"So...going by those prints I'm guessing you can turn into something semi aquatic?" she'd ask as she lead her out of the dorm. "Or at the very least you really like water?" she'd ask as she lead her down the hall.

"Ok, so, we have a big pond on school grounds but it's kinda frozen right now," she'd explain as they went along. "There are rivers and such in the forest, but that can be a bit of a trip."

She'd make a turn, stopping at some doors. "So maybe you'll like this," she'd push them open revealing the large school pools. "Whatcha think?"

Flicker carried along beside Xera, nodding and making minor comments of acknowledgement whenever social etiquette deemed she should. As she walked, she tried to take note of the wall colors, the floors, and any art or notes on the walls and doors. The most notable differences were the name plates signifying who lived where, and the numbers beside them. She'd find one of these as a landmark and use it to find her hall.

Then, Xera showed her the pools, which she hadn't seen before, and Flicker stopped dead in her tracks.

"This place has _water_?! Even at home, we'd have to _go_ somewhere. What..." She eyed the geometric shape, the even walls, the slow tapering of thefloor to deeper water. It was clearly artificial, and definitely not a lake because of that, so... "...What do you call this?"

"It's called a swimming pool," she'd say, watching Flicker curiously. "A place where students can go to swim, that way aquatic students don't have to go far for a dip," who knows, maybe it'll help keep her roomie from making to many water messes in the dorm.

"I come here sometimes too," she tried to time it to where she could swim alone, which wasn't easy. "Its always open for use, so you can some here when you want," she'd say with a smile.

"So, yeah," she'd stretch a bit. "Should be fun."

Flicker couldn't keep her joy to herself. As Xera spoke, an excited smile slid slowly and surely across her lips, as she strolled closer to the edge of this... 'swimming pool.' She was kind of relieved, honestly. Though the concept and context were foreign, her language had words for both swimming and pools of some kind, and so there were no new words to memorize this time. Flicker bent down, and ran her fingertips through the water.

"I love it," she said after a moment, "it's awesome."

And then she cupped her hands, brought the water to her lips, and sipped.

She'd blink in confusion work when her friend went to drink the water. "F-Flick no," she'd crouch beside her, gently holding her hand to keep her from drinking more. "Not for drinking hon, just for swimming in," she'd chuckle, "probably not healthy to drink."

Xera would pat her back. "You can come here and swim to your hearts content," she'd pause and shrug, "hell maybe I'll join you sometimes." She wasn't confident in how she'd look in a bathing suit, but maybe if it was just the two of them.

She'd smile. "So, yeah, I had a feeling you'd like it," she'd say with a chuckle.

Flicker froze, her hand already half-way back to her lips with another promised gulp. She swallowed the sip already in her mouth, and let the water in her hands fall back into the pool. A warm, plum-tinted blush spread across her cheeks. She felt kind of dumb, but, how was she supposed to know? With that, the selkie straightened up beside Xera after receiving her due back-pat of sympathy.

"That'd be nice, actually. And I love it. But..." her head tilted to the side, blush still lingering, "Why is it bad to drink? I don't," a quick glance at the water, "see any bugs in it. Or anything."

"The way they clean it makes it not great to drink," she'd shrug, "they have to make it to where its safe to swim in for as many beings as they can." She'd scratch the back of her head. "Besides a bunch of people you don't know swim in it," she'd say with a small chuckle.

"Anyways, uh, whenever you wanna swim it's always open," she was kinda curious about where this odd girl came from. "Theres stores you can get bathing suits from, unless you exclusively swim in your animal form," she still wasn't really sure what that form was.

She'd notice a few kids giving Flick a weird look so she'd glare at them until they stopped. "You hungry?" she'd ask, "wasn't sure if you've been shown the cafeteria yet."

The selkie hmmed, and thought about that for a moment. "But... Tons of people I don't know swim in rivers. I drink from those all the time..." She trailed off, looking a bit like the math lady meme (which she had not seen yet), as she listened to the rest of Xera's explanation. She nodded at the subject of bathing suits, but, honestly, she'd probably just swim as an animal.

From there, she caught the stares of the other students. They were laughing... mocking? When they noticed her notice, the mocking worsened, and well that just wouldn't do. The selkie focused in on her instinct, testing the (metaphorical) waters to see if any of them would be a true threat. Unsurprisingly, and as often is the case with jealous assholes, they weren't even a blip on her radar.

Xera asked her something about food, and Flicker answered with a dangerous smile. "Just a moment," she said, "Something I need to do first."

With that, Flicker stood back and smoothly shifted into a massive fucking polar bear. She stood up to her whole 10 feet in height, turned to the dumbasses, and roared.

They scattered. As they should.

Flicker turned back to Xera and shifted back into her human form, her massive pelt shifting from white to brown as it receeded into the choker around her neck. She dusted herself off, just for show, and gave a peaceful smile to her roommate.

"What was that about food?" she asked. "I'm starved."

She'd blink and stepped back as the bear incident happened. "F-Flick....please don't do that," she'd laugh though, clearly amused, "you don't want to start a fight or get in trouble for threatening someone." She knew a teacher would likely talk to Flick about it, those students surely would tell someone.

"Uh, anyways, follow me," she'd motion for Flick to follow, leading her back into the halls. "So the cafeteria is a room that has food for all students to eat," she'd explain as they made their ways through the halls. "Everything from meat to veggies, to even some alien foods," she'd say.

Xera would stop as they arrived at their destination, pushing open the door and revealing the cafeteria. "So, want something to eat?" she'd ask as they entered, the walls lined with foods of all kinds for students.

Flicker chuckled, fixing a wide, toothy grin on Xera. "Oh, come on. Totally worth it. How else would I run 'em off, anyway? Asking nicely?" She laughed again, moving to walk alongside Xera towards the cafeteria. "Where I'm from, you only play nice with kin. Pick a fight with the wrong creature and you're crow food."

When they arrived to the cafeteria, Flicker took a good, long smell. She wanted to shift into an animal of some kind, get a better sense of all the scents, but she figured it'd be hard to speak with the serving people. It took only a moment to figure out how everything worked: different lines, different servers, different foods, etcetera.

"Meat, probably," she said, "And like... a vegetable? Maybe? I-- Wait, what's that?" Flicker began walking, then, towards where she smelled some sort of meat cooking. It smelled smokey, rich, and... Oh, what was what heavenly scent? As she approached, Flicker made out these thick little... disks of ground meat, sitting over what looked to be some technologically-advanced grill like she had in the woods. A small thing, on the countertop. Some were draped in orange slices that quickly melted onto the disk, and beside the serving station were containers of various vegetables — some familiar, some foreign — and a tray of various kinda of mini horizontally-sliced bread buns.

It was... glorious.

Flicker pointed to the assortment, and said simply, "This. What... What is this?"
