Hearing the girl talk about her past, Adrian did not have any excuse to hide his past from her. "You're wrong. I am someone who deserved to be deserted. Being such a freak, I wouldn't have been suprised if they put me into that boarding school you described there." He laughed slightly in the most awkward manner he ever did. "Like you, my family were rich, but unlike you, I wasn't even allowed in any school. At first, I didn't mind, but after hearing kids about my age being able to... I dunno, say words I couldn't pronounce, I felt alone. My other personality's my only companion, but he felt the same way about all of this." Tears were gathering inside his eyes. "Then.... one night, I set a book on fire. That might not have been so bad if the fire didn't spread. At first, my parents thought I was playing with matches. The fire spread and went on through the night... I was abandoned by my parents, who escaped from the house without me. I was trapped. I thought this was it, until morning came and my personalities switched in the usual way. Then... the fire was gone. I used my ice powers to control and put out the fire. When I came out alive, my parents were not happy, but angry at me. They said something about me belonging in a circus, and shaming the family name." He tried hard to hold the tears in, and rubbed his eyes to wipe them away before the girl noticed. "I saved my own life, and they rather I died in that fire."

"You're wrong. I am someone who deserved to be deserted. Being such a freak, I wouldn't have been suprised if they put me into that boarding school you described there."

She squeezed his hand lightly, she knew he was in pain. Even if it was emotional and spiritual pain it was sometimes a pain worse than physical.

"Like you, my family were rich, but unlike you, I wasn't even allowed in any school. At first, I didn't mind, but after hearing kids about my age being able to... I dunno, say words I couldn't pronounce, I felt alone. My other personality's my only companion, but he felt the same way about all of this."

She listened silently, she knew he needed to tell someone about his pain. And she needed to help him let go of it. She saw the tears form in his eyes, she could tell he had much pain in his heart. Her eyes looked at him caringly waiting to find out what his parents had done to hurt him this much.

"Then.... one night, I set a book on fire. They said something about me belonging in a circus, and shaming the family name. I saved my own life, and they rather I died in that fire."

Her eyes softened at him anger in her heart towards his parents. She hugged him her touch warm and caring. "It wasn't your fault, they were the problem." She hugged him tightly. "If they were the kind of parents they should've been they would've saved you no matter what happened. It was a accident, and they deserted you. They are the ones at fault. You're a part of them and they treated you wrong, you were only a child. You didn't realize fire would burn more, you were just learning your power and they didn't let you learn about it the way you should've." She rubbed his back soothingly. "And if anyone deserved to die in that fire they did." She said her heart hurting for this boy, to have a family do that to him as well. It was wrong.

Adrian smiled at the girl, and his tears finally went down his cheeks. He hugged her once more, then whispered to her "Thank you." That's not the version I would have told. I mean, you got the facts right, but I'd have added the part where they apologised a few years later. Come to think of it, did they really mean it? I don't know. That's why I didn't tell her. Besides, our parents are a bunch of wa- Hey, I still love our parents to bits. Though, now that you mention it, they did dump us here. Yeah. But then again, mum did send us those things that we needed. Ok, I only hate dad then.

"My parents don't deserve to die," Adrian said suddenly. "I don't care what they did, they're still my parents. I'm just.... angry at them. But they'll have had a reason for their actions... I think." Adrian was not sure what to think anymore. Retelling his story made him realise the true nature of his parents. The ones that fed him, clothed him and gave him a home left him to die that night. He stood up, and screamed really loudly, but not as high pitched as when he cut himself, and set his painting on fire. His best painting was going to be destroyed, but he didn't care anymore. He wanted to let out his anger. His temperature rose so much he was sweating in the cold night. He had lost control... he shouldn't be feeling that warm when it was so cold.

"Thank you."

She smiled lightly glad he was finally letting it out. It was better than holding it in all the time and letting it bother him in his mind. She knew he had to heal, he knew it was going to be hard for him when the truth hit him.

"My parents don't deserve to die, I don't care what they did, they're still my parents. I'm just.... angry at them. But they'll have had a reason for their actions... I think."

She looked at him, she knew his pain all too well. She had spent years believeing her parents actually gave a care. She had made tons of accuses for them, but it was never enough. She never was good enough for them, she had to run away in order to escape the torment of their hate. She watched him stand up, and scream seeing him set fire to the painting, she quickly put it out with water it wasn't burning long enough to do much damage. She got up and hugged him tight, she felt his tempature rising. She controled her body's water to a cool tempature trying to cool him down and sooth him with her body. She knew some fire users had a ill effect when water touched them, so she decided to use her flesh as water because it wouldn't harm him. She hugged him tight and whispered, "It's okay, let it out." She could put out any fire he set, even if he burnt her she could use water from her body to put it out. She was there for him, she wasn't going to leave him anytime soon. Her arms were tight around him, she held back tears. Remembering the time she realized her parents were no good, horrible people. She remembered just wanting to die. She didn't want himt o deal with that alone.

Again, the girl hugged Adrian, who somehow felt a lot cooler. This calmed him down quite considerably, and he didn't need to set fire to anything anymore. He also saw that his painting was not ruined. In fact, the painting seemed to be perfectly fine to him. He continued to hug the girl. His remaining tears flowed down his cheeks, not out of anger, but because at least someone was there.

She hugged him tightly, she let him cry. She knew he needed to, he needed to know someone was there for him. His parents were lowlives to desert the boy, he needed someone dearly. Just like she had and still did, she didn't want him to ever feel alone or deserted. Because she knew the pain of it, she didn't let go nor show any signs of letting go soon. She wasn't going to leave him, he was suffering so long alone. She couldn't ignore him, she knew too well of his pain. She'd stay as long as she was wanted, she didn't care if it was late or cold. He needed her, she'd be there for him.
