Malara had an office, now! Chloe was amazed, walking through the office building, seeing all of Malara's new underlings. She knew Malara had been a sexy god of space-conquest for centuries, and leadership skills probably came with that. Even so, she still couldn't imagine Malara as a CEO - it ran against so much of what Chloe knew and believed about Malara. Even now, as Malara's new empire lay before her, Chloe was having trouble believing it. She seemed so much more responsible, now.

A secretary led Chloe to Malara's office. She had a secretary now!

Malara was finishing up her work for the day, and then they would be able to go hang out. They had a lot to talk about.

Chloe wasn't alone in her surprise at Malara's sudden change in occupation. Nearly everyone she had told had, at least, raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
Not that Mal could blame them. Her usual demeanor didn't lend itself to someone who could handle authority.

Yet here she was, standing rather than sitting, talking loudly and authoritatively with someone on the phone.
In her suit, with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, Mal almost looked professional. Maybe showing a bit more cleavage than was usually office appropriate, but there was only asking so much of the demigoddess.

Getting the memo that Chloe was coming in, Mal wrapped up her conversation and clicked the headset to end the call. She grinned at the other woman, throwing her arms wide.

"Chloe, babe! Glad you could make it. What do you think of the place? It's not quite 'me' yet, but we're getting there."

"I'm impressed with it! You have so many minions now!"

She moved in for the hug. Her only complaint was the ponytail. Malara had one of the best heads of hair on the island. Seeing it tied back felt like watching a crime in progress. She was absolutely torn on whether or not to mention it.

"Displaying some weapons on the wall could be a cool touch," she suggested with a smirk. "So nobody forgets you're a sexy goddess of conquest. How have the first few days been?" She had no idea what Malara's leadership style would be like. Hopefully nobody was jumping ship in a vote of no confidence. She could imagine things going that poorly. But at the same time, she could imagine them going extraordinarily well. Malara used to command armies, after all.

Mal hugged Chloe tight, lifting her a bit and giving her a quick kiss on the lips before releasing her.
"Weapons? Yeah, probably. Maybe put my flails on permanent display. Not like I need them here."

Gesturing to the stacks of paperwork on her desk, Mal let out a laugh that was more of a sigh. "Things have been hectic as fuck here. I'm delegating the stuff I don't understand to others, but it's still a ton of work for me. Hopefully once everything is set up I'll be able to just let the people under me carry the day to day stuff."

"But what about you? How has school been? You're over the March Virus, at least. I'm glad." Mal leaned back on the desk, resting her hands on the wood. She smiled at Chloe, looking her over.

Chloe was dressed casually. Her skirt ended a few inches above her knees, and the style of blouse she was wearing left her shoulders exposed. She laughed a little at being picked up.

"I couldn't do work when I was sick, but I think I'm caught up now. Most of the other college students with Toskada will probably need extensions on... well, everything." She shrugged. "So I have a lot more time than I would, otherwise."

She felt like she understood the look Malara was giving her. Her mouth bent into a mischievous grin. "Do you want me to intern here? Help you keep your energy up for all-nighters at work?" Chloe knew exactly where Malara's energy came from, and Malara knew that Chloe knew.

"Oh is that an offer, Chloe? I mean, there is plenty of room on my desk. And underneath it."
Mal laughed and shook her head, dismissing the idea with a wave. "Nah though. I've made a decision not to mix business and pleasure. It's why I never tried to get a job at Temptations, as damn good as I'd be at it."

Mal undid the buttons on her suit jacket and peeled it off, then worked on some of the upper buttons on her blouse. More cleavage.
At the same time Mal let her hair down, briefly turning it into fire long enough for the hair tie to slip loose.

"I'm glad you're caught up though. Maybe you, Pan, and I can go celebrate that and my takeover sometime. Drop the girls off with Jafar or Saeta. Put on a pot of coffee for Pan, some margaritas for us."
Once she looked less business, more casual, Mal put her hands on her hips and shot a smile at Chloe.

"For now though it's just you and me. What ya wanna do? I could give you the grand tour. Or we could just fuck off, go grab a bite to eat somewhere. I'm game for anything really, hun."

Chloe had been offering that in jest, but she was secretly disappointed. There was a lot of space under that desk, after all. Nobody would ever have to know she was down there. But she wasn't disappointed for long. A celebration with Pandora and Malara sounded like a lot of fun, too. "That'd be awesome."

Malara looked a lot more... correct, in a casual outfit with her hair down. Or, when it was fiery, she supposed 'up' would be a better descriptor.

"Why not a bit of both? I could eat, but I also kinda want to see what you're up to here."

Chloe had a few things she needed to get off her chest to Malara, and getting food would be a great time for that. She didn't feel like anyone else would understand. But she was also scared of her feelings, and scared of what it would mean to give them voice. The longer she put it off, the longer she could live in a world where these feelings were only private, sheltered thoughts and not volatile words, ready to blow up in her face.

Mal slipped an arm around Chloe's waist, pulling the two of them close together. "Alright, a quick tour and then we eat."
She quickly asked the secretary, Dey, to lock things up when she was finished. Then Malara whisked Chloe further into the building.

The tour took them though the studio, showing where the pictures of the models were taken. Makeup and the dressing rooms. The designers' studios, where new ideas for the Muse lines were drafted up. And the basement level, which Mal had converted into R&D for giving Muse a magical edge in the mundane marketplace.

As they walked, Mal was mildly distracted by the emotional turmoil coming off of Chloe. It was unsettling, that something other than Nasci could push this much fear and loathing to the surface in the seemingly unflappable woman.

As the tour pressed on, Mal couldn't take it anymore. No one was around in the particular hallway they were in, so Malara boosted her strength once and gently pushed Chloe against the wall.
"Babe. You're killing me over here. Fear. Worry. Anger. I haven't tasted you this riled up since our movie night. What's up?"

Her fear spiked. Of course Malara would have been able to tell. Chloe kept forgetting how good Malara was at that.

"It's..."

She swallowed. Her back was against the wall. She had to say it. She looked around, making sure nobody was around who would hear. Malara would only barely be able to hear her.

"It's just. I don't think I... that I want to do the things my dad wants me to do with my life." She laughed at herself. "When I put it that way it doesn't sound like a big deal."

She was afraid for her life. She was afraid for her daughter's life. She was even afraid of going home now - her father would somehow know that she said this, that she was thinking of escaping. He would do something to make sure she never got the chance. He was capable of that.

Chloe trembled.

The trembling was just an accent, a visual cue that only solidified the terror seeping off of Chloe. Malara used to revel in fear this intense. Maybe she still did, it was hard to tell. But not when it was someone she cared about.

Reaching up, Mal stroked Chloe's cheek. Gentle touches, the kind she had given Dalia back when her daughter was waking up with nightmares about the centipede. "Hun. It's okay. I get it."

This was not really a conversation to be had in a hallway, even an empty one.
"Maybe we cut the tour short? Go grab that bite to eat and talk about this?"
