Mirror of Life: Mereau has a pocket mirror, that's made out of a large seashell about the size of her hand. This mirror holds a part of Mereau's lifespan, and if the mirror is broken into more than four pieces Mereau's lifespan will shorten by almost 150 years. If the mirror is broken into four or less pieces it will automatically mend itself. But whenever the mirror is harmed Mereau feels it as sharp pain in her chest.
This mirror also has healing abilities. Whatever injury, as long as it's not lethal, will heal if it's reflected in the mirror. This only works with external injuries and won't heal illnesses or internal injuries. The healing also steals Mereau's own stamina, since the mirror uses her own life energy to heal the injuries.
It takes about 10 seconds for small injuries like papercuts or scrapes to heal, and this won't affect Mereau that much. At most she will feel a bit dizzy when she makes sudden movements afterwards. But the bigger the injury bigger the effect. Grave injuries, like large gashes, can take even 3 to 4 minutes to heal, and afterwards Mereau will be so fatigued she won't be able to stand up.

Mami Wata Realm: Mereau is able to travel into an underwater realm, that exists in a chasm in between layers of reality. The realm of Mami Wata and other water spirits.
Mereau can access this realm in any place, as long as she is more than 3 meters underwater. This realm is dangerous for normal humans, because even though they can breathe there their minds will become lost, and if they spend more than few days in this realm they will forever be in a vegetative state. This also affects Mereau, although she is resistant to the realm's effects. She can spend a week or so in this realm before her mind starts getting lost, and after a month Mereau will be in a vegetative state forever.
Mereau can bring one more person with her into this realm and out of it, and this happens by her simply having physical contact with the person as she goes into the Mami Wata realm.
Longevity: Mereau's estimated lifespan is around 200 years.

Physique:
-Slow Aging: After she turned 25 Mereau started aging twice as slow as a normal human.
-Aquatic Proficiency: Mereau is almost literally like fish in water. Whenever she touches water her skin sprouts scales on her arms and legs and on all the light areas on her dark brown skin, and her fingers and toes grow longer and webbing appears between them. Mereau can hold her breath for almost an hour, her movements in water and quick and fluid and her maximum speed in water is almost 70mph.
The scales and other features that appear on Mereau when she touches water disappear as soon as she becomes completely dry again.
-Infertile: Mereau is unable to have a child unless certain conditions are fulfilled. Mereau has to be in touch with water and hold romantic attraction towards her partner in order to become pregnant.
-Snake Tongue: Mereau can understand snakes and they can understand her, snakes tend to like her and don't bite her and the tip of Mereau's tongue is split in the middle like that of a snake.
-Low Toxicity: Mereau's blood, saliva and other bodily fluids are slightly toxic, and if Mereau were to say lick someone's arm in few minutes some mild rash would appear on the skin.
-Aquatic Whisperer: Mereau can't clearly understand or speak to aquatic animals, but she can more or less feel what they are feeling if she makes eye contact with them.

Water Sense: Mereau instinctively knows, when something is up with any large body of water she is less than 10 miles away from. She can, for example, sense storms before they come, or know what area the fish are going to gather in, predict the way the wind is going to blow or how the currents are going to flow and other such things. Mereau doesn't have any control over these premonitions, they are like a gut feeling and aren't always specific. Mereau can't tell when exactly something is going to happen, at most Mereau can sense things up to 6 hours before they happen.
Dry & Cold: Dry and cold weather are Mereau's weaknesses. She has to keep her skin hydrated by dipping her entire body in water or using hydrating lotion on her entire body at least once every 24 hours, or else she gets a rash and her skin starts to peel. When the air doesn't have much or any humidity Mereau's skin gets dry and peels away in less than two hours if she doesn't use lotion or swim.
Low temperature also affects Mereau strongly, and she gets cold very easily. When the temperature goes below 5 degrees celsius Mereau is going to need a thick jacket to keep herself from shivering uncontrollably, and if the temperature drops below 0 celsius Mereau can't even go outside without a heat charm. Most comfortable Mereau is in temperature between 20 and 35 degrees celsius.

Shiny Things: Mereau is unusually drawn to shiny objects, and she likes to collect whatever shiny things she finds on the street. Whenever Mereau sees something shiny she gets a strong urge to take it. This makes her a bit of a kleptomaniac, although she has learned to fight against these urges.

Mereau's father was not an ordinary man by a long shot. He was part of a gang, that did piracy on the West African coast. Although he and his gang did differ from the common brand of pirates, they raided small cargo ships and luxury yachts mostly for valuables and money, they didn't steal oil or kidnap people for ransom. They had been driven to piracy by poverty and desperation and tried not to kill anyone if not absolutely necessary. The goods they stole the gang sold in the black market.
The gang had a lair in a cave on Ivory Coast, and near that cave was where Mereau's father first met her mother, a young Mami Wata on the verge of death. She had been dragged out of the river by some locals, raped and abused and left to dry out on the riverbank in her human guise. Mereau's father and few of his gang members found her, and took pity on the poor woman. They brought her to their cave and called in the local doctor, who patched her up. But the doctor said it would take a month or two before she would recover.

The Mami Wata spent her next few months in that cave, resting and when she was able to walk she took care of the place for the gang while they were out on their raids. The gang treated the woman well, even after they found out the shocking truth about her true nature. Mereau's father grew especially close with the young water spirit, and after a month the two were in love. But they both knew they couldn't stay together. Day by day the Mami Wata grew weaker in spirit, even though her body healed. She couldn't be away from her true realm for much longer, for she couldn't live outside it. This was very sad for the two, but when it was time for them to say goodbye they both knew it was the right thing to do.

Almost 10 months after the Mami Wata returned to her realm a strange thing happened. A young baby, wrapped in seaweed, appeared on the same riverbank where Mereau's father and his gang had found the water spirit. And that baby was Mereau. The pirates took the baby in and with her came a message in a seashell pocket mirror. Mereau was her father's daughter and half human, and thus her mind couldn't bear living in the realm of the Mami Wata. So she had to live on land among the humans. Mereau's father was happy to have a daughter and a reminder of his loved one, and he named her after the sea from which she came from.

Since this day Mereau lived with her father's gang, after they failed finding her a foster home in the nearby villages. And it was a good thing, because even though Mereau had dark hair for the first 3 or so years of her life it gradually turned light blue, and her dark skin developed very noticeable vitiligo. Her eyes were as clear as the ocean and her abilities would've earned her freak's treatment, or worse. And her father didn't want his daughter to grow up like that. So Mereau grew up among pirates, the caves and seashore were her playground and the creatures of the sea were her playmates. Mereau learned everything about the sea and its moods, handling both motor boats and sailing ships, judging the value of stolen goods, reading sea maps and all kinds of other good skills from the pirates.

When Mereau hit puberty her premonition power began surfacing. She was able to predict storms, shark attacks and many other disasters that happened at sea. And her father, who at this point had learned to trust her daughter's judgement when it came to the matters of the sea, believed Mereau. Thanks to this the pirates were able to avoid bad weather and their raiding went even more smoothly.
But Mereau's ability wasn't perfect, and she learned that in a very painful way, when one day her father and his gang went out for a raid and never came back. Mereau hadn't predicted a big storm, that rolled in unexpectedly and quickly and lasted for two whole days. The storm capsized the pirates' boats, and they all drowned in the waves or died by sharks or sharp rocks by the shore. Mereau waited for them to come home for several weeks, but they never came.

Mereau eventually realized she was now on her own, and she wept. None of the villagers knew of her existence, and Mereau knew it was better they didn't know. The village was small and so were the people's minds and they wouldn't treat Mereau kindly. So she took whatever money or valuables were left in the cave, packed plenty of rations, hopped on the only boat that was left after the storm and sailed away. At this time Mereau was a mere 18-year-old.
Mereau sailed along the coast, stopping in small harbour towns to sell jewelry she made from seashells, hiding her very eye catching hair and skin as well as she could. Mereau survived as well as she could, and for many years she did just that, avoiding the law and any trouble with locals. But after almost 6 years Mereau's loyal boat, after it had served her for so long, finally kicked the bucket when the motor suddenly stopped working. So now Mereau was stuck, with no boat or place to go. But she noticed, that she was actually close to her childhood home. So Mereau decided to go pay respects to her father's and the rest of the gang's spirits and decide what to do after that.

When Mereau arrived at the cave she was very surprised to find it in perfect condition, no dust or grime anywhere. And when she began investigating she found a woman in one of the side caves, praying by an altar with the pirate gang's possessions and even some photographs. Mereau and the woman turned to look at each other, and almost instinctively Mereau knew this woman wasn't human. It was confirmed, when the woman suddenly embraced Mereau, and when her tears hit her own skin it sprouted scales and she turned into a water serpent waist down.
The woman told Mereau that she was the Mami Wata the pirates had saved, and Mereau's mother. She had taken care of the cave after finding out about the gang's deaths, and had made this altar in their memory. Mereau was confused and many other things, but she was also grateful. She and her mother spent the next week or so together in the cave, talking about everything that came to their minds.

Mereau's mother told her daughter, that there was a place where she wouldn't have to be afraid. It was an island named Manta Carlos, across the sea. Mereau's mother and her sisters could take Mereau there, and there Mereau could live in peace and be who she was. Mereau, although hesitant to leave her childhood home, was tempted and eventually agreed to her mother's suggestion. And so it happened that Mereau's mother, with the help from the other Mami Wata, began taking Mereau across the ocean. It took almost a week, and the trip exhausted Mereau, but eventually they arrived on the shores of Manta Carlos in the middle of the night. At this point Mereau was too fatigued to move, and she was found on the beach near the pier the next morning. This happened at the beginning of the summer 2017.

Mereau, once she was let out of the hospital after few days, took a training course to be a lifeguard and right after that she began studying for qualifications to teach other how to sail, surf, scuba dive, water ski and do various other maritime activities. Mereau was a natural in most sports that had to do with water, so it didn't take her too long.
Mereau has lived on the island for few years now, and she occasionally visits her mother and her mother visits her.

-Lives in a small apartment by the beach
-Earns the most out of her summer jobs as a lifeguard and maritime activity instructor, and during the more cold months works on inside swimming pools and does other part-time jobs
