Speechless for a moment, not sure what to say, Ivana was, in short, fascinated by her neighbours. Not only were there obvious space artifacts and weapons here - something that lowkey interested Ivana.

She also loved the dynamic between the couple. They seemed oddly suited to one another. One serious and quiet, the other vivacious and a clear extrovert. It was clear that here that opposites did attract.

"Sure, I will keep that in mind," she said as she glanced at all the boxes in the room ready to begin helping out if needed.

Glancing down though, she saw Starlight curled up at her feet, and forgetting it was mechanical, she decided to stay put a moment longer as she didn't want to disturb the little dragon.

"Me? Well, I am what is called a firefighter. I am the chief officer of one of the main branches," she explained amiably. "And in answer to the human question, well, mainly because they are a superstitious race that fears anything seemingly different to them," she replied as diplomatically as possible.

"Interesting, I was a medic. Did everything from giving the little lemmings a painkiller when they subbed their toe to emergency operations and grafting on limbs. I served on an emergency response ship for a while, doing the whole mobile hospital thing. Firefighters went into some scary places to put things out." Sacre said, getting more comfortable with Ivana.

She looked at a pile of boxes, and began to sort through them. "Knives, knives, more knives. Ah, pots and pans. We're puting them below and to the left of the oven." Sacre said, putting three boxes aside before pushing the pots and pans to the side.

Ivana perked up when she heard Scre had been a medic.

"Lord, tell me about it. We have had some pretty harrowing experiences. A few years ago I did a stint on the space station and there were a few times I was seriously worried that a gasket might blow and we'd have the station go into full lockdown." she explained as incorporate herself, careful not to disturb the dragonettes, as she went to help Sacre with some boxes.

Sacre nodded as the two worked together to put everything in the kitchen up, "I've never tried to stop something blowing up before. It's probably a lot harder than making something blow up. I've put kittens back together after they've been blown up, and that's..." Sacre paused, her poor attempt at friendly banter accidentally hitting one of the landmines in her memory. So many dead, so many that she couldn't help. The snake-woman shook her head trying to clear it. "tragic. My homeworld when I was growing up was a very pretty jungle. I'd slither around it hunting game, hiding under a rock, looking up at the beautiful stars. Leaving was probably a lot easier then it should have been. Where did you grow up?" Sacre asked.

"Actually, I'd say about the same. You 'd be surprised how many people end up blowing themselves up, or having a device explode on them before they can set it," Ivana said, falling into talking about shop very easily.

Hearing Sacre talk about the kittens, Ivana shot her an understanding look. It didn't matter the species, she understood how hard it was to lose those one swore to protect.

"I was born many centuries ago when fairies and dragons still could wander the world with relative freedom," she said with a tiny sigh. "Now, Earth is a very different place," she explained as she set a box on a table.

"Yeah, didn't they just manage to get to their moon?" Kara asked from the living room. "Like, guys, it's just space travel. Figure it out already. Sooner they do that, and meet some aliens, the sooner you guys can stop hiding, right?"

Sacre gave a look at Ivana, in her home dimension, Sacre's species was a tiny minority. Sacre uad grown up in a world without rockets or spaceships of any kind, a medieval level of technology that couldn't imagine flying in space except in myth and legend. "That's not always how things work. Freedom once lost is most often redeemed in blood. Fear is a powerful motivator, especially when it's something close to home."

"I don't know..." Ivana admitted as she moved around the kitchen placing pots and pans where directed.

"Mankind is just so scared and wary of anything that doesn't look or act like them," she said as she looked at Sacre while answering Kara's statement about space travel. "I am not sure encountering aliens will help the supernatural cause."

"Fair. Even we went to war with other species, and we were already a conglomerate of like, ten different races." Kara shrugged.

There was a pause.

"Are there fox people here, Ivana?" she asked suddenly, a hopeful gleam in her eyes.

The tiger girl was almost bouncing on her feet in excitement.

Kara liked animals.

"Oh my empress, we used to have these fox people in our ranks and their tails were sooooo fluffy! Are there dog-people?! Do they let people cuddle them?! I know I can't pet the dragons anymore but what about werewolves?!"

She didn't seem to be taking breaths. That was her super-soldier DNA in action. Fixate on a target, and nothing else. Do absolutely everything in your power to reduce it to a pile of smoldering ashes.

Without anything to destroy it translated to something like: Fixate on a subject (animals), and nothing else. Do absolutely everything in your power to pet all of the animals and ensure their well-being.

It was perfectly normal if Ivana found it a little off-putting. Many did.

"Fox people? Oh, you mean Kitsunes," she said with a grin, now understanding Kara's question.

"Yes, we do have quite a few living on the island," she explained as she leaned back against a kitchen counter.

"In fact, there is actually a Kitsune working at the station, she eventually hopes to be a firefighter," she elaborated as she told Kara about their receptionist - slash - dispatcher.

As the tiger woman's enthusiasm grew, Ivana had to laugh.

"Yes, the island is home to all types of beings... bakenekos, werewolves, bear-shifters, dragons, lamias, merpeople..." she said as she enumerated some of the species on the island. "Oh, phoenixes too," she added warmly.

"However, as cute as they are... you do need to ask first if you can pet or cuddle," Ivana informed her, realising that as a dragon, she herself had never had that problem... probably because dragons were scary creatures generally.

"People are generally not fond of unexpected hugs." she added, not unkindly, but just as a warning.
