He found himself wrapping his arms around, it was more comforting than anything. Even more than when he'd held his girlfriend, a bit more doubt stepped forward, but it wasn't the time to think about such things.

"I'd gathered enough.....maybe just enough get out," he sighed a bit, "get out of that city, maybe find help for the other kids." His left hand started to tremble again, he felt so much guilt for this, though most would say he shouldn't.

"Garet.....found out somehow...," he said with a very shaky breath, "I don't know how....but he did." He gritted his teeth, tears appearing in his eyes, he'd been through so much, so much pain and suffering.

Anna wished desperately that she could be of more help, do something...anything to ease his pain. She could pretty much sense it, hear it in his voice, feel it in the way he shook as they held each other. Her arms tightened a little as he started to choke on his words. "It's okay," she told him, "I'm here for you." She wasn't sure how much comfort that would provide. Perhaps with her powers, she could do a little more.

"Let me take the pain away," she told him, slowly transitioning from calm to joy and letting it drip like a leaky faucet. "I can't bear knowing that you feel like this," she added with a sigh, gradually opening up the floodgates and letting the joy seep into him. She wanted him to be okay, to feel like...he was safe, that what happened to him in his past wasn't going to happen again.​

He felt the joy enter him, and couldn't help but snug Anna closer. The troubled young man, could feel the emotion transfer take affect, but what he was about to tell her truly haunted him, the guilt was terrible.

"I killed him....," he said in a half whisper, just loud enough to happen. "I..I don't know what happened...he...he attacked...and his gun went off," the tears started silently falling.

"All the things he'd done....but...," he trailed off, people would say he shouldn't feel guilty, but he did. James was idealistic, he didn't want to hurt anyone.

Despite her efforts, she could still sense his despair as he managed to get the words out that he'd been holding in for...who knows how long. Anna relaxed against him, holding her joy back a little so she wasn't trying to drown him in it. If other emotions were too strong, her powers simply just didn't work like they usually did, and it was probably for the best that she let him process those emotions.

"You did what you had to do," she murmured to his chest. He must have felt awful. She knew first-hand how death could affect people...it certainly still affected her in some ways that she didn't really care to admit. Being the cause of someone's death...was probably even harder to deal with. She didn't really know what else to do but be there for him.​

"Y-yeah...maybe I did," he looked down at her as the tears finally stopped. He didn't feel alone around her, she just made things seem better and it wasn't just the emotional powers.

His mind started to calm as he continued to look at her, he'd always doubted his emotions, been afraid of them. They very rarely seemed right, but looking at Anna, he didn't really understand what he was feeling, but it wasn't doubt.

"I owe you so much....," she'd done a lot for him, more than anyone ever had. "Thank you so much," reaching down, he brushed some hair out of her face.

Anna glanced up at him as he started to calm down, feeling his pulse slow beneath her hand that was resting against his chest. She offered a smile as he brushed hair from her face. "You don't owe me anything. I'm here because I care about you, and I'm your friend. This is just what friends do," she told him, glad that she'd at least been of some help.

The joy grew in her chest involuntarily and seeped into him, becoming stronger as she relaxed into the feeling. Yawning, she settled into her bed and closed her eyes. "You should sleep," she muttered, though she was likely to fall back to sleep herself, laying here.​

His eyes closed and sleep took him, his arm still around Anna. If anyone would have seen, they would have guessed them a couple.

So he slept, the first peaceful sleep he'd had in a long time. All thanks to this girl, his emotions were a mess, but that was a problem for another day.
