"Awww, ye think I'm pretty, d'ye luv?" Sam said with a sly smirk, swaying with her as they made their way to his room. "A swear on me... well A canno' 'sactly swear on me mum. I dinnae remember 'er, y'see. Or me sister fer tha' matter." Sam's face fell a bit, his mood soured by the thought of his family. He remembered his mother rapping his knuckles with a spoon when he misbehaved or when she would gently pet his hair when he couldn't sleep because of all the ghosts around.

"Druids... feh. They go' no right t'gimme lip o'er me singin' me own song 'owe'er A wan'." He stopped and squinted at the door, patting it gently. Well, maybe a little harder and louder than he intended. "This's it lass. Thank ye fer yer kindness. Yer sacrifice, gettin' up in th' middle o' th' night t' 'elp a poor soul."

He looked over at Bel with hazy, heavy lidded eyes and felt himself smile a bit. "Can A do some'at fer ye in return? Yer a good lass, A can tell. Go' a good 'eart in ye."

Bel cast a somewhat odd glance at Sam, a moment of compassion flitted across her features. The comment about his mother, sister did not go completely unnoticed, but a lot of people on the island had similar stories. Their families abandoning them on the island, never speaking or having anything to do with them. Bel, herself, was actually in a similar situation but decided to say nothing. She wasn't about to have a pity party with a drunken stranger in the hallways of Starlight at almost three am in the morning...

"Well, sorry to hear that..." she said flatly as she let go of him, not exactly in an unkind tone, but not allowing him to think she was actually interested in hearing his drunken ramblings.

"Yer songs? Yeah right, and I am Gwyl Fair..." Bel scoffed as she looked at the attractive young man before her, drunk beyond belief, was not Samhain himself, the gods wouldn't choose someone like him, she thought critically, and maybe a bit unfairly.

"You're drunk.." Bel sighed when he asked if he could do anything for her, telling her she had a good heart - which at the moment was being sorely put to the test, and she doubted that she was such a nice person anyways. "Just.. go have some coffee, or a cold shower," she said as she looked him over, "That's what you can do for me..." Bel said exasperated, and just wanting to get back to bed.

Leaning on the door to his room heavily, Sam grinned back at Bel and shook his head. "Don't be so sure, lass. Appearances can be deceivin'." He already sounded a little more sober. He had a brief thought and reached his hand out slowly, intending to run a hand through her hair if she'd let him.

"The gods don't always do things we figure we understand. But ye know that, dontcha?"

Bel was immediately suspicious and just stared at him, not really noticing his hand, when he told her that appearances could be deceiving in a fairly sober tone, or less drunken one... his exaggerated country accent gone, replaced with a slightly more cultured speech.

"What do you mean, I should know? Know what?" she demanded a bit uneasily, not enjoying the fact that he had been probably faking, or exaggerating his drunkenness to get her to... to what? Carry him down the hall to his room? Get her alone? What?

Sam's hand ended up in Bel's hair, his thumb on her forehead. He muttered something in Welsh, an old prayer to the gods. A blessing of luck. Not a powerful one, but one that would be noticeable. When he was done he removed his hand, still offering that sloppy smile to her.

"Ye said druids earlier. Yer like me. Or, well, maybe. But there's somethin' there. Yer a good lass, Bel. With a good heart. Don't let it sour, yeah?"

Bel almost and quite instinctively went to pull back when he put his hand on her head, unsure of his intentions, but when she noticed it was to bless her, she stood still. She didn't know why, maybe it was her training and conditioning, but Bel let him finish before she did or said anything.

"I doubt I am like you," she said, her tone not as snippy as the words spoken. She didn't actually mean anything bad by them, they were just the truth. She was a goddess and she highly doubted he was anything divine, or really divine like a god, despite the blessing he had just bestowed on her.

Though truthfully, she had no real way of knowing whether he was or not, her powers were almost gone now. He could be the most worthy or unworthy person in the room, and she wouldn't be able to tell.

"And please don't say that, I am not a lass, nor am I as good-hearted as you think," she told him coolly, uncomfortable with being called or thought of as a child by him, and knowing also that she wasn't as kind-hearted as he thought she was. She had been downright snappy to people lately and his words only reminded her of that, and that the goddess would be ashamed of how she was acting lately.

"Yer no' to blame for any o' that. Ye at least recognize yer faults and ye can work past them, aye?"

Same hesitsted, his hand still on her head. He wavered for a second, moving it down to cup her cheek lovingly in his hand. "Don't sell yourself short, Bel. Yer amazing even if you don't think so highly of yerself."

There was a pause and he leaned in closer. But his movements were slow and uncertain, as if he didn't want to push her too hard. If she let him, he'd press a gentle kiss to her lips.

Bel shook her head at his kind words, feeling somewhat emotional now, and even ashamed at her mistrust and unkind words and thoughts. She just had a hard time believing him at the moment. She knew it was a mixture of being tired and the fact she was feeling powerless, anxious and even afraid at times, afraid that this year the loss would somehow be permanent. A fear that Bel knew was unfounded and irrational, but one she couldn't help but feel intensely. Especially since this Samhain, she was alone. She had nobody here that could appease her fears, nobody to calm her when she felt like crying or lashing out. There were no servants, acolytes, druids she could turn to and she just felt, lost...

"I am not worthy of such praise," she finally said as she stood there, knowing she should go, she had done her good deed for the day, night and yet, she didn't want to for some reason. Letting him stroke her cheek, Bel blushed at the intimate gestured and watched as he started to slowly lean forward to kiss her.

"Don't..." she said, whispered, putting a hand up to stop him, "You are drunk... you don't know me, and ..." here she stopped feeling flustered.

"And .. it's late, I should be getting back to my dorm," Bel added quickly, not sure she should stay much longer.

"...shit, I'm drunk? Fuck me I never would have known." Sam's face broke into a wide, goofy smile as he leaned back away from the kiss. "Fair enough. Sorry 'bout that."

He swayed slightly and knocked on the door to his dorm, hoping Jamie was awake so he could be let in. He'd spent the night passed out in the hallway more times than he'd liked to admit.

"Yer awful down though. If ye e'er need a pick-me-up, I'm always available..." he paused, chewing on his lip, then seemed to realize something. "I ain't propositioning ye fer sex. I mean I ain't sayin' I wouldn't sleep wi' ye. Cause yer gorgeous. But I ain't as much o' a pig as ye might think."

Bel grinned at his first comment, he was quite funny in his own way, she had to give him that. "It's fine, I mean, it's not great right now... But soon, I'll be better... just a few more weeks, days," she told him quickly, trying to gloss over the offer of sex, slightly uncomfortable with the subject.

The island was much more open about sex than she was used to, and while it didn't bother her that others were having sex, it bothered her that she couldn't decide whether she wanted to or not. She was a goddess of romantic love and fertility, yet she was not experienced in either area and often was hesitant to give too much counsel on those she bestowed them on.

"Thank you for the offer, not sure whether I actually will take you up on it," Bel told him as she wrapped her robe tighter around herself. She was now unsure about actually being alone with him, basically because - he was cute, had expressed a desire to sleep with her, she could see herself kind of falling for him, and she wasn't sure she wanted him to know she wasn't as worldly or experienced as he thought.

"Well, I am going to go back to my dorm then," Bel said as she turned to leave, took two steps, stopped and turned around to looked at him again as something occurred to her, "You know what? I don't actually know your name," she admitted sheepishly.
