This island was strange. Tsepha knew that, but they had hoped this weird Secret Santa thing would be an easy way to bribe themselves a new ally. They should have known an event that got you to bribe strangers would not be that simple. The list they were given should have made things easier. Unfortunately they were unfamiliar with most of the terms. And after attempting to find recipes on the internet had given them 50,000 results, Tsepha was wary of attempting that again.
Eventually, thanks to the fact that writing was something they recognized, they were able to find a gift they hoped would get this Michi to like them. And they had even gotten it wrapped on the advice of the salesperson, though they were not sure what the point of hiding the present was when it had been on full display in the store and the wrapping paper was not very good camouflage. The bright red would have stuck out anywhere. Tsepha got around that by hiding it under their coat and shadow hopping to their dorm where they kept the gift until it was time to give it.
When it was time for the actual exchange, Tsepha was glad this Michi person was also a student because it meant meeting in a place that was at least familiar enough to them that they would not fall out of a tree getting there. It was late afternoon when Tsepha arrived in the courtyard. A nice day with just a dusting of snow on the ground, but chilly enough that they'd only arrived 15 minutes early to watch from a shadow. They could've arrived right on time, but even if this was a group event they saw no reason to let down their guard.
Tsepha stayed, still and silent in the shadow of a bench waiting for Michi to arrive. They wanted at least a minute or so to observe before revealing themself.
