Irene headed out to the truck to start the pre-shift check of the vehicle and supplies, letting Asku the thunderbird perch on the roof of the ambulance to 'supervise'. His movements quick but methodical, practically relying on muscle memory to do the same checks he'd been doing more or less for years. His actual work partner still inside grabbing the rest of their supplies they had already known to stock up on.

"Well Asku, keep an eye out for our ride-along guest for the shift. I'm sure she'll be along as soon as the paperwork is done," he called out, knowing that the bird wouldn't actually get much of that. It was fine, a mental urge to keep an eye out for -a friendly- visitor coming out to the truck.

Sacre finished with the paperwork and headed for the vehicle bay. The scarred Lamia felt uncertain, she knew this was the closest she would likely come to having a job like she did in the Army. A job she had been very good at. However, there were a lot of bad memories that came with the job. The friends who had died in her arms. She didn't know if she could handle it.

The tall lanky snake woman felt nearly naked wearing normal clothes that only concealed three knives. She also had elected to leave her personal medkit at home, not wanting to try and show off while she was just trying to get her bearings. They did things so strangely in this universe. That said a black shirt and skirt probably weren't the best choice for the serious-faced Lamia. They made her look intimidating, like a tall thin mafia thug than a civilian who just wanted a ride-along.

Danger. Big. Snake... why was Asku... oh. Irene had to chuckle to himself before having the now loudly trilling bird on the roof be silent again. Deciding he might as well keep the checklist in hand as he peeked out of the open side door to the back of the vehicle.

"Ah, you must be our guest for the day. Don't mind Asku, he's a friend," he called cheerfully and hopped out of the vehicle to offer her a hand. "I'm Irene, and i'll be the senior Paramedic on the shift tonight." The way he cocked his head when he looked around was very, very birdlike despite the human appearance. He was a fairly skinny man with messy golden-blonde hair, a cheery smile and shining brown eyes. Of course he was in his work uniform.

Sacre looked at the loud bird on the roof, she felt she could take it if she had to. Sacre looked down to see Irene. She didn't take his hand, "I'm Sacre, I don't like being touched if I don't have to be." She explained with a hint of disappointment in her voice as if she had been expecting more from him. However, it was more that she was expecting someone more feminine from the name.

"You lead, I follow. We'll be doing things your way because I'm a guest here. I understand my place. I'll only help if you ask me. However, I was a medic in my home universe, so I am capable of helping if you need it. I'm not some dumb kitten fresh out of the tube." She said confidently, the NCO mission instincts still with her.

Irene withdrew his hand without further question and nodded, also giving Asku a mental request for him to take to the air and give them some space. "Not a problem, if there's nothing else i've learned living here it's to be flexible and accommodate that kind of request. You won't have to tell me twice."

"I don't plan to treat you with any disrespect, but i'm afraid having you tend to a victim would bring all sorts of liability issues for us. I'll let you know if a steady hand could be appreciated. That said, you know I was actually a medic during... well, multiple wars. I recognize and appreciate a veteran's knowledge."

Sacre nodded, her head adjusting as she took in the fellow veteran. "So, what's first? Inspecting the rig? finding a nice couch till someone's heart decides to fail on them? Training? Picking up the few takeout menus we don't have?"

Irene chuckled and held up the dreaded clipboard of paperworkitude. "Always checking the rig and supplies first. Don't want to show up to a call with an empty box of gloves or missing half the cache of gauze. You might as well climb aboard and come see how we arrange things in here. Just mind the stretcher locks- we don't need any runaways this early in the shift"

All smiles and casual professionalism, Irene stepped out of the way and gestured to the back of the truck so Sacre could get a look inside. "Some of it might be lower tech than you might be used to but we've usually got what we need from scene to triage to admittance."

Sacre nodded, "Ok, let's go through our supplies. Mind if I do the looking and you do the checking off so I know where everything is?"

Irene nodded and held up the clipboard. "Sure, be my guest. I've already done most of it but how about you help me check the splints and braces over there in that corner," he gestured at a cabinet along the side wall of the van.

It wasn't a super long list but Irene was careful to make sure each individual piece of equipment was there and in proper condition. Even rejecting one when it seemed like the velcro on it was starting to lose its effectiveness. Then he began to point out the other major items there in the cupboards.

"Now that locked one there is very important. Occasionally some magical healing might be approved for someone who has arranged for it to be available. That will always remain locked unless the senior medic on scene gets the approval for use, but inside are several different types of magical based healing agents."

Sacre was thorough in her examination of the things that she took out and the cupboards she was able to open and look inside. The lanky lamia seemed to know how everything worked that wasn't magical. She couldn't even identify any of the magical healing agents. "So how often do you use magic?" She asked as they finished the list.
