Event Finished Making a Name For Yourself

At that exact moment, Angelo was wondering why he'd never been trained on how to handle the media. That was exactly the sort of thing his training was probably supposed to include, only that part had ended up being a distant second to 'how not to die while fighting world-ending creatures' when it came to priority. Maybe if things had been normal and calm, they'd have gotten to it eventually, but Angelo would never know.

So he was going to have to do the whole media thing flying by the seat of his pants, counting on the fact that it was a school newspaper and a student reporter to cover for his mistakes.

Maybe he should have asked his dad for some advice.

On second thought, maybe not his dad. His dad was a lot of things, but newspaper-friendly was not one of them.

Angelo had settled in, dressed as he was in the uniform. That was one nice thing about uniforms: No worries about being presentable. It did show off his arm, which he supposed was a plus. It made him distinct. Helped him stand out. He wasn't just 'that one blond kid', he was 'that one blond kid with metal on his face and a literal robot arm'.

"Sure, I'm about as ready as I'll ever be."

At the very least they were starting with a question he'd actually prepared for. He had more or less no idea what questions were going to get lobbed at him, but he had been pretty sure that this was going to be one of them.

And it was a good thing he prepared, because truthfully he needed to sanitize the answer a bit. It wasn't really a lie, but it carefully omitted a pretty important factor.

"I had a lot going on at the time," Angelo said. "One of the big things is that I have a perfect memory." He tapped on his temple for emphasis. "That means facts and figures, but it also means emotions. I was having a hard time handling things, and while I didn't want to throw away what I'd done, I was also wary about being front and center for the student council. It's something I worked on after the fact, and now I'm in a better place, where I don't have to worry about being the figurehead and making someone else look bad. My life in general has gotten a lot better since then, and I'd like to think I've matured as well."

"That's... actually the reason I stopped. Someone I knew told me that you can't borrow other people's problems before you get your own in order. Only she said it a bit... different."

More specifically, she'd said ye definitely need to work on yerself before ye start pokin' about in other people's houses, only Angelo was not going to try and imitate her thick accent.

"The trick is not to prepare for one thing. The trick is to teach people how to use the skills they have to handle whatever comes at them. You don't teach a child to multiply seven by fifty. You teach them how to multiply any number, give them the fundamentals, and then let them apply them. There's things that come up more often than others, but there's also a lot of shared components that trouble has in common."

So far, the questions had all more or less been safe ground, and it seemed like Sprinkles wanted to focus on his actual platform, which was good. He'd put a lot of thought into it, so explaining it was significantly easier than having to decide what to say (or not say) about himself.

"It's something that would have to be worked out by the faculty, I'm afraid," he said. "But I think the smartest placement would be in powers classes. It's not uncommon for people with certain powers to get safety lessons before they start practicing. Someone who controls fire gets told what to do if they accidentally start one, for example. Even just one or two classes dedicated to what to do in case of emergencies would cut down a lot of risks, I think. It's high value with low time investment."

"Some people, unfortunately, aren't going to take advice. No matter what your cause is, there will always be people who turn away. For those who decline power training, I'd hope the school would encourage them to take at least a short class on what to do in case of an emergency, and I'd hope something similar would be offered to those who have already graduated. But for those who deny it? I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done. I'm not in the business of forcing people, and even if I did, I don't think it would help any."

Forcing people to sit through a class wasn't going to do anything productive.
