Being the magically gifted ray of sunshine that she is, Lottie thought it wise (and hella fun) to get enrolled into one the practical magic classes to learn some spells! Spells that she can use to help her friends... as well as totally show off for Madeline. When it came to what sort of magic she wanted to specialize in... well she didn't have real good answer for the guidance councilor so they recommended this one class with the potential to learn a bit of everything. In a funny twist of coincidences she happened to recall bumping into this teacher before so it works out that she already sorts of know them!

"Heeello Skella... selka... selkkk... uhh... Selky!" greeted Lottie whom obviously struggled with the teachers name. Maybe she didn't really know them as much as thought. At least she remembered the nickname! And there was no one else in the classroom aside from herself and the teacher.

"Here to introduce your newest student: Me!" cheered the mage, brandishing a wide smile as they point to themselves with their wand.

((Okey a few days late but its finally up!))

This tutoring was a bit special compared to the other requests. Unlike other students who contacted him personally for these lessons, the school was the one who asked him to teach this student. While it was basically the same thing as a private lesson, it certainly felt different. As Selkiris made it to the classroom he quickly recoiled at the nickname his student called him by.

Selkiris quickly recomposed himself and made it to the teacher’s desk. “Yes hello Ms. Lottie. I’ve been told you wish to learn more magic?”

"Yep! That is the reason why I am here now isn't it?" piped up Lottie as she strides over to the teacher's desk. As Lottie glanced about, she saw that she was the only one in the room aside from the teacher. She was told that it would be a small class but now she wondered if she was the only student.

"Sooo... is it just you and me here? Should I just take a seat wherever then?" asked Lottie, just to confirm that it was indeed just them and there wasn't some craziness like all of the other students being invisible or something. Now that would be a pretty cool and impressive display of magic.

Selkiris sat down in the desk and spilled out the contents of a bag he had brought with him underneath his robes. A massive plethora of magical tomes littered the table and Selkiris quickly got to organizing them to be a little more presentable.

“Yes it’s just you and me, at least that is what I was told. Tell me Ms Lottie, what do you wish to accomplish by taking my tutoring lessons?” Selkiris didn’t look up from sorting the books even once, more intent at the task at hand than the conversation it seemed.

"Well first, I want to test out a hypothesis that any sort of magic I learn here will transfer to the world I come from. Second, I want to broaden my magical abilities with some more practical and utilitarian sort of spells so that I can help my friends out on quests. Plus I think something like telekinesis would be really convenient to learn. Sure its nice to be able to pick stuff afar but I can think of like, a dozen other uses for such a spell." explained Lottie, watching as he stacked his books.

While Selkiris seemed more interested in his books than in herself, Lottie didn't really take any offence as she knew that he was at least listening to her. But it did make her wonder if there was purpose to these books being here.

"So are those going to be my textbooks for my lessons?" inquired Lottie, curiously inspecting the book covers to try to discern what subject each tome was about.

Selkiris nodded his head and simply said “I understand.” as Lottie explained her reasoning to him. Once the books were properly sorted he spoke again, this time actually looking at Lottie. “Well that is a good enough reason to learn magic. Since you mentioned it I suppose we will start with Telekinesis. I would like to state before hand though that I have been ‘cut off’ from most of my magic so I cannot give any real examples. Now for Telekinesis I think this book is a perfect place to start.” Selkiris picked up a tome from the selection and outstretched his hand to Lottie. To bridge the gap a small portal appeared between them and a tendril arose out of it, grabbing the book and handing it to Lottie before disappearing. The cover of the tome read ‘Mental Magic: Powers of the Mind.’.

“You asked if these tomes were your textbooks...that is a word for it. As you will soon see most were written by a man named Rey Bether, a dear friend of mine. He was a jack of all trades and wrote to inform others on the magic he practiced. We will begin with the basics and will then move into the more...experimental ideas.”

"Oh! Thanks." spoke up Lottie, taking the book that appeared just before her. On instinct she opens the cover and scans over the tome's table of contents and then flipping a few pages past. In her initial inspection she didn't see anything too out of the ordinary for a spell book.

"So if your cut off from most of your magic... what are the sort of things you can actually do? Aside from portals and wriggly tentacles." ask Lottie, looking up from the book as she wondered how well this class will go if the teacher can preform some of the magics she was hoping to learn himself. Whatever her teacher's answer was, she wound nod and then ask. "Alright so... where do we start? Just want me to read the introduction first couple of chapters then?"

Selkiris pulled out his own personal leather bound book which he kept safely tucking under his robes. He opened the book and flipped through a few of the pages until finding a page that wasn’t completely filled with notes.

“Knowledge is your best friend Ms. Lottie. Only a student needs to actually use magic to learn it, the teacher does not. However I did at least dabble in the basics of most magic so I can at least give you some basic tips.” He was tried to avoid giving her any real specifics of his current abilities. Selkiris pulled out a pen and began to write away on his book. “Get through the first four chapters and then we can discuss it Ms. Lottie. The introduction is usually just long and boastful, full of Rey’s gloating of his abilities.” Selkiris chuckled a little at that, it was always funny how prideful Rey could get. “So I would recommend just skipping that part.”

Lottie figured her teacher had a point. It was the student after all that needed to put in the work to practice their craft, the teacher's responsibility to guide her and make sure she didn't blow herself up somehow in the process.

"Hee... alright I will be sure skip the intro and get into the real meat of this text then." commented Lottie as she took a seat nearby and flipped the spellbook to the first chapter. Lottie was engrossed in the writings for the subject was clear and the writings concise and to the point. It was in stark contrast to her usual texts that were overly wordy and archaic. While she felt like she had a better understanding, it still left her with questions.

"Okey so... I got to the end of the fourth chapter and I have a couple of questions of some concepts the author mentioned in chapter 2 and 3. Do you think we can go over those sections?"

Wordlessly, Selkiris closed his own book and lifted his head towards Lottie. The hood still completely obscured his face however it was fairly obvious he was focused intently on her. “Chapters 2 and 3? Very well, what questions did you have about those sections?” Whenever Selkiris was bored he often turned to Rey’s old writings to fill the void of time. Selkiris likely could recite some of those books word for word if he was challenged to do so.

For his time, Bether’s ideas could have been seen as going against some basic magic principles set during the era and was therefore a rather controversial topic among magic users. Selkiris always found Bether’s theories and techniques fascinating which is likely why Selkiris even befriended him in the first place. Whenever Selkiris read his books he felt as if Bether was still with him today. Deep down, Selkiris believed teaching Bether’s methods to other magic user was the best way to honor his memory, he hoped Bether was smiling at him, wherever they were.
