Name: Marina Willowbrook
Age: Around 1000 years old, give or take a decade.
Birthday: February 4th
Gender: Female
Species: Mermaid Fae
Career: Swimming instructor, on the lookout for a different job
Appearance Description: Marina is around 8 inches from head to tailtip, and has brown hair down to her waist, fair skin, and green eyes. Her upper half is humanoid with wings, and her lower half is covered in blue scales with a blue fishtail at the end. Her wings are also blue, and completely waterproof. She's also cautious about her weight and how much she eats since being too heavy affects her ability to get around on land.
Personality Description:
Marina is a fairly laid-back person and tries not to stress out too much about life. Sometimes this means she doesn't pay enough attention to things that could actually be genuinely problematic for her. She's also quite friendly, and does her best to get along with people though she does have her sassy moments too. She is also liable to occasionally misunderstand cultural things due to lack of exposure to other cultures, but she's doing her best to learn and keep learning.
Powers: Water manipulation: Marina can manipulate streams of water drawn from a source, but she can't create water out of nowhere.
Sound Amplification: A more recent discovery after her move to Manta Carlos due to necessity while trying to be heard around groups of beings bigger than herself, Marina's learned to magically amplify her voice to make herself heard in crowds.
Species Abilities:
Wings: Marina's wings are blue, and are designed so water just slides off of them much like how water slides off the feathers of ducks. This enables her to be able to fly as soon as she gets herself out of the water rather than being stuck on the ground waiting for them to dry out first like her siblings did if they fell into the water.
Tail: Instead of having legs like other species of Fae Marina's lower body is covered in blue scales with a fish tail on the end, and has been this way from birth. This enables her to swim and move well in the water to avoid becoming prey for other aquatic creatures, but is completely useless on land forcing her to rely heavily on her wings to get around.
Lifespan: Marina has a seemingly immortal lifespan much like the forest Fae she grew up with, but is not immune to injury or death, and does her best to avoid both if possible.
Flight: Like other Fae, Marina can use her wings to fly and can still use them even when they're wet because they're waterproof. Her primary way of getting around on land by herself since she doesn't have legs. Her flight distance is limited by how far she can go before she tires herself out.
Swimming: Her lower body enables her to swim incredibly fast, but due to her small size water currents can affect her ability to stay on course.
Communication with aquatic animals: Marina discovered this as a child when a particularly large fish was eyeing her up as food and she ordered it not to eat her. It works only when she's in the same water area as the animal she's communicating with, and doesn't work as well when trying to communicate with large populations.
Biography: Marina was born into a family of forest Fae in Europe, and her elemental differences to them were clear to see immediately: her fish-like lower body and her waterproof wings which were completely different to her parents and siblings.
As she grew up she started to notice how much other forest Fae outside her family disliked her for being different to them, and eventually she left to fend for herself, mainly living in rivers alongside other water elementals and spirits who didn't care what she looked like.
As human populations and developments kept popping up by the rivers over time she kept having to move to avoid being discovered or caught by humans.
Eventually she started hearing rumours about an island where anyone magical was welcome regardless of form, but it took her several centuries more to start investigating it properly until she finally arrived to settle on Manta Carlos a decade ago and start to make a new life for herself.
