Quincy's eyes widened seeing Jae smile and for a moment, he wasn't sure if he was supposed to feel happy or nervous. Before he could even decide though, Jae flushed which only made Quincy more confused than he already was. His cheeks suddenly felt warm against the ocean breeze, subtly turning his gaze away. He only heard Jae's voice, telling him to go and without saying anything, he grabbed on to Jae again, meekly signalling that he was ready for the next dive. If Quincy was going to be honest, his voice surprised him but he didn't say a word of it. Once they'd reached the edge of the sea, Quincy moved away from Jae again observing their surroundings. It didn't look like they were at th end -- the ocean and the sky only seemed to stretch on but he wasn't about to question how the island works now. Quincy stole a glance at Jae who was already admiring the stars and for a moment he just held that gaze before following suit, letting himself float on the water. Quincy kept a hand on the other's arm, feeling like he could float away from him and get lost at sea. "The edge of our world, huh?" he muttered softly. He chuckled to himself, not really knowing why he felt like he could. Quincy took another quick glance towards Jae who seemed so at peace where they were and he smiled to himself before looking at the stars. He was quiet for maybe a few minutes, before he spoke softly. "This is really nice."

The edge of the world. Jae watched the stars, and thought that somewhere up above was the space station and alien life. He thought about life before coming to Manta Carlos, when mythical creatures were just that, and magic existed in fiction. Now, he's become one of those magical beings and living with others like him.

"It is," Jae agreed. The edge of the island was like a sanctuary from the problems of life. Out here, with no land in sight, he could pretend as though he had always lived adrift on an endless sea. Though it brought him comfort, it made him feel terribly alone. Now, with Quincy, he could only feel contentment.

"Do you almost wish we could stay out here? And not return to the island?" Jae said, more to himself than Quincy.

Quincy hummed in agreement, sounding almost like a giggle. His long walks at night always just took him barely off shore, staring in the great unknown with a strange longing of how he wanted it to take him into the farther depths of it. Now he was here, floating adrift in the middle of the sea. The darkness comforted him, the twinkling stars dazzled him, and the peaceful waves of the water could have easily lulled him to sleep. Jae's voice pulled him back into the present, but his eyes didn't move away. Quincy was comfortable where he was at that moment, and he could almost wish he could just stay like this. "You know, that would actually be nice," he replied distantly.

Floating on the water besides Quincy was surreal, yet comforting. Jae could not shake the feeling that something was wrong. He wanted to stay out here, and that scared him. Worry had spread it's seeds and anxiety made it grow. What was he thinking? The ocean was dangerous and he's risked himself and Quincy by doing this.

And for what? To feel less lonely? It. . . Jae had never felt more like a siren until this very moment. His magic may desire deplorable acts, but Jae had acted on his desires without need for his magic to encourage it. The merman flipped upright, looking in all directions around them. The ocean was quiet, but he still worried.

"We should head back." Jae said, "Before it gets too late." Before any number of bad things that could happen. Again! Why had Jae brought someone this far out? No one else even knew they were out here!

Compared to Jae, Quincy seemed to be quite calm with the entire situation. While the older teen was succumbing to his anxieties, Quincy was very much comfortable with the idea of just being where they were at the moment. The ocean was calm, and he felt no bit of danger with the situation despite early warnings. In fact, there had always been a part of him that simply wanted the dark unknown to swallow him up, just as he thought it had spat him out from nothingness. Jae turned upright, pulling Quincy out of his musings and for a moment Quincy worried if Jae could sense any danger. Danger that perhaps he brought in. Quincy shoved the thought at the back of his mind, looking back into the sky as if he could figure out the time from there. "I don't think it's been that long..." he mumbled, voice trailing off. Quincy wanted to stay out more; if possible maybe he didn't even want to go home. Home. Of course, his mother would worry if he didn't come home at all. Which brought back all the thoughts her had when Jae found him in the water earlier. Still. "W-well, if you want to I guess we can go back," Quincy told Jae, though his voice clearly gave him away.

Jae heard the hesitance in Quincy's tone and ducked his head. He's the one who dragged Quincy out here, so why did he feel guilty now? Jae thought back to their meeting, then the swim out, and their floating conversation. Like him, Quincy had sought the ocean for respite and found the vastness of sky and sea calming. Then there was Jae, freaking out and trying to break Quincy from the peace he found.

It did not condone Jae's actions in any way, but he should finish what he had started. "I. . . I guess we could stay out a little longer. . . " Jae said, hesitant to say the words, but unable to deny Quincy what he had freely offered. It was a small comfort that Jae felt nothing threatening in the waters around them. But he would not delude himself into thinking that meant safety. He forced himself back into a laying position. "But not too long. You'll need some strength for the trip back."

A pause, then Jae asked, "Do you like living on the island?"

A grin quickly flashed on Quincy's face when Jae acquiesced, settling back into the water with him again. Unlike Jae, Quincy really didn't feel like worrying if there was anything swimming around them -- the ocean was empty from what he could see, but he didn't say anything of it, nor did he ask why Jae seemed anxious. "Okay, maybe five more minutes, or something," he laughed, returning his gaze to tracing the stars above them. It was then Jae threw him another question, easily catching Quincy's thoughts. "On the island?" he echoed. He thought for for a second or so, pondering about the last few years of his existence. "Well. I haven't lived anywhere else so I can't really make any comparisons." Quincy looked to the sky. "But I think I can say I like it. There's always new people I get to meet. Always something new I can learn. Sometimes I'm still surprised there's still more things outside the island that I don't know about." Curiously, he turned to Jae, "What about you?"

Jae frowned at the sky, and wondered if he liked life on the island. It was a complex answer. He grew up in Korea, and that was the home he missed the most. Hawaii was nice, and since arriving on Manta Carlos, found that he missed many things about that island. Though, Hawaii did not hold the same intense homesickness as Korea did. Manta Carlos was. . . maybe one day Jae will come to see this place as home.

"It's. . . nice." He said, not really answering the question turned on him. He sighed, and expanded upon that. "Many people here are nice, and it's nice we don't have to hide our powers or who we are." The words felt wrong leaving his mouth, as Jae still hid his powers. "There are worse places to be." He finished. Then, to hide his lackluster answer, dove into another question. "You grew up here?"

Quincy look at Jae curiously. His answer was brief, and for a few seconds Quincy waited for Jae to elaborate. Quincy turned his gaze back to the sky, the one other part of the island that reminded him how much he hadn't seen by living here, apart from the ocean's horizon. Jae continued his response and it reminded Quincy when he'd first heard that living outside the island meant having to live in hiding -- he could never really understand the idea of it, especially since he never knew any other way to live. There are worse places to be, Jae continued, and Quincy just stayed quiet, runinating in that thought until Jae threw him another question. "O-oh, uh..." Quincy struggled for words, clearly caught off guard. "Well, I guess you can say that. I... don't really have childhood memories to speak of..." he said, almost hesitantly. "But w-well! All the memories I do have were made here so I guess that's pretty much the same thing." Quincy followed that with a nervous chuckle.

Jae's eyes widened when Quincy admitted to his lack of childhood memories. He didn't know anything of his childhood? The thought made Jae's heart clench in sympathy. Perhaps because he had so many fond childhood memories of his own. That those memories were all he had of Korea. To not be rude, Jae quickly schooled his expression into something neutral. "I, um, I'm sure you'll make many good memories here." Jae said, as though apologizing for asking such a personal thing.

He looked out over the water, towards the island unseen below the horizon. "Should we head back?" Jae asked. Before he could ask anymore awkward questions. Though, added, "We can go slow if you want." Quincy could hold onto him like before, but they ould stay above the surface to stretch their time at sea. A compromise, as Jae really began to feel antsy being so far away from land. The anxious back and forth of his tail gave it away.

"We could keep talking too, if you wish." Jae finished.
