Name: Morgan Abel.
Age: 19.
Birthday: December 31st.
Gender: Male; he/him.
Species: Human.
Category: Student.
Class: College.
Grade: 2nd Year.
College Major: Magitech and Biology(minor).
Appearance Description:
Morgan stands at 5’10 with a androgynous, smaller build. He has a thinner build with no muscle, less broad shoulders and curvier hips. His face shape looks like it could go either way, but it generally leans more towards a more male appearance.
He has pale skin during the colder months, or when he spends more time inside due to doing his projects. He tans and pales very easily, meaning even a couple of weeks staying inside will have him be paler. The same is true when he’s outside a bit more often, he will tan easier. He appears to have no markings on his skin.
However, he has a brand on his lower back, a mark of a deal.
He has a darker brown hair which appears a rich brown in sunlight. His hair is rather messy and a little bit long, but not shoulder length. Not always long enough to justify tying it up, but also long enough that he has to every now and then.
Morgan simply has brown eyes. Nothing unique or special, just normal brown eyes.
When Morgan is working on his projects, it’s pretty easy to tell. He usually wears his goggles, or has them on his head, and will be a bit scruffier with grime on his skin. He usually wears a black tank top, black jeans and black trainers when he’s doing this work with dark brown gloves.
When he’s being more casual, he’ll wear glasses, a dress shirt of some description, a brown jacket and black jeans with black boots. He also usually wears dark brown gloves… and he still has his goggles on him.
Personality Description: Morgan is pretty over the place. One moment, he can be quite calm and will be having a pleasant enough conversation. The next, he’s running all over the place to get everything together.
Morgan has an inventor’s mind which is running 24/7. When he gets a strike of inspiration, he has to write it down or immediately get to work on it. He also drops projects and picks up new ones like a child going through phases.
He has an extreme fascination with the magical, and this has only intensified now that he’s actually living on the island. He’s incredibly nosy about these matters, but he’s not trying to be rude. Just curious.
Speaking of which, Morgan sucks at socialising. It’s not that he doesn’t like it, or is incapable of it. It’s just he lacks a big social filter. It almost seems that his time doing engineering has made him less capable of socialsing.
Despite all of this, his heart is in a good place. He is doing what he does in trying to improve the lives of people. All people. He has the belief that if he can give help to people on the island, he could eventually spread that tech to help people all over the world.
Active Abilities: The Index - The Index sounds like some kind of weird device. Well, it used to be. A device of Morgan’s own design, it was created with assistance to have magical properties. The device itself is the goggles that Morgan carries around. When Morgan puts on the goggles, anyone he looks at will show the species of the person he looks at. This works for hybrids, gods, demons, everything. In out of character terms, whatever is listed on a character’s ‘species’ area is what Morgan will see. He isn’t able to determine which parents it comes from, the names, ages or any other information except the species of the person he looks at. The glass of his goggles are also handy since he can see out of them like his regular glasses.
Sensory Block - Morgan is able to turn off the senses of himself, or others. He is able to disable any of the listed senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, balance, and pain. He is only able to maintain two blocks at any time. This could be two blocks on one person, one one two different people, one on another person and himself, or two on himself. In order to apply a block on someone, he has to be able to see them or touch them. The block will remain until Morgan wills it away, or Morgan is made unconscious. Morgan is able to freely apply and remove it on himself. An individual block will expire after 5 minutes, and requires 5 minutes to recharge
Passive Abilities: None.
Weaknesses: Demon's Contract - The demon's contract, or deal, was what Morgan agreed to in order to save his twin brother's life. The contract dictates that while Morgan is alive, it will still be active. It means that Morgan has acquired additional knowledge, plus his brother is still alive, but it comes at a cost. It means he lost most of his lifespan, actually meaning he'll only live to be around 21. For ever invention Morgan creates using the knowledge he acquired, and for every person he helps, he gains a minute back to his life. Frankly put, it's an impossible task to really increase his limit. Removal of the contract will result in severe memory loss in Morgan, and will give him permanent memory issues. It will also mean his brother would die. The contract will be considered fulfilled once Morgan dies, regardless on the method he dies.
Common Magical Items: None.
Resources: Lives in the dorms. Is unemployed, but is receiving a monthly allowance from his parents back home. It is enough to pay for everything that he needs to pay, such as food and clothes.
Warning: Discussion of cancer.
Biography: Morgan was technically born as the third child in his family. The reason it’s technical is because the second child was his twin brother. As a child, it quickly became apparent that Morgan was gifted, in a way. He was very intelligent from a young age, and was very curious of the world around him. When other children asked for toys during holidays, all Morgan wanted was more science or engineering kits.
Morgan was practically born to do engineering one day. He had an affinity for it, and had to be stopped from working on projects all by himself more often than not. But this desire to improve only increased.
When Morgan and his brother were 8, his brother became very ill. That was all Morgan’s parents said to him, really. Morgan knew, when he was older, this his brother had some form of bone cancer. In the end, it was decided that he had his leg amputated.
This experience made Morgan have a purpose with his skills. When before he wanted to do engineering simply because he enjoyed it, he now wanted to be a biomedical engineer. Someone who used their skills to help injured people, or sick people. Seeing his brother struggle after all of this made Morgan determined to help.
The next three years went uneventful, that was until the twins were 11. Unfortunately, the cancer that Morgan’s twin had returned. It had spread throughout his body, and there was next to no chance he would survive. This greatly distressed Morgan, who didn’t want his brother to die.
Frankly, Morgan always kind of believed the stories he was told as a child. About magic and all of that. But, he used this time to research as much about magic as he could. Obviously, it was insanely difficult, the Veil was to thank for that. But eventually, through several months of research, Morgan found something.
His brother was running out of time, so he used what he had. Quite conveniently, what he had… was enough. He pretty much accidentally summoned a demon in his bedroom.
Obviously, the demon wasn’t all too pleased that a child had summoned him. But, he was also intrigued that a child went to such lengths. That was when Morgan made his request.
He requested for his brother to be saved. The demon declined. Believe it or not, it was somewhat out of the goodness of the demon’s heart because he knew the cost to save one life would be heavy.
But Morgan was not going to be deterred, and he decided to add more. The demon would save his brother, teach him more about magic and how to apply it to engineering. The demon was somewhat surprised, really. Not only did the child ask again, he had added more conditions. He could see a desperation, but also a spark of ambition. The demon simply asked why Morgan wanted this information. “I want to help people. Perhaps, if I have knowledge of magic, or if I could apply my engineering to people like you, I could save more people.” The demon was somewhat surprised.
With some reluctance, but great intrigue, the demon gave an offer. “I will grant your wishes on a condition. You will lose most of your lifespan. You will not know when I come to claim your soul, but I will.” Despite his words, the child’s eyes remained determined as ever. “But. For every invention you make using the information I provide, every person one of your inventions help, I will add another minute back to your life.”
The child nodded, a passion in his eyes. He took the deal, and the demon branded Morgan as a mark of their deal. Morgan’s twin was suddenly cured of his cancer, an event that everyone said was a miracle. From then on, the demon taught Morgan about magic and how to apply it to engineering as best he could. He was the one who informed Morgan of Starlight Academy, and was the one who charitably used his own magic to help create the first version of The Index.
Morgan worked hard from then on. He continued improving his engineering skills, while learning about the magical world that was once hidden from him. He swore to the demon that he would not tell his family about what had happened. They didn’t even know about the brand.
When Morgan was 18, he finally finished his formal education. He knew what step he wanted to take. He told the demon he wanted to go to Starlight Academy, to the college. He had to in order to increase his knowledge and skills. The demon somewhat expected it would require a reasonable amount of pestering, but once the school was informed that Morgan was in possession of a magical item, he was accepted to the school. He arrived in late August to start school in September. He has had to work hard already, as he isn’t only taking magitech but also minoring biology. But, he’s always loved a challenge in the educational department. This is just the next step.
Additional Information: Morgan is far sighted, meaning his glasses are actually prescription glasses. He can also use his goggles in order to see.
