Hella's lips twitched the tiniest amount when Smokey started talking about the Fae. If Eldritch followed similar modes of morality, then she was in for a really bad time. "Yes, I've bumped into Fae once or twice. I think I get it," was all she said, not really wanting to get into it here. It made her feet ache.

"So they aren't directly hostile, but they might be." Hella was collecting her thoughts as she skimmed the books on the shelves, trying to figure out what to ask next. "Are they all... mmm, how to put it. Misshapen? Gah, that isn't the right word. But close enough I suppose."

She briefly paused and turned to focus back on Smokey. She chose her words carefully, a bit perturbed at how easy it was to fall into Fae niceties. "I must seem so rude, picking your brain like this. The help is appreciated however. Truly."

Distracted by looking for a good book for Hella, Smokey missed the twitch of her lips. The brusque way she responded was what made Smokey feel more certain that they did step into sensitive territory.

Fortunately, the conversation didn't end there. Hella still had questions to find and Smokey still had the intention to help out.

"You're not being rude at all. I'm always happy to find someone interested in learning about a topic I like. And I think the more humanoid they can look, the more intelligent they are. Means they can better camouflage among the masses without turning everyone crazy. I guess in a way, that makes the less sapient ones more dangerous. They don't have the forethought or ability to use a form that will keep them hidden and safe to view. You're less likely to encounter them in a city, but if you do meet one, you'll see what you can't comprehend."

As Smokey said this, they pulled out a book, carefully skimmed through the pages, then closed it with a satisfied nod. Moving towards Hella, they held the book out for her to take. "This should be good. A Third Dimensional Being's Guide to Eldritch and Their Magic. Give it a look. From what I skimmed over, it gives a dumb-down, summarized version of the most well-known and common eldritch and common magic used. Nothing here is supposed to be for the more experienced."

"That makes sense," Hella admitted, thinking back to the form she had seen. It hadn't turned her off or anything: she was a necromancer. Body horror and gore were sort of part of the job. But that kaleidoscope of wolfish forms... it definitely had seemed feral, even if Aura had still been mostly in control. So whatever it was... it probably wasn't intelligent itself. "I suppose I'll know better when I see one up close for myself."

Taking the book and holding it to her chest, Hella let a smaller, more genuine smile pass her lips briefly. "This should help a lot, actually. The magic I am used to is pretty far removed from... all this. Bizarre to most, I'm sure. But it at least makes sense. Has rules that people can know and remember."

"I have so much to catch up on. Your help is really appreciated, honestly. I am definitely going to have more questions as I dig deeper into the subject. If you don't mind me seeking you out then, I mean."

Smokey felt unsure about how Hella wanted to see a possible feral eldritch up close, but it wasn't their place to judge her. She was doing what Smokey did when they first became interested in eldritch stuff: research and setting up safety precautions. She didn't want to end up acting like how Altizica acted towards them early on. They were sure she would be fine. She was no longer alone in her research.

"I don't mind at all! Again, I'm happy you're interested in something I like. I might even end up coming to you so we can study together. I think it'd be really fun. Don't you?"

Since Smokey was surrounded by books on the subject of eldritch, they decided to pick out a book about them to replace the book they planned on returning. It was about time they got caught up on their eldritch research. It was irresponsible to slack off on this kind of subject.

Hella watched Smokey grab another book, making a mental note of the cover so that she could come back and get it when she was more well versed on the subject. She seemed lost in thought for just a moment before snapping back to their conversation. "Ah yes. Of course. It would be nice to study with someone rather than just by myself. Fun, even," she added with a slight smile.

From around the shelves, several small stuffed animals began to collect around Hella's feet. Some carried books, while others held notebooks and pencils in their stubby, paw-like hands. Lars, the moose, took up the forefront and glanced between Hella and Smokey before giving his master a greeting squeak.

"Ah, it seems that my babies are done with their errands." She paused, taking a long breath in before continuing. "Thank you for your help. It really is appreciated. And hopefully this book will help jump start my knowledge on the subject."

Smokey wondered if Hella's pause during the conversation meant hesitance of studying together. Her reply said that wasn't the case, but they still made a note if it came up again.

That concern got pushed far back in Smokey's mind when they saw Hella's plushies. Their eyes widened as they looked over the animated creatures. So captivated by them, Smokey nearly forgot to reply to Hella.

"A-Ah, right. I mean, I'm sure it will." They struggled to hold back a dorky smile, so they let it all out. "I'm really happy I met you. When we meet again, I want to learn all about your plushies. They're amazing." The excitement was getting to Smokey. Their voice was exiting the realm of a whisper. Realizing that, they decided to wrap up this interaction.

"I should get going. You can often find me around here after school, and if not here, the lake's the next best bet. See ya, now." Before walking away, Smokey gave Hella a big smile and waved energetically at her plushies.
