I'd love to see a plot where someone has to pick Cassie up from detention or the principal's office or something for terrorizing her fellow students with her slingshot.

I think Hellen would be the one to do that. In front of others shed be the typical "wasn't my child" sort of parent but as soon as the got home, oh the punishments that would be administered to the unfortunate soul.
You can start it. Most likely, Cassie would've got in trouble for fighting. She doesn't get along well with kids her own age, especially those who are mean to younger kids, or mean to animals.
