"Thanks for the ride!" Hue called out to the boat as it pulled away from the dock. Her arm waved in the air as if a dear friend was leaving on that boat when in actuality, she was the one who had just arrived.
Most everyone around her was climbing into cars or flying away on their wings. Hue had a different plan for transportation. She glanced at the map in her hand, making sure she had the turns correct. She slung her two duffle bags over her shoulder, shoving the map into the side pocket of one, and took off running.
Being over eight feet tall, Hue's strides were almost twice as long as a human's and her speed was the same. It was a few miles, but it was nothing she hadn't run before.
In under fifteen minutes, Hue reached her destination.
A little white cottage house settled between two other homes in a quaint neighborhood. It had taken Hue a while to find accommodations for someone of her size and preferences. The owners of this residence, while they weren't above average in height like Hue, were a fan of big doors and tall ceilings. There were a couple features she would have to fix up to better suit her height and hand size, but otherwise, it was perfect.
Well, almost perfect. Hue slowed to a walk as she approached the home, her breathing deep but not strained. The pictures of the house had shown it while the owners had still been living there. But it had been almost two months now since they had moved out and it looked as if no one had tended to the yard since then. The trees were fine but the grass was brown and flower beds that had once been full of color held plants that were barely hanging. Hue thought she might cry.
She dropped her bag on the front step, not even bothering to open the door, and set to work. Thankfully there was a hose attached the spicket outside. She started with the flower beds before moving to the grass. She knew this would take some time to heal but that honestly excited her a bit. There was something about bringing plants back to life that gave her a lot of joy.
