile until he noticed that they had stopped.

Then the bomb dropped. She had intended to drown and eat him? Why on Earth would she do that? Is that what kelpies ate, people? Shuji pondered it for a minute and realized he couldn't fault her for following her nature. He went to gently pat her neck with his free hand, but realized that it would just get stuck too and simply smiled at her.

"I take it... since you say you intended to drown and eat me, you've had second thoughts? Because, I really would like to not be eaten. I just got here after all! And I don't know how well we could get to know each other then. I think you're a really great person, Braylar-chan."

((I'm sorry for the delay. I don't know where my head has been.

Braylar could feel him trying to free himself, trying to peel himself off her adhesive skin. There wasn't much out there that could free itself once stuck: like a fly on flypaper. She wasn't concerned with his fidgeting, confident that he was her captive audience for the time being.

She lifted her head in surprise and turned it to see him with one of her eyes. He didn't immediately start calling for help. He wasn't mad. Maybe a little fearful, but if he was he was hiding it well.

Who was this man, really?

Nickering, Braylar backed up until he was clear of the water but she was still ankle-deep in it, able to feel the current against her skin. "I am not a great person. I trick people into coming with me so I can devour them. I tricked you so that I could eat you, and I have not fully decided that I won't."

Slowly, Braylar dispelled the glamour around her. The gentle mare facade melted away to reveal a sickly green demon horse. Her voluminous main became a listless mess of wet reed-like tresses, sticking to her skeletal frame. It was as if someone had taken a handful of skin and pulled it taut against her bones, every rib showed, every hip and join.

"This is me, Shujinko. This is the monster you so willingly went home with," she sneered, pawing the ground. "You are not like the other pray I target. There's more to you than you or I know, and I might wish to figure it all out. As you say, I cannot do that if I eat you."

NOTES: that's okay! Take all the time you need.

Shuji beamed. He looked at the grotesque monstrous horse he sat atop and couldn't help but break out into a big, goofy grin.
"I think it's wonderful, that you trust me enough to show me your true self. It takes a lot of courage to bare ourselves to others, especially the parts that aren't the nicest. I really appreciate that kind of honesty, and you know, regardless of what you look like it's a really beautiful quality."

He reached down and ran his fingers through the seed-like mane, his hand getting stuck to the side of Braylar's neck. Tugging just a bit, he let out a laugh and shook his head.
"Oh, oops. Guess I'm just totally stuck now, haha."

Letting his grin fade into a small smile, Shuji looked Braylar over once more as best as he could. She looked so frail like this, but he sensed that it was just the opposite. He chewed over his thoughts for a minute before continuing.
"Like I said, I would really like to not get eaten. But I imagine people are your primary diet. So, you know, I can't really hold it against you if you decided finally to actually go through with it. I've been kidnapped so many times, maybe that's why I'm as calm as I am now. Though I do have to say that this is the first time someone has wanted to eat me. So that's a first time experience."

She didn't know what to do. Never before had she encountered such a complacent victim. It was unnerving. Unsettling. And. . .somewhat endearing? No, that couldn't be right.

He explained it away by saying it happened all the time. Who was this man?

Braylar turned and trotted back up to dry land and flicked her tail a few times, though there was nothing in the world that would make her dry. The kelpie thought about just sending him home through the woods on his own, but changed her mind and started back toward the city.

Her horse disguise was back up to hide her true form by the time she spoke next. "I will not eat you, but I have a few conditions. I require meat and flesh, and I should like you to cook for me occasionally."

The words seemed strange, but also reasonable. She had spared people in turn for other things before; paintings, sculptures, etc.

"And," she continued, "one day I may eat you. I expect you to stay alive until then."
