Ambrose would softly chuckle at the girl's question. Was he a real demon? Well, he could prove he was, but...that may be a little intense for her. So, he settled for a normal answer instead.

"Yes, they exist. And yes, I am one. My skin changes color, as do my eyes. I grow wings and all that, and I can freely manipulate and create fire. If you like, I could show you..." Ambrose would say, eager to get the chance to show off his powers now that the opportunity had presented itself to him.

A demon form, with wings, fire, the whole ensemble. Sounded like a sight to see. Chloe was more interested in biographical details, but this was making her curious.

“Sure. It has to be a lot more exciting than my demon form. I don’t even get a transformation sequence out of it.” She smiled. But she was definitely ready to break into a sprint at the first sign of any funny business. She couldn’t rule out that actual demons would do evil stuff for its own sake. They were literal demons, after all.

…Chloe hoped that she wasn’t buying into some awful stereotype about demons.

Ambrose would smile at the girl saying she indeed wanted him to show her his demon form. So, Ambrose would stand up, and motion for her to stand back a bit. Once she had, Ambrose would close his eyes, and start changing form. His skin would change first, becoming a swirled mixture of crimson and black. Black feathered wings would sprout from his back, stretching themselves out. Opening his eyes, he would reveal the glowing crimson eyes that had startled the girl just earlier. A wave of fire would pass over his body and dissipate just as fast, and Ambrose would smile at the girl.

"Well? I can control fire, i'm incredibly fast and strong, I can fly... this form is amazing, but it's not without it's downsides." Ambrose would say, wondering if the girl was going to leave soon. He was hoping to get an opportunity to really stretch out his wings. Or perhaps she'd want to come with him... That'd be strange. Strange, but fun, he thought.

Chloe stood back, and she was glad she did. That fire was a little bit too close for comfort, even from all the way back there. She laughed nervously, temporarily questioning whether it was really a good idea to spend this amount of time around a person she met in the dead of night, who claimed to be a demon and could probably overpower her. But she waved those thoughts away – he was a demon, so it was important for her to know what was up with his kind.

“…Holy shit.” Suffice it to say that she was impressed. And also maybe a little scared. “Um, sorry. I mean, unholy shit.” Get it? Because they were both… it sounded a lot wittier in her head at least.

“Er…” she moved the conversation away from her truly terrible attempt at humor, “So, can all demons do that?”

Ambrose would give a quiet chuckle at the girl's attempt at dry humor. It was nice to see people try to appeal the a demon, make him laugh and all that. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. The joke wasn't truly funny, but it was clever and the attempt at it was hilarious to him. She asked him if all demons were capable of transforming.

"Well...i'm not sure, really. Odds are that it varies. Some may be able to transform, some may just be stuck in their demon forms, with no humanity to them at all. I've never really met another demon before, so I wouldn't know." Ambrose would say, putting a hand over his mouth in thought. He wasn't truly sure, but he assumed he was right.

“Oh.” She sounded disappointed. Chloe had hoped she’d get to learn more about… well, not her kind, but the kind she’d often been mistaken for. Unless…

“Well, you might be meeting a demon right now!” Disappointment was replaced by a strange smile. “I mean, everything I thought I knew about reality is a lie, and my memories might not even be real. For all I know,” she shrugged, “I could be a real demon from literal hell. Only with fake memories or amnesia or something.”

Why the hell not? She wanted to laugh. Her life was getting comic-book-ridiculous enough that absolutely none of this should surprise her anymore.

“We haven’t actually introduced ourselves.” she announced. They really ought to fix that. “I’m Chloe. You?”

Ambrose smiled at the thought of meeting another demon. This was the first, and possibly the last. He didn't really know if there would be any other people like him on the island, so he was pleased to meet someone that might be like him. When asked for his name, Ambrose would smile softly.

"My name's Gabriel, but...I prefer the name Ambrose. Y'know, being a demon with an angel's name isn't really preferable. Sorry to dissapoint that I don't know more about my...our...kind. And it's nice to meet you, Chloe. I like your name. A lot more normal than mine." Ambrose would say, before changing back to his human form. It felt strange to be in his demon form with no activity going on, and he didn't like it.

“Thanks. Nice to meet you too, Ambrose.” Chloe couldn’t tell if that was legitimately inappropriate, to be a demon with an angel’s name, or if that was just a personal issue. Either way, she would respect it.

She tried not to be unsettled by his demonic form, but it was still unsettling. But it was entirely his appearance that was giving her that feeling, and she knew it. And it made her upset, to realize how much his appearance was making her uncomfortable. She had scared off too many people on the basis of her looks alone; she didn’t think she should even be allowed to feel this way.

Though it also made sense to be a little intimidated by him for what he was. He was a demon after all, right?

“…You know, something just occurred to me. What makes you say that you’re a demon, and not just a guy who can…” she gestured at him, struggling to come up with words. “Fwoosh.” That seemed like a reasonable enough summary of his power.
