Not exactly a moonless night

Adrian heard the girl's comment and said "Thanks." Noticing that she looked very sad, he was about to ask her what was wrong when he noticed the scars on her arm just before she put her glove back on. He figured that perhaps she didn't want to talk about it.

He kept his question to himself, but seeing as the girl was so sad, he couldn't bear it any more. "What's wrong?" he finally asked her. That's the spirit. Anything could be wrong with her.

"Thanks."

She looked at her gloves thoughtfully, remembering how her parents never came for her no matter how many letters she managed to sneak out of the reform school . They always said she was lying and told them to punish her ten times more. She hated them, she hated how they could be so cruel to their own daughter, to not even believe her. She couldn't erase the pain nor could she lose the scars because of their uncaring cold heartless selves.

"What's wrong?"

She looked towards the ground, "I..." She shivered again from the cold night's air. She didn't want to be alone. But she didn't know what to tell. She hung her head, a tear falling onto her lap. She felt so alone and sad. Another tear followed the first one, she tried to pull herself together. She couldn't let a friend she just met hours befor esee her cry. She tried to force it back in.

Adrian saw that the girl was crying. Was it bad timing? Was it a secret? Or was she just generally upset? He attempted to put his arm around her, hoping to at least comfort her a little bit. Hey, I should be doing that. I'm the one in love, remember?

His arm went around her, she normally would've hit anyone who touched her. Mainly from all her bad memories, she didn't feel that he was like them. She felt so overcome with sadness, she cried against his chest. Tears coming faster, she needed to cry. Too much had happened in her life, too many times she was left alone with the mind that hated herself. She hated herself for being weak, she hated to feel so hurt. She hated herself for not being loved by her parents. She never would've cried in front of him if he hadn't put his arm around her. That one touch of kindness made her emotion cold shield fall apart.

Suprisingly, the girl let Adrian touch her. In fact, she was crying on his chest. "Shh," he said very softly, mostly to let her know she wasn't alone. Whatever she was upset about, she reminded him of life before his personalities split.

He was a normal kid. Friends, family, a normal education, a proper home... all taken away from him because of that one day when he suffered for no reason. That headache, that feeling of coldness, the uncontrollable twitches. He thought he was going to die, but it was much worse than that. Unbearable pain followed through the night in hospital. He was deaf to all but his own screams. He was blind to all but the colour red. That bloody red. He lost all feeling except of pain. He couldn't remember anything except a wanting for death to carry him to the afterlife. But death did not come for him. Instead, the feelings died down slowly. After the pain was all gone, he was crying like never before.

He could never forget that day.

He therefore let the girl let all the tears she had to shed out. He did not try to cheer her up, in case she would be even more upset, or in case she started hating him. Besides, he still didn't know what was wrong. All he could do was hug her. Perhaps that was all he needed to do.

"Shh,"

She slowly stopped crying, staying against his chest. She felt so warm there, she didn't feel so alone. She closed her eyes tears slowly stopping running down her cheeks. She didn't know why she felt so comfortable with him. She didn't care at the moment, she just needed to be comforted. And this was how she was, she didn't want to move from his chest. She felt if she did all the cold hard emotions would come back. The negative thoughts had been forced out of her, but she was afraid they'd come back. She didn't want to be alone, she hated being alone. But she knew she'd have to be alone again, she just didn't know how to handle the pain of being alone.

She stayed against his chest wishing she could just die at this moment in time so she wouldn't have to go back into a lone existance with pain. She stayed in his warm arms, he felt so warm. She relaxed slowly feeling at peace, as if his presence alone chased away the sad thoughts. She fell asleep in his arms suddenly.

Adrian continued to hug the girl, whose crying had stopped. At least I can cheer people up. He felt her breathing softly, and felt relaxed. He slowly lay down, so that he could continue to support her. He didn't realise that she had fallen asleep, and his thoughts slowly drifted towards the moon. For the first time in years, he fell asleep on a weekday.

"Adrian. The doctor gave us the results. I... I don't know how to say this, but you're not well. You'll never be well again. Your brain seems to have split into two. I don't know how long you will last. He... the doctor that is... gave you two days. Adrian, can you even hear me? Are you awake?" Sobbing. Ok, I'm on a bed. And I'm apparently going to live for two days. Crap. Have I slept through my life? So short.

An image. I'm scared. Mum? Dad? Where are you. Why are you running from me? "I'm sorry, Adrian." Sorry? Sorry that you'll abandon me before my death? I don't want to die. I want you to be by my side. Help. No matter how much I run, they're going further away from me. Why?

Adrian woke up suddenly. The moon was still there, though a little lower than before. Panting, he looked around without sitting up. The girl was still laying next to him. Awake? He wasn't sure.

She had no dream, she awoke to him panting. She looked at him worried, she hadn't left his chest. She didn't want to, she felt so peaceful there. She looked up at him worry in her eyes, she eased herself off of his chest. She knew there was something bothering him, she placed her hand on his. "I'm sorry if I caused any trouble." She said to him lightly. Her eyes showed concern, she cared for the boy. He was the closest friend she had at the moment. "Do you want to talk about it?" She could sense he had a bad dream possibly memory she didn't want something to bother him.

She didn't move her hand from ontop of his, she was worried about him. She wanted to let him know she was there, she never saw herself finding a friend so quickly. But since she had, she wanted to help them, like they had helped her.

Continuing to pant, Adrian looked at the girl. "Yeah. It was a nightmare... I dreamt that I was dying, and that my parents were abandoning me... running away from me. It was only a dream though." That, of course, was a half truth. He was never close to death in his life, but he was abandoned by his parents. He was dumped here in this academy, and despite the fact he enjoyed it here, he wanted to be home. But he couldn't go home now. His parents didn't want him anymore. He didn't want to tell the girl that part. It was too upsetting for him. He looked at the girl and said. "I'm alright now." That was a definite lie.

"Yeah. It was a nightmare... I dreamt that I was dying, and that my parents were abandoning me... running away from me. It was only a dream though. I'm alright now."

She looked at him, she could tell he wasn't telling the truth she knew this lie too well. She picked up his hand she took it in her's and gave it a light squeeze. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me. You don't have to lie about something though." She said looking at him with eyes that understood what it was like to be unloved or abandoned.

"My parents hate me, they weren't fit to be parents. They deserted me at reform schools never visiting and whenever I'd tell them I was being abused there they'd tell the people there that I was such a little liar and to give me ten times the disciple to reform me into a good little girl. My parents were rich, they never treated me like their daughter though. They could've sent me to at least a legitimate reform school, but they sent me to one with a suspecious background which other people talked badly about. They never believed me their own daughter who never asked for anything but their love. They sent people after me to act like they cared, but I was always sent back to the same abusive school or one that was worse." She felt she could tell this to him now, "If your parents did anything to you, they aren't worthy parents. You may love them with all your heart, but they never change when thy are worthless parents."

She realized she was a bit rough on them. She looked down, "I'm sorry, it's just... I've been there before, I reckonize when someone's holding something back or inside themselves. The dream wouldn't have bothered you that much if you knew your parents would never desert you. It shows your parents are cowards if they run from you who they made themselves." She sighed. "I'm sorry I'm being rough on them, but your someone who has no reason to get deserted."
