Something smelled good. Not quite like food but it smelled like food. Kasai lifted her tiny nose to the air and tried to sniff out that tasty treat. Was it over by that big tree? Or maybe that tiny rock? Or is it way up in that tree? Or that tree? Or is it the tree waaaaayyyy over there?

The tiny fox ran to each one and sniffed. Not there. Not here. Definitely not over there. Was that it? No, that was a skunk. And that one was a bird. Where was it? Kasai jumped over a rock and tripped on her landing, rolling to a stopbeside a large mass. There it was. That's what smelled nice. But what was it.

Kasai scrambled up ontop of the creature's back. It was kinda squashy under her paws. A couple jumps on its back nearly threw her back om the ground. It was slide-y too. It didn't taste good though. The tiny fox tiptoed her way up to the creature's head and tipped her nose over to watch its eyes open.

Wess had been asleep deep inside his caverns. It was pitch dark where he had situated himself. It always was. But Wesely knew when nightfall came; the sun wasn't completely down yet, but it was close enough to nighttime that when something bounced on him, Wesely stirred.

He gave a soft growl, rolled, and opened his eyes. There was nothing human about them, not right then when the beast was so close to the surface. Had Kasai been humanoid, the Wendigo would not have hesitated to strike her down, but looking at her, he didn't see food.

Wesley sat up and stretched his arms over his head with a long, sharp yawn before focusing blurry eyes on the kit again. He reached out to her stroke her head without a thought.

"Hey there," Wess said softly, drowsiness lacing his tone.

Kasai squeaked as the mass of food-smelling creature moved it's head, dropping her to the floor. The tiny creature stared up at the monster before her... And sneezed. She shook her head to try dispersing the gathering dust. Big things needed a lot of dust for some reason. Except people things. They didn't seem to like dust or dirt or fluff at all.

A hand fell close to her head and Kasai jumped to meet it, rubbing her fluff all over. Wess could hear a strange sound coming from the tiny fox, something akin to a growl and a purr at the same time. Kasai looked very happy, so it was evident that the growling bit was just evidence of not being very feline.

Wess didn't remember much of his previous life, but he recalled the sound animals made, and he knew how strangely foxes could sound. He smiled, groggy and showing more teeth than was necessary. He was hungry, so so hungry and it wasn't yet completely nightfall.

Wesley fell back onto his back with a huff and stared at the ceiling. God, he felt like he could sleep forever. He reached out to pet the little kit's head and scratch her behind the ears before he attempted to scoop her up and lay her on his chest. He would return the half growl she had offered him.

Kasai squirmed around in the large creature's hands. A warning would have been appreciated before she was suddenly moving. She didn't like suddenly moving without deciding to. The tiny fox yipped and wriggled until she was placed on the creature's large chest. Oh. This wasn't bad.

Kasai curled up on Wess's chest, her dual-tipped tail covering her nose. So comfy up here. Maybe she should stay. And take a nap. The little fox yawned and listened to the big creature's responding growl. All it would take was a few moments of calm and she'd be asleep.

Wess would have been fine with returning to sleep, had it not been so late. It was hard to want to move when a small, cute creature was curled up on your chest, though, so he remained still.

The Wendigo reached up to scratch the fox lightly behind the ears and at the scruff of her neck. When he could find his voice, Wess said, "where did you come from? You don't live in the Forbidden Forest; I know you don't. I'd have seen you sooner."

Kasai looked up at the creature's face curiously. Why would it want to know that? The creature never went down into the place anyways. Either way, she now had a shiny new circle thing on her neck.

Kasai wriggled out from beneath Wess's big hand and scampered forward. She thrust out her chest and held her head high to show off the small metal dog tag bearing the logo and address of the Manta Carlos animal shelter. A second tag hid behind it with the number 037. Kasai was very proud of these tags. Her people had marked her as one of their clan.

Wesley sat up straighter as Kasai showed off her tags to him. He reached out and touched them with a claw, inspecting them. "Ah. You are from the city. That makes sense. I hope you aren't lost little one because I can't help you back home." He ran his hand over the fox's head and smiled at her, trying not to show teeth.

Kasai yipped and curled back up on his chest to resume purring. She didn't know why he would think she was lost. She could get back there fine, even if she couldn't smell her way out everyone who picked her up and looked at her collar brought her back anyways. The little fox nuzzled against him, seeking the perfect napping spot. She found it draped across his chest with her nose and front paws on his neck.

Wess was no heartless monster, so how could he disturb the cute little fox's sleep once she stretched out and cuddled into his neck. Well, he couldn't, not physically. "Awe, shucks. Little lady, I have to go hunting, I can't keep sleeping." Despite that, he reached out and stroked the fox's head, heart melting at how cute it all was. She shouldn't have had to cuddle a grotesque monster like him.
