Nothing to do...

The skinny teenager found a spot in the shade of a large oak tree, though she certainly didn't need it. The temperature was below freezing. The wind continued to blow harder, and Skye's long hair blocked her vision. Her gloved hands pulled it behind her ears for what seemed like the hundreth time. She leaned back against the tree, and scanned the lawn. No one was foolish enough to be out on a day like this.

She leaned her head back against the large tree and closed her eyes. There was nothing for her to do in her free period, and at the time coming outside had seemed like a good idea. She hadn't been outside in ages. She opened her eyes, and did another quick survey of the lawn. Finding nothing she could do, she began tampering with invisability. Invisable, visable, invisable, visable...This got boring pretty quickly.

She stood up and started walking along a stone path. The harsh wind blew even harder against her face. She sighed, and continued walking. Ahead of her, she saw the forest where she had battled a few vampires. A chill ran across her spine. She shuddered, and looked away quickly. The young girl began to wish that someone was walking with her...

Valaina was walking briskly across the lawn, holding her coat more tightly together to keep herself warm. She was beginning to feel trapped in the school. She knew she had needed to get out and get some fresh air. Although, the weather today was not what she expected.
When she stepped outside a huge gust of blew into her face and for a moment she wondered if coming outside was such a good idea.

She walked across the lawn, seeing only one other person outside. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy person around here, she thought to herself.

She put her hands in her pockets and made her way towards the girl.
"Unusual weather we're having today, huh?"

Skye jumped, as she was slightly startled by the unexpected girl's voice. As soon as she figured out that it was just another student, however, she became relieved. "Yeah," Skye replied, and put on the best smile she could with the wind blowing constantly at her face.

Skye then studied the girl's face closer, and realized that they had never met before. "Hi, I'm Skye. It's nice to know that there's someone besides me that's crazy enough to come out here," Skye said, and grinned.

"I'm Valaina," she said, "It's nice to meet you, Skye.

A strong gust of wind came, nearly throwing her off balance. She held her coat tighter together to block off the wind.

"I'll pretty much do anything outside, no matter what the weather," Valaina said cheerfully, "I love the outdoors."

"Yeah," Skye agreed. "Me too." She shut her eyes because the harsh wind stung them.

"So what powers do you have?" Skye asked curiously, trying to start conversation. The wind blew even harder, causing the trees to shake violently.

Valaina felt uncomfortable. She hated telling people her abilities. It made her feel less powerful compared to others.

"I can turn into a cat," she said shyly, "But when I am a cat I have good agility, I can see well, but not fully, in the dark. I can jump high and my senses are all enhanced," she said trying to defend her power, "I realize it's not as cool as being able to transport, fly, shoot fire, or levitate things as some of the other students may be able to do, but I I have learned to control my power really well."

She hoped Skye wouldn't think she was weird. She hadn't meant to blab on about her power but she felt the need for people to like her and sometimes she got carried away.

"What about you? Tell me your power."

"Oh, I've always wanted to shapeshift..." Skye replied truthfully. "Well, I can fly, move things with my mind, and turn invisable. I just found out that I can turn invisable this year. I still can't really control it, though..." she said, with a hint of dissapointment. She proved her statement by turning only half of her body invisable. "See?" she said, and laughed at herself.

"Are you new here?" she said, changing the subject. "I haven't seen you around..."

"I guess you could say that," Valaina said, still smiling after seeing Skye turn partly invisible.
"It must be fun being able to turn invisible," she said enviously, "and fly! Oh how I wish I could fly."

Shelooked up at the cloudy sky. When the weather was like this, she couldn't help but feel depressed. Things looked so gloomy and dead.

"How did you find out about your powers?" she asked, looking at Skye. "For me, it happened while I was at a party. I was new to the small town in North Dakota, where my family lives now. I didn't know anyone but still managed to get invited to a party. I was just standing in the corner, all by myself. Suddenly everything looked so much bigger. People were talking weird to me, like I was a baby, or an animal. I got angry, and I lunged myself at this boy, who I am guessing was drunk. I clawed at his face, and then ran away. I could sense something was wrong, and soon realized I had transformed, somehow, into a cat. It was weird and very unexpecting. After that night, I no longer held back from the people at my new school. I ended up making a lot of great friends, who I miss terribly right now."

Skye sighed. "I know what you mean...I just wish that I could see my friends again."

Returning to Valaina's prevous question, she answered, "Well, I always have known that I could move things with my mind, because I couldn't control it when I was a baby. When I got angry about something, things would start flying all around. It totally creeped by dad out, but my mom's mother also had powers, so that helped a lot. Come to think of it, I still sometimes can't control my powers when I'm really angry..." her voice traile off. She giggled when she remembered the last time she was mad. "As for the flying, I learned about it when I was four. My grandma had expected that I would find more powers, for some reason. I think that she could see the future or something...anyway, I was four, and it was Halloween. I was dressed up as a Super Woman, and I thought that because I was dressed like here, I could also fly like her. So, I tried, and the next thing I knew I was in the air. I wasn't that startled by this, but my parents were! And the rest of my family..." Skye finished.

Skye paused, and then began again. "When I was younger, by grandma had told me right before she died that I would find another power when I needed it most. I, being 8, found this a bit melodramitic...and i still do," Skye grinned, "but back to the point. I was in the forest, and there was a vampire, and to make a long story short, I just turned invisable." Skye looked around herself, just to see the same, ugly day. "Well, now that you know my whole life story, I'll let you talk for a while."
