The little shit-eater in Konpeitō enjoyed watching newcomers be awed by the island. He always had to remind himself to not throw too much at TWIS visitors at once. It was tempting to list out every single amazing thing and watch them try to wrap their head around it.

"Surreal is just the right word. Our upbringings are completely different, but I also found myself confused by everything here when I first arrived. If it helps, there are translation charms. The cheapest ones make you hear everything in your native language, and everyone hears what you say in English. I've considered getting myself an omnilingualism charm. I decided against it since," he slowed, trying to find the proper words to not sound like a braggart, "learning languages isn't difficult for me."

Mission vastly unsuccessful, but considering Vito's own experience, he mentally just chalked it up as probably their kind of magic is learning magic and moved on with his life mentally.

"It's taking some adjusting. It's going to keep being an adjustment. I have some vague ideas for how things work, but I still need to figure out what I'm going to do with myself. My old career has... largely been cut off, and I'm not sure that schooling here would be..." He frowned. "Suitable."

A sympathetic smile made its way onto Konpeitō's face without him knowing. "A common project for TWIS is helping citizens find suitable work. We've done mock interviews, resume practice, and pairing people with careers that fit their skill sets and interests. We try to be flexible and adjust to what people already know. That might be something of interest to you."

As Konpeitō slid his laptop towards him and opened it up, he tried to make a guess as to what Vito did before coming to Manta Carlos. He was friendly, polite, and had a great focus on knowledge due to how his world worked. And yet he had messy hair, piercings, scars, and tattoos. Other than his race, he looked like the kind of person his dad would have worked with.

It did sort of interest him, but if he was being completely honest it was in part only because he hadn't expected to work. In his own world, he'd been someone. He didn't have to work, because him furthering his understanding of magic was contributing to society enough.

"I'm not sure what work I'd be suitable for," he admitted. "Academia, perhaps? That was where I spent most of my time, after all, and what I'm most familiar with. But even academia here seems quite different from what I'm used to, so it's hard to tell if I'd actually be useful in any way."

Could he actually teach someone? Was what he'd learned, and the style of education, even compatible with how things were done here?

"The library might be a good option. I don't think you would need to be familiar with the island's culture while working there. You could help organize books or direct people to the books they're looking for. During your free time, you could read and see what information this world has. It would be a great place to study at anyway."

Don't be biased, he told himself as he thought of Vito flipping through a book in a library. Cool, calm, collected. Wearing glasses like he belonged there with those tattoos and piercings.

That actually didn't sound so bad.

The library? He hadn't thought of that, but it seemed... sensible. It would be a good way for him to get a better feel for the island, and he didn't expect it would be terribly difficult. He was very familiar with... well, his own world's library organization, but that didn't mean it was true.

"That isn't a bad idea," Vito said, considering the point obviously. "Are all libraries tied to academic institutions here as well, or are there... private ones?" He wasn't sure which he'd prefer, really.

Konpeitō tried not to watch as Vito thought the idea over, but seeing how receptive he was to it made his colors saturate. His eyes focused on the screen of his laptop as he pulled up the libraries on the island.

"There are other smaller libraries and book stores, but Starlight has the largest and most easily accessible one. Going for a smaller store or library might work better depending on your goals. They're often specialized, like stores for literature made in a specific country, second-hand books, books about magic, et cetera et cetera. I could go on."

Vito noticed the shifting of colors, but for him it was a far more mundane thing then it might have been for others. His tattoos shifted colors any time he used his magic, and similar markings weren't unheard of, although rarely on the scale of Kon's own.

"More generalized would likely be better," he speculated. "I suppose my primary specialty would be magic, only here that would be considered a general subject, I imagine. I'll have to speak to the school and see if there's a position. It's not as if I'm a stranger to libraries, but I'm not sure of their hiring criteria."

Konpeitō thought back to the school. "I wouldn't say magic is a general subject here. It's like math. There are basic magic classes, mostly for younger people or those not familiar with magic, and then there are more specialized classes. Off the top of my head, there's defensive magic, offensive magic, therianthropy, and logomancy."

He paused, then smiled nervously at Vito. "I got off topic! Businesses here are generally relaxed with hiring processes by necessity. Someone new is always arriving, and with the high mixture of cultures, the pardon system, and various species, it's hard to be strict and discriminate. Unless a job needs a specific set of skills, you shouldn't face much trouble. I doubt the library will ask anything complicated of you."

VITO DI SAVOIA

Only four magical subjects? It was so... so basic. So simple. The study of magic in itself was an entire subject in his world, completely separate from actually learning.

"It sounds like I should have no issues, then." He was qualified, even if he'd have a great deal of difficulty proving it. Maybe there was an aptitude test? Or maybe he was just going to be expected to learn on the job. It didn't really matter. What did matter was that Vito had a clear plan for what he was doing.

"I should thank you for giving me some insight into how things work here. You—and your organization—have been very helpful. But now that the meeting's wrapped up, I should be heading back to my apartment."
