Observing...

Ariella didn't know the first thing about horses. She couldn't tell you anything about them. She didn't know what they ate or what kinds their were, and she had no clue about riding them. Yet, she couldn't help but admire them just a little. When she was younger she'd been terrified of them, though not so much anymore. Still, despite all of this, she found herself in the stables.

She'd always wanted to come down here, just so see, to look around a little. So this morning, she'd eaten breakfast and came to see the Stables. There didn't seem to be too many people, considering it was still somewhat early, and she just observed. She murmured greeting to a few people, but was quiet otherwise. Around noon, she found herself leaning back against the wall staring, unblinking, outside.

She wished it would get warmer, but she didn't dare try it, for she guessed she'd probably end up turning SA into a school in the desert. She jumped as she heard someone speak, and blinked. Whether it was to her or someone else, Ariella turned to see....

Ren lead the same mare he'd been with before out of her stall, chatting with her much like he would an old friend. He found horses easier to talk to, since he didn't have to guard himself with them. "So let's see how that leg's doing. Come on, we'll start slowly and then work up to a higher level." he talked soothingly to the horse, giving occaisional clicks to encourage her to keep moving.

As he'd suspected, the stable had leaped at the chance to have him on staff, and he was glad to work there now. It gave him extra money, and more of a chance to interact with people. He'd been doing everything from teaching to mucking out stalls, and enjoying it all. He'd taken on the job of getting the mare better as soon as he could, and after being away for a bit, he was checking to see that the stable had known what they were doing by taking off her wraps and putting her back out so soon.

Violently gold eyes watched the horse's gait carefully, as his free hand adjusted the goggles sitting around his neck. His hair stood up in random directions, as it always did when he actually had a chance to use his hair gel, and he grinned at the horse, continuing to speak to her in soothing tones. "I'm so glad we could see eachother again. I was so afraid our parents would keep us appart." Of course he was joking, but he enjoyed being cheesy to horses, and it definately made for unique conversations. Both with the horses, and anyone who decided to eaves drop.

Ariella realized that who'd spoken wasn't speaking to her or someone else, but to one of the horses. She raised an eyebrow curiously, and turned fully around to get a better view of both the boy and the horse. She absently followed them as they walked, her head titled slightly to the left in curiousity. He knew the horses couldn't understand, didn't he?

She didn't bother to ask, but kept listening. She was thankful to atleast hear someone else talking, for it had been pretty quiet here since she'd came, not many people around. They boy seemed to not mind at all that it was a horse he was talking to and not a human. It was kind of disturbing how comfortable he was here, but Ariella figured he'd just been around horses a while.

She walked a little fast, trying to hear exactly what he was saying. She caught a few of the words he was saying.

"I'm so glad we could see eachother again. I was so afraid our parents would keep us appart."

That was strange, to say that to a horse? He was kidding, she hoped. Either way, she could help but murmur "Wha?" It was a louder than she'd intended to talk, and knew he would've heard her. She realized she was being kind of rude, eavesdropping on someone ...and their horse. She couldn't help it now, what's done was done.

Ren raised an eyebrow at their eaves dropper's confusion, and he glanced confidentially at the horse, a large grin spilling onto his face, lighting up even his eyes. Before he turned around, however, he made a show of stopping the horse as he schooled his features into a totally dead pan look, even his eyes looking completely emotionless.

However, even though his face was removed from any visible emotions, he cocked his eyebrow as his gold eyes came into contact with Ariella's. Had he a hat, he would have dipped it, but as it were, he simply bowed low, and then glanced at the horse. "Well, looks like somebody decided to drop in on our conversation, Elise." he spoke to the horse in cheerful tones, and she snorted in reply. He continued to remain dead pan, holding down the laugh within with amazing finesse. "My feelings exactly." he replied to the horse, before turning and taking a long look at her, face completely straight, no possible give aways that he was playing around. At the moment, he was curious about how long he could keep her going.

Mind you, he made a point of cutting things off faster with girls than guys, since they could get dangerous, and he tended to be nicer to girls, out of habit, but all the same, he needed to exercise his non genetic talents as much as he could. And so he continued to watch her, curious as to what she'd do next.

As Ren looked at Ariella, she was surprised at his emotion, or rather, the fact that there was none. She dropped her gaze to the ground, avoiding looking at Ren. He bowed, but Ariella wasn't exactly sure how to respond to that, she gave a small, unsure, nod. Was she expected to like, bow back or something? Either way, before she could give it a second thought, he spoke.

"Well, looks like somebody decided to drop in on our conversation, Elise."

Ariella objectingly opened her mouth, turning her head towards Ren, but closed it, and bit her lip. What was she going to say? She could just imagine telling him that it was insane to talk to a horse anyways, and then him looking at her all emotionless, which was something she considered kind of creepy. So she kept quiet. Ren went on, talking to his horse.

"My feelings exactly."

She bowed her head, studying the floor awkwardly. She anxiously flipped a strand of blonde hair behind her ears and spoke shyly. Normally she wouldn't have been as hesitant to speak, but with the eaves dropping, and the emotionless boy who talked to horses, it made her rather nervous. She stammered, "I, um... I just I'm sorry," she glanced up at Ren.

Ren coughed into his hand, covering a laugh. It wasn't fair to keep her going any longer. She was most definately very uncomfortable. He continued to keep his hand over his mouth, glancing up at her, eyes now dancing with mirth.

Finally, he removed his hand from his mouth, revealing a very large grin. However, it was not a completely amused grin, and he looked a little sheepish. Like a little boy caught with the cookie jar offering a cookie to get out of trouble. He completely dropped the act, and dipped his head slightly. "No, I'm sorry. I.. Normally.. Well, actually, I do normally do that, but only to get a reaction out of people." He cleared his throat, looking a little more sheepish. Mind you, really, he wasn't feeling particularily sheepish, and her reaction was totally worth it, but this was a good way to get out of trouble, and made her feel better, because his sheepishness was one of those things that made people enjoy him. "I'm Ren..." he trailed off, glancing up at her from under his eyebrows, rubbing his chin, continuing to grin sheepishly.

Ariella heard Ren cough, but it sounded more like one of those coughs that you heard when someone was trying to cover up a laugh. She didn't give it a second thought, maybe he found something the horse said funny, not that she believed the horse could actually talk. Finally, she saw him grinning.

What was funny? She looked up at him, unsure of what he was grinning at. Had she missed something so amusing? Then, he went on to tell her it was all a joke to get a reaction. "Well, you got your reaction, didn't you?" she asked finally, and couldn't help but give him a small smile. It was one of those things you thought were funnier when they weren't happening to you. She couldn't have been mad, though, with that whole sheepish expression he had. She was actually a little bit relieved that he wasn't as insane as he had seemed, talking to horses and all.

She glanced at the horse, then to Ren, who had just finished introducing himself, "Ariella," she answered simply, nodding politely. She looked around outside, not sure what to say now. "So, you say you do that alot?"

Ren nodded. "Yeah. I do. It's nice improv practice." he shrugged, sliding his hands into his pockets. As soon as he did, the horse nudged him in the back, knocking him forward a bit. He turned around and looked at the horse, who looked almost humanly innocent. He grinned, pulling one hand out and giving her a piece of apple.

Then he turned to look at Ariella. "Nice to meet you, Ariella." he studied her face for a moment, before adding, "I don't think I've seen you around here before." in the week that he'd started working here, he'd seen most of the regulars, and he was good at remembering faces, but hers, he couldn't place.

"Yeah. I do. It's nice improv practice."

Ariella started to nod, but took a surprised step, almost jump, back as the horse moved, nudging Ren forward. She watched him feed the horse a piece of an apple, and couldn't help but say, jokingly, "I guess he asked you for that then?" She wasn't trying to be mean, she was only kidding.

"Nice to meet you, Ariella. I don't think I've seen you around here before."

"Mhm, its nice to meet you too," she agreed, and went on, "I've never really been here, actually I've never really been to any stable. I think the closest I ever got was the pony rides at the fair," she shrugged with a laugh, "I was really curious though today, and I decided to check it out," she explained. "I'm guessing you're here pretty often?"

Ren grinned, chuckling slightly as he rubbed the mare's ear. "Well, he's a she... but yeah, technically, by her nudging me, she wanted a treat. You learn to read horses after being around them for a long time." he shrugged. Whether she was trying to get his goat or joking around, he didn't really care, one way or another.

"And yeah, I'm here a lot.. Actually, I work here." he grinned at her again. "If you want, I could take you for a ride, give you a lesson or two, if you'd like." he offered. He was bored right now, he'd finished mucking out the stalls, feeding and watering the horses, and with a stable like this, there really weren't that many people who didn't know how to ride. That and he was feeling the need for some human company. Talking to a horse can only get you so far.
