Katie

"The reason I get it is because I was just like you." Katie answered back. She was starting to get the feeling that Rem wasn't listening to her. But she wasn't going to yell at him again. The whole reason she was talking to him right now was to apologize for her yelling at him.

Katie sighed. "When.. When I frist came here, everything I knew about demons was that they were evil, and that they wanted to take my soul..." Katie looked to the ground, as this was something she was still ashamed of. "I really thought they were evil.."

Katie turned her gaze back to Rem, though now she seemed hopeful. "But, with the help of my friends, like Vespa and Yuki, I saw that demons aren't bad people, and they're not evil. But if you automatically assume the worst of every demon, you'll never be able to change. Just give them a chance. Please."

Rem was a tad confused at how Katie was just like him. They seemed pretty different to him. But either way, he just listened.

He didn’t interrupt while she was talking but he definitely had a thing or two to say once she was finished. “So you’re basically saying that when you got here, you knew very well that demons are evil, then people here, at least one of which was a demon and a rude one at that, tried to convince you that demons weren’t evil and you just believed them?”

He shook his head. “We are not so similar I’m afraid. I would never so easily fall into peer pressure.”

"Umm, sort of?" Katie answered when Rem asked if she just believed what she was told about demons on the island. But... it's more than that! Once I stopped being so afraid of them, and started talking with them, I began to see that they weren't as bad as they seemed. In fact, a lot of them are really nice! You just gotta give them a chance!

When Rem said he wouldn't be so easily swayed by peer pressure Katie just shook her head. "I just want you to give demons a chance.. I know they can seem mean, or scary.. But I promise that they aren't. You just need give them a chance. Please." Katie said, new found hopefulness clear in her voice. Maybe Rem would actually listen to her and situations like what happened with Vespa could all be avoided in the future.

“That’s all it takes. You don’t understand. All they need to do is convince you to give them a chance. Then, whenever it’s convenient, they’ll use you, take from you or when they’re done with you they will dispose of you.”

Rem’s face went cold. “I am never going to give in. No matter what you or anyone else says, I will stand my ground. I was taught better than to easily give in.”

He turned his head away, looking towards the water fountain. “If you’re adamant about demons being safe and there’s nothing I can do to persuade you then I guess we are done here.”

Katie

Katie frowned as Rem turned away. The angel seemed determined to maintain the whole "demons are evil" mindset, even when it was clear that wasn't true.

"I.. I guess." Katie said, before taking a deep breath. "Do... Do you think we could be friends?" she asked, hesitatingly. Even if Rem had some terrible views on demons, it didn't mean he deserved to not have friends. And if it hadn't been for Katie's friends she would probably still be very much like Rem.

Rem just sighed when Katie changed subject entirely and asked if they could be friends. It wasn’t that Katie was annoying so much as the situation was annoying. Katie was likely a good person but she was just too naive.

“Yeah, I guess...” He turned his head so he was looking at her again. “If you’re so insistent about hanging around demons, then at least let me give you my phone number. Then if anything bad ever happens you can at least let me know and hopefully I can help before it’s too late...”

Katie

Katie gave a small smile when Rem agreed to be her friend. She'd almost expected him to say no. Small victories. Hopefully, he would eventually come around to demons, and realize that they weren't as bad as they seemed.

"Oh! Okay.. umm.. my phone number is [xxx-xxx-xxxx]" Katie said, giving Rem her phone number, once Rem gave his number, she would send him a text with her name.

With the phone number saved into the short list on his phone, Rem tucked the phone away again. This was probably the closest they could get to an agreement on both sides. Unfortunately it seemed as if he’d need to wait for the demons to strike first if he wanted his point proven. The issue was that he wasn’t sure he could afford to let them strike first but at the same time he didn’t really have a choice. It was the same awful situation that always existed here.

“Alright, I’m heading back to my dorm. Farewell Katie. Be safe.” He gave a quiet bow before heading on his way.
